  1. Texas will win the next two, mark it down. That was the best version of the ags and we played like dogshit. Mike will have them ready to go tomorrow.
  2. I’d go Czech if we don’t win it next inning and just tie it up!! she plays like she has a pair
  3. So were you against firing Tom Herman after going 9-3, with a Big 12 title appearance, and a NY6 bowl win? There have been a handful of coaches names posted in this thread that others, including myself, think can do better than Pierce. You can go back and find those list. But nah, we should keep status quo on a guy who has had 8 years to prove it. If he hasn't done it in 8, he's not going to do it.... Like I said we've plateaued in the portal/NIL era under Pierce and we most certainly will regress moving to the SEC with him.
  4. This change is going to be bad for Texas initially. Our advantage in NIL is not going to come anywhere close to making up for the shortfall we will face comparative to teams that specialize their funding in specific sports. Football will be fine and likely maintain its edge but our other sports are a bit fucked. Imagine how Vanderbilt will approach the revenue sharing. What are their options? Put 10M towards a football team with no players worth paying and no hopes of winning either way? Or do they go put 15M towards baseball and a build a super team filled with a dozen future first round picks? Even if they still do put a few million towards football, basketball and women's athletics to take care of the few high quality kids they have the lion share of that funding is going to the one sport in which they can actually compete. There are plenty of other baseball focused programs out there that can do the same. Even non power conference programs that only have 10-12M total to disperse can double the realistic budget Texas will have for baseball as we struggle to try and take care of all the major sports at once. Texas is not going to become one of the poors but we aren't going to be anywhere close to that top tier of baseball spender. Same deal with basketball. Texas might at most put how much towards basketball? 3-4 million tops? Yes we can supplement that with NIL and we have had tremendous support for the basketball program recently but it isn't going to make up the gap between ourselves and those who make that sport their top priority. I'm not even talking the blue bloods that kick our ass in recruiting and the portal anyway. A school like Indiana for example can easily justify and afford to put 10-12M a year of that 21M cap into just basketball. Even if we can double our direct school budget for the sport with NIL it isn't going to give us an edge any longer. Not when you have a couple dozen mid tier programs putting that same amount into the pot due to direct school funding and prioritization. In the long run Texas will have much healthier athletic program but in the short term you are going to have a bunch of new bidders suddenly able to compete at the same level as you for mercenary recruits and portal talent. Even football will not go unscathed. Lets say we put a few million into basketball, a bit into baseball and the obligatory million or two into women's athletics that optics will require. Sure we might still be left with ~15M going towards football but there are programs like OU that will probably put basically the entire 21M just into football. We literally watched them pillage their women's athletics NIL fund in order to get Williams secured a few weeks ago. Football will still in great financial shape for us but this change is going to cut into our edge we have over teams that just currently can not compete with us due to a lack of NIL funding. They will just sacrifice other sports to try to close the gap. TLDR Football at Texas will be fine but sports like basketball and baseball are absolutely fucked once this revenue sharing begins and a lot of teams just decide to focus on one specific sport other than football. In the long run I fully expect some stricter guidelines in place as to how that revenue gets distributed, to make sure most of it goes to football (who actually generates the damn revenue) but until that happens it is going to be absolutely wild watching certain teams be bold and just specialize into a single sport to try and buy titles while the window of opportunity exists.
  5. Other than kinda Ross Perot in 1992 and Wallace in 1968, we haven't seen a party faction break/realignment in this country for well over 150 years. It may be time, I dunno. But they sat in rooms for 20 years trying to figure out how to maintain power, improve turnout among younger voters, Latino voters, female voters. And they were on the brink. They knew it. You all think their morons, but there's still smart people in those rooms. And they knew that time and demography were not on their side. They pondered messaging and social media campaigns and their own version of "Rocking the Vote." And one man brought out 20-25mm people who were either non or irregular voters. And he assured them that they mattered, that they're time had come to have a seat at the table of power, and that he could get back what had been unjustly taken from them. There'll always be straight ticket, chamber of commerce, country club (insert political cliche here) GOP voters. And they'll stick this out and steer the party back on course or break away and do something different. But these party leaders say one thing in public, but they aren't the idiots you think they are. When 2032 elections come around after demography/census/redistricting occurs, they have to have the 20-25mm ultra-MAGA voters and their money. They cannot sustain the model without them and their resources. They will continue to pay fealty, sometimes fake & sometimes genuine, to the Trump God & Family. We are going to have a very strange next 8 years in this country as those people die off or lose interest. It is a drug kick most of you cannot possibly fathom. A charismatic man assured them their hatred and disconnect and lack of respect was all coming to an end if they'd just hand over a ballot and $50/month. For they believed he was the way, the life, and the truth. The rest of the party can run through machinations but that drug high for that bottom 20-25mm MAGA loyalists. You can't win shit if you stop slinging them their dope for the next 8 years.
