  1. Well goddamnit, they are even worse. A bunch of antisemitic poop fetishists. I bet we can draw a straight line from the supposed superiority of the “master race”, immigration into central and west Texas, and the current, misguided, sense of Texas exceptionalism.
  2. Immigration is sadly, a winning issue. Look at all those right wing parties in Europe that are winning on the back of that same argument.
  3. You are joking right? The entire world as we know it online has been subsidized by VCs and corporations. Now it's being "enshittified" by advertisers. The subsidy is over, they have what they need from you and don't need you to use their shitty free service anymore - oh wait you have no choice but to use it because they've killed everything else that wasn't subsidized as a point of emphasis to kill any competition and create a false moat/walled garden that users can't leave because none of their friends are outside and they've spent a lot of time cultivating those relationships. It's the most toxic play ever. Technology enabled labels to exercise more value and instead they decided to extract the difference in publishing and technology that was afforded to them. I wasn't arguing that at one time the distribution mechanism of labels and studios wasn't intrinsically valuable and mostly necessary. I'm saying they no longer serve their purpose and are mostly just IP trolls at this point. Protecting "their IP" on behalf of the artist who gets nothing to show for it. It is in fact okay if the artist is unharmed and still receives compensation for their work. Artists and entertainers are just that and if they get paid for those things that's fantastic and an incentive to continue. To say that it's the artists god given right to all potential revenue is ridiculous and a falsehood perpetuated by the industry itself. Put another way: if the record labels and studios could monetizes every ear that heard their IP every time they would and they would restrict those who didn't pay up. If there was a global sound wave mute button that didn't let sound move through the air without a toll they would attempt to charge it. I worked at Western Digital and ran strategy and innovation for the entire global consumer business for more than a year. I have talked to the major labels and studios about a way to safely allow for storage of their media with the users that purchased it and they aren't interested. They are only interested in absolute control and planned obsolescence or relicensing as soon as they think it's feasible by rugpulling.
  4. This is a winning issue for the Dems here but they're too incompetent to do anything about it. Biden should come out with a plan to double their salaries but then have real, actual, ethic reform. Also, end lifetime appointments. That's the worst idea ever and if you were to suggest it now, you'd be laughed out of the room.
  5. After the Marinara news dropped yesterday: "Narrator: we were indeed done on the coaching carousel for that day." Wondering if we get the leftovers today.
  6. This transcends race. I don't want my country to become that brown people place! These people are fucking dangerous, and their audience is growing. This is going to be a real problem if Trump wins again, and maybe even if he doesn't.
  7. I left in 1991 after graduating law school. I didn't affirmatively hate Austin, but I was definitely tired of it and wanted to go. So many people "playing at life" and refusing to get on with it, which included a fair number of pretty good friends.
  8. Had a sales manager that was on the Bama squad at the same time and he had a million great stories about Namath and Bear. He said reporters were messing with Joe about his academics and he countered with something like " I'm going to take Journalism classes because they have to be pretty easy" and was so freaking charismatic that they ate it up. Also told me Auburn was an acronym for Alabama Usually Beats Us Red Necks
  9. Bringing Loperfido up and then back down within 3 days tells me everything I need to know about this organization. It’s run by know-nothing clowns. If he wasn’t going to play, he should have been getting at-bats and first base reps in Sugar Land.
  10. Good agreement among the models that we will get a storm off the East Coast. Main concern will be the rain it drops in Florida before it scoots off:
  11. It’s more about having to make choices. People who pay for this have prioritized concerts and many are foregoing other entertainment products. I eat out far less than I used to, haven’t been to a pro sporting event since before Covid, and really only go to smaller local music acts and not the big shows at the arena. I still pay for a couple of family vacations a year which I prioritize over other things. It used to be that you could do most of what you want on a regular basis. The entertainment industry as a whole will adjust to lower overall demand across all entertainment products, but it’s not making things more affordable, it’s just letting things fail like movie theaters and local restaurants and bars which people are having to set aside to do other things, and I think that’s pretty enshitified.
  12. Unless there’s going to be a massive additional of kids into the portal in the next 6 days, it’s not looking great for OU to reload in the portal. It’s going to be a young roster For anyone curious, Stanford’s academic calendar shows that exams end this week (tomorrow). If Canady was going to jump in, it would be after she finishes exams.
  13. Not really in the habit of defending Apple, but we're gonna go ahead and ignore google's attempt to integrate Bard into Assistant and Search? I don't know anything about MSFT because except Swiftkey, my existence is MSFT-free. But even Swiftkey, a fucking keyboard app, tries to get me to use Bing AI search.
  14. Agreed, but to what end? Does anyone really think he (or Thomas for that matter) will recuse or be impeached? As said up thread, they’re going to give the finger to everyone and say, “do whatever, I’m untouchable” because they are.