  6. We are going to regret not paying Toppin. He very well might be the best player on our team if we signed him, and he would make us so much more dangerous. If we had him we could go big with him and Shedrick. Or we could go small and he could play center. He is a great rebounder, leading the MWC in both offensive and total rebounds. He also led the MWC in blocks. He actually had better stats IMO than his brother as a freshman. Obi then went on to win the Wooden and Naismith awards as a sophomore. Even if JT doesn't improve at all, he would be a crucial piece. If he makes a similar jump to his brother, we could be looking at a Final Four caliber team.
  7. I think you'll be surprised at what he asks for to stay in dallas. I think he's at the point in his career where he'd rather win a cup than get big paid. so he'll accept medium paid and a new grill upon retirement. or should we get lucky enough to go all the way he might say fuck it a head elsewhere for a paycheck, but I don't think so.
  8. No we don’t. A) it’s a cult and B) if they want a future in GOP politics, they have to bend the knee. The GOP has alienated female suburban voters, college educated voters and young female voters so much that there is no “going back.” Whoever wants to win the nomination in 2028 has to court the Trump bloc. Period.
  9. If we were a lock to host a regional I wouldn’t care but we’re an inconsistent team that needed to string together multiple wins for confidence. Blowing off going 0-2 like this is a team locked in for the “real tournament” is dumb af. This isn’t a good team and I’d be shocked if they even win a game in the regional. Pierce sucks dick and needs to go. Let’s hope they’ve already made that decision and are actively putting together the replacement list behind closed doors.
  10. Dude I don't give a goddamn what you think anything means. I want Texas Baseball to be about excellence and winning championships, not losing in humiliating fashion to shitty programs like Tech and Cincinnati. But hey, whatever, win a Regional and all is forgiven. But color me skeptical we are going to do much better than go 1-2. But we'll see.
  11. She's not endorsing him. She's not stumping for him. She's not fundraising for him. As a former U.N. Ambassador, she still is able to receive (albeit very limited) security intel. I am not defending her but when they tell you that there are some fringe MAGA extremist groups who will harm your two children and all you have to do is say, "Yeah, I guess I'd vote for Trump", then what's you say. This isn't complicated. This is going to happen more and more before/after the election. If he loses or gets imprisoned---we all celebrate but become targets of his acolytes. If he wins---he goes after his disloyal GOP'ers and other dissenters. If he dies---a substantial number of nutjobs will want to avenge his "deep-state murder" Haley may be a lot of things, but I think she's probably a protective mother who was shown something recently that changed her attitude. She's just saying the bare minimum to cover her ass down the road, "Yeah, I'll vote for Commander Dipshit, but nothing more." I didn't give much of a fuck about 2016. I certainly didn't see J6 coming. But no matter what happens in November, be it death, defeat, or decision by jury. A lot of Americans are going to get hurt or killed. I don't make the rules, but there's no way this is going to go peacefully.
  12. To build more on where ND sits heading into 2024 after the portal has closed, I'll say your thoughts and mine above are founded at least somewhat in reality. On offense: QB - Riley Leonard is a good get if he's healthy. They have a back-up named Angeli that they're high on. TB - They don't have a clear cut guy at TB that is viewed as a terrific replacement for Estime. They have a highly ranked room though. WR - Greathouse is a budding star. After him, they have guys like Beaux Collins that have made some plays in the past, even if somewhere else like Marshall and Clemson, but they're not scaring anyone here. TE - They lost the presumed starter to the portal (Tenn) and none of the candidates for the starting role are getting anyone excited. They don't have a prototypical ND TE type to just step in and kick ass. OT - Total rebuild after losing 2 high draft picks on either end. IOL - I think they return 1 starter, but this is a work in progress too. The writers covering ND feel like the OL overall is a key risk factor for this coming season. Not good. On defense: DT - They return both starting DTs and those guys are good. This is a strength on the team. DE - Looks like a shit show. They have a bunch of guys that ranked well and have yet to really produce. LB - They return a starter who was decent in Jack Kiser, but he was no doubt buoyed by having two other LBs playing next to him who are now in the NFL. There are highly ranked candidates to win the roles and Freeman's crew knows development on defense, so I assume this group will do well. CB - Likely their deepest position and returning a single starter. ND pundits do not appear concerned about this group. S - Watts returns and he'll be a preseason first team AA, I presume. They'll have someone new next to him and there is jagger risk. ---- In short, Notre Dame has 1 offensive starter out of 11 that might start at Texas in 2024 - Greathouse. It sounds arrogant if folks don't follow recruiting and the portal closely, but I don't know if there are many ND starters on offense that would be second team at Texas. The ND offense will be their soft spot in 2024 even with Denbrock and Leonard on campus. Defensively, ND is going to be very good and we would absolutely take their two tackles, Kiser, Watts, and Benjamin Morrison (CB), and likely some of the younger talented guys as well. The game is likely to be tight and low-scoring. I don't necessarily think Elko is some excellent gameday coach, but I feel like Freeman is not a good one, yet, at least. I could see ATM winning this game, which will piss me off. @notre dame joe and @BlueGreySky or any other domer that posts on this board in case they have an opinion or wish to fact check due to greater team familiarity.
  13. Meaningless probably isn't the best word to use and I know I've used it before. There is a lot of middle ground between meaningless and meaningful and the conference tournament falls somewhere in there. Winning is always better than losing and I don't think anyone here is saying to purposely throw games. But in a sport like baseball with so many moving parts/players, there is a fine line you have to walk at this point in the season. Conference tournaments are unpredictable, with varying motivation factors among teams. Some need to win it, some are indifferent, some are ready to go home. Some pitchers need to throw, some need rest, some need film for the portal opening next week. Some teams have guys who could use a few days of extra rest while some need to reps for players who may have recently entered the starting lineup. We had Jared Thomas and Peyton Powell fighting through pretty significant back injuries last year at this time, and the full week of rest did wonders for their regional/super-regional performance. Similar to the conference tournament in basketball, there is very little evidence that winning or losing foreshadows what is to come, assuming you already have a postseason bid locked up. If we can accept that while still hoping for wins, it makes this week less stressful as the buildup for the real tournament starts.
  14. Not sneaky at all if you really think about it. 2 teams that will likely be looking for a signature win to make the season a somewhat success, the other 2 will play us with religious fervor...as in fatwa. No other game will matter quite as much, and the fans and administration will make sure the coaches are aware. I really thought we'd be done with these type games going to the SEC, but it might actually be worse. BloU may be entering slightly under the radar but we have a huge target on our backs after last season.
  15. Going back to the odds discussion in this thread (or maybe the other NHL thread), Stars are favored -120 or -125 for Series odds based on 2 books I looked at. That's a bit surprising as I thought it would be around -140 or so (which is how much FL is favored over NYR). For comparison, we were favored -130 against Vegas and I think -135 against Colorado. Advanced stats love Edmonton (Moneypuck has them at 57% chance to advance) so maybe should have seen that coming. I mean even that game we won 5-0 back in early April, I'm pretty sure Moneypuck only had us at like 55% or something on the "deserve to win ometer" as I think they outshot us. I feel like we have a big depth advantage + a goalie advantage although the latter will definitely be tested. I think this extra rest is important for the D that were logging heavy minutes to get their legs back. Sure would be nice if we could start the series off winning game 1 for once.
  16. Which is why I’ve never given a shit about the conference tournament. I mean, it’s cool when we win but I’d rather go 1-2 and get our guys a couple days rest.
  17. I would agree trade him if we kept going towards the shitter....but we are turning this bitch around(and gonna win the division) so he can stay. I have never seen....and still don't... him taking an offer from us without testing the waters. So next season will be something I do love Marcelo Mayer though
  18. We should just go ahead and start saying "Nate Paul didn't kill himself" now, in case Trump somehow wins (he won't). https://www.kxan.com/news/texas-politics/donald-trump-says-hed-consider-ken-paxton-for-u-s-attorney-general/
  19. Wow - 67-66 game after 3 (and Denver shouldn't have 67 as we all know that was a bullshit call on KAT at the end). If Minny is going to win this, Ant is going to have to be the best player on the court here in the 4th.