  15. They wouldn't have to play a minute to be some of the most viewed female athletes on social media at the Olympics. The Vets should embrace them and be introduced to their already larger followings. Go make your money ladies.
  16. They're just hating because they want what we have. Dont try to over analyze it. They would do it if they could.
  17. …and that’s how we think about the WNBA stars, just a bunch of basketball junkies diligently working their craft and giving no thought to acclaim or recognition
  18. This is the biggest problem, not that it isn't all a problem. Right now, here in Atlanta, we are feeling the direct effect of a Trump appointed idiot (Louis De Joy) taking over the USPS. For now, it's a relatively minor problem for us, but it does has serious implications. For example, my wife gets medication (nothing life threatening or anything serious) thru the VA pharmacy, it's all massively delayed. We thank our lucky stars it's nothing serious, so we are lucky, but imagine if it were for serious stuff, which you have to know is happening to people. Now imagine more basic civil services fall into the hands of people that more or less have made it their mission in life to destroy them. These are the types of consequences that we are facing, destruction of things like the National Weather Service. Basically, a bunch of things like this we take for granted being destroyed. So while the big picture certainly needs to be human rights violations and the destruction of due process these people are after, their intentions are well beyond that.
  19. I can’t echo @Pescado_Rojo’s advice more. It’s spot on. I would add salt water fly fishing even for reds on the coast is a level up from trout fishing. I don’t recall your experience but it sounds like your boys are inexperienced. I took my sons to do it and it was boring to them. For teens that love fly fishing it won’t be boring but it’s like any skill based hobby going once isn’t going to produce much and if they aren’t prepared with basic casting techniques for salt water they will potentially sour quickly. but if you love fly fishing and love salt water fishing putting both together is a no brainer. So if they have no experience consider a quick lesson or two. I’m about to start with Austin Orr to level up my casting game and he comes very highly recommended. i had an in with JT from my old guide who also fished a chittum (holy shit what a nice boat) but decided I’d rather go with the guys I know. my trout and bass guide (centex rivers) is moving to reds out of port A and in the summer and fall and I’ll be following him. Hoping he can come with me next Friday to fish with Alvin. He’s a great dude and a former middle school social studies teacher and he LOVES to teach. I will say though, learning from the bow in August will be a major fucking beat down for all involved. I think there will be a learning curve with this guide so he may not be your guy but I can give a rec. he has been fishing the coast himself and with buddies for several years now so he’s learning the spots. So consider some wade fishing so everyone can cast and you can at least stay cool in the water. Lets you fish and the guide teach. Consider a 3/4 day too it will be so effing hot. allwater guides is a decent place to go but YMMV on who they put you with. My last trip was ok, I had to tell the guide how to approach one shoreline to make the cast easier. He also put us in muddy water at times that made no sense - water was deep, couldn’t see any tails or wakes, just a bit formulaic with little adaptation to the situation.
  20. From the Reuters article. Robert Mann, a former airline executive who now runs a consulting firm, said Elliott has given reasons for Southwest's poor stock performance without offering any answers. "Unless you have specific ideas in mind, it's just kind of throwing grenades," Mann said. "All you're doing is saying, you don't like what's going on.”
  21. Mechanical, not asshole related, but that is a long way to go to turn around and go all back. Talk about a long day(s) of travel for those folks.
  22. Bobby Some odds and ends from early workouts: - Jay’Vion Cole has impressed early in on-field work. - So has Andrew Mukuba. Despite the return of both Michael Taffe and Derek Williams at safety, it is simply going to be very hard to keep Mukuba out of the starting lineup come August. Mukuba is said to be extremely consistent at a fairly high level. - Of the younger OLs, Jaydon Chatman and Brandon Baker both returned from break ready to go. Their athleticism is among the best of all OLs. - Silas Bolden is both quick and fast. And a hard worker. What’s more, he adds some much-needed older leadership to the wide receiver room. - Cedric Baxter and Jaydon Blue continue to get the best out of one another. Very interesting competition. Tre Wisner amping up the energy in the group also helps. - Jermayne Lole and Bill Norton, along with Alfred Collins, may end up being the top three interior DLs on the 2024 squad. Lole has looked particularly good and Norton’s size was perhaps an undeappreciated factor prior to his arrival. - Derion Gullette and Ty’Anthony Smith are said to be standing out as young linebackers in the program outside of Anthony Hill.
  23. This could go here or the immigration thread. The local Austin Fox affiliate has been hammering immigration since the Biden admin order. They usually steer clear of hot button political topics, but someone up on high seems to have made them focus on it. “ITS NOT WORKING!!!1!!” Yeah, it’s been like a couple of weeks. Maybe it’s not a magic pill? Or maybe the republicans shouldn’t have blocked an actual bipartisan bill that maybe would have worked better? When it gets to the local media like this, people who don’t normally pay attention start to hear it. And it could very well affect their vote.