  20. Hi UT Tennis Fan, I am going to keep this brief, as we need to get focused on the task at hand. Our team once again showed great Texas Fight yesterday, and picked up 4 singles wins in straight sets after dropping the doubles point to Wake Forest (full recap of our 4-2 win over Wake Forest in the semifinal). Our NCAA Championship match will be at 4 pm today in Stillwater (preview). If there is any chance at all for you to be here, our guys would sure appreciate it. This will be the last team match for what has been a very special team. Thanks for all your support throughout the season! Hook'em! Sincerely, Bruce Berque
  21. Yeah, you're wildly off base here. They actually implemented AI fight tracking in this fight. System works really well. Can tell the difference between a jab and a power shot. It can tell if a punch gets blocked. It's, quite frankly, amazing. Has Usyk winning by much wider than what we got on the scorecards. https://www.reddit.com/gallery/1cvak65 If you just want to go by CompuBox numbers, well, Usyk won there, too. https://www.boxingscene.com/compubox-stats-oleksandr-usyk-tyson-fury--183645 Plus, one guy was past queer street into Willy Wonka's Wonderland at one point and was only saved by the ref getting in the aggressor's way and then the round ending after getting a standing 8 count. That guy wasn't Usyk. First three rounds were close, Fury took the next three, and then Usyk (as he always does) took the back half of the fight while also knocking Fury silly. Definitely deserved the win.
  22. They have multiple tables. Only 1 was open? I walked right up to a $10 min table around midnight last Friday. My favorite near strip place to gamble. Makes me realize I never came back and did a trip report. Here we go: Stayed at Waldorf which I remain a big fan of. Quiet and nice center strip location. Your wife will like it. Great for a work trip. Would not recommend for a guys trip. Never a wait to check in which is nice. Top floor skybar under renovation so only a small area open for now but still a good place for a pre-dinner drink. Super chill (no-party) pool that we went to for a bit Friday afternoon after landing. Fri Dinner: Catch @ Aria. My 2nd time but had been several years. Was actually really impressed (much moreso than first trip for a work dinner). Everything we had was great except for branching out and trying a mojito pre-dinner drink which was awful. Server saw our reaction and immediately took them and offered our choice. Good service. J. Timberlake Concert: Tons of fun. His pre-concert DJ may have been just as good. Nothing but 90's and 2000's jams he knew his audience. T Mobile is a great venue for anything. Ellis Island: Great as always. Grinded on a craps table for a couple of hours and think I cashed out +$60. That's a win. Crack Shack: Ok, this is a place I found on my last work trip. Convinced my wife to ditch the fancy brunch we had scheduled and hit it right next door for chicken sandwiches and champagne. Really good shit. Circa: So we went here for Mavs game 3 v. OKC (12:30 local start). I bet $500 on the Mavs and got a $450 minimum spend daybed. We know how that played out so daybed and lots of drinks were effectively free. We did NOT hit our minimum (I did my part, wife couldn't hang) but great afternoon. Stadium Swim is phenomenal as is the sports book in the casino. After leaving we walked down the Freemont St. experience and I lost $100 or so at blackjack in some casino. I don't think I have been downtown in 15+ years but was very impressed with what they have done. I think we are all in on staying at Circa next trip and just doing 1 night trip to the strip. I like (but don't love) to gamble and tons of "Eliis Island" equivalents downtown. The steakhouse at Circa is supposed to be great as well for a good meal. Dinner: Somehow made it to Pieros. It was solid as always. Kind of a blur. I got my Veal Parm and we got a pasta dish and salad and split it all and left a lot of food on the table. Stars game started so had to leave. Beer Park: Still my favorite (only place I know not a sportsbook?) to watch a big game. Great bar setup. Bellagio fountains going. Stars win. All fantastic. On way back I drag my wife through Planet Hollywood and find a craps table. Tread water a couple of rolls then guy at end of table has a massive roll. He finally crapped out when I had over $500 still on the table but I took $650 off before that. Probably should have seen how far the Mavs, Stars, Craps heater could take me but was done at that point so tipped dealers, cashed out and called it a trip. Great time as always. Love that city.
  23. Wish we would have taken the doubles point because it doesn't look like WF has any shot of winning 4 singles matches. 3 is in play but that's still going to be difficult it looks like.
  24. We still going to win. Av’s goal minder has been playing out of his mind back half of 3rd and OT
