Jaden Alexis is now a composite 4* and Wright went up some as well.

Watched Sorrell's film, he looks pretty damn good on tape to me so what's the deal with his ranking?  Did he test bad at a camp?  Sites haven't watched Sr film yet?  Am I crazy to think he should be a 4* (just on tape)?

artificially depressed ranking due to baby fat face, imo

After watching Keithron Lee's Senior film I get why the staff has him higher on the board. Kid has skills. Hope we can close it out with him.

He also quit on his hs team. We scrimmaged them this year and he did not stand out at all

He's 6-3 250 so everyone is ranking him as a SDE. He's going to put on weight and play DT. It's similar to Malcolm Roach, but hopefully we aren't going to play Sorrell at ILB.

Can’t believe it’s signing day tomorrow and I couldn’t give a single fuck

Yep, hard to believe, but that's where I am too...have spent way more time monitoring a stupid-ass thread about McRibs, HSB, night/day crews, etc.

Pretty sad when recruiting is no longer fun.

Yeah, Herman has completely killed NSD, even Charlie didn't do that.

Hell, with Charlie, signing day was usually pretty darn fun.  It was the other 364 days a year that had me questioning my sanity.  But at least we had that 1 day a year.

This year, it feels like our older brother just told us that Santa is a fraud and we don't even have that joy anymore.

Joseph Cook: Sanders, Brooks named Mr. Texas Football finalists

Quote

Texas commits Ja’Tavion Sanders and Jonathon Brooks were named finalists for the Mr. Texas Football High School Player of the Year award, presented by Dave Campbell’s Texas Football. Sanders, a five-star defensive end/tight end prospect from Ryan High School in Denton, committed to Texas in September of 2019. He accumulated 658 receiving yards and 13 total touchdowns this season, while also adding 4.0 sacks on defense per MaxPreps. The Raiders are slated to take on College Station in the area round of the UIL 5A Division I playoffs this weekend.

Brooks, a three-star running back from Hallettsville, committed to Texas on May 15. Brooks’ Brahmas will play Tuscola Jim Ned this Thursday in the UIL 3A Division I state finals. Connor Weigman, a Texas offer in the 2022 class, was also named a finalist. Mr. Texas Football annually recognizes the most outstanding high school football player in the state of Texas. Fans can cast their vote as to who should be named Mr. Texas Football at www.texasfootball.com. The winner of the 2020 Mr. Texas Football Award will be announced prior to the 2020 Mercari Texas Bowl and awarded to the recipient before the game on December 31 at NRG Stadium in Houston.

(Gerry Hamilton) IT Recruiting Matters: Ranking the 2021 class

Quote

The class of 2021 will begin putting pen to letters of intent Wednesday. While there are several ways to define and break down a class, quite possibly the best way is to take a look at where prospect in a class could ascend to over time. Today, the class is broken down by potential to be an All-American, All-Conference, Multi-year starter and contributor/starter.

All-American:
Ja’Tavion Sanders, TE/DE, Denton Ryan
Placed Sanders in the All-American category as a tight end should that be where he ends up long term. His ball skills, feet, ability after the catch, hands and willingness to be physical places him in an elite category as a TE. He can be Brevin Jordan as a TE. If Sanders plays DE long term, he has a similar ceiling, but players have to be all in to be elite defenders and especially at a premium position.

All-Conference:
Byron Murphy, DT, DeSoto
Murphy was a huge flip from Baylor. Murphy brings former RB/LB foot quickness and bend to the defensive tackle position. He has heavy hands, plays with very good leverage for a young player and displays the motor and mentality that very good defensive tackles possess. If Murphy can navigate not having ideal arm length at the next level, he will be very successful.

Isaac Pearson, P, ProKick Australia
Word out of ProKick is the staff is very high on Pearson. These guys have tremendous reputations, and we will give them their due here.

Multi-year starter:
Jordon Thomas, DE/T, Port Arthur Memorial
Thomas has the motor to be a very good player. The major question will be how soon does Thomas move inside? He’s not going to be a pass rusher at DE, but he can be a quality DT as a disruptor in the run game with pass rush ability. Will add 30 pounds in time.

Terrence Cooks, OLB, Shadow Creek
If the 6-foot-2, 210-pounder is put in a position to be a pass rusher as well as use his athletic ability in space, Cooks will be a very good player in Austin and an All-Conference level performer. He has a natural and instinctive pass rush ability as a linebacker, and will do so at 6-foot-2 and 230-235 pounds down the line.

Morice Blackwell, LB, Arlington Martin
If someone could guarantee me that Blackwell can add 35-40 pounds and retain his quickness and agility, I would predict All-Conference level LB. He has the physicality, reactive quickness and mentality to be a very good player. He will impact winning at the next level.

Jaden Alexis, WR, Monarch (FL)
Dudes that roll out of bed and run a 4.5 and are student body president are going to be successful. Add in the hyper competitive qualities, body control, COD and toughness, and Texas has something here in a WR that could play in the slot or outside.

Hayden Conner, OG/T, Katy Taylor
What should Texas fans really like about Conner? It’s his willingness to play wherever Texas needs him. That provides an OL with an 80-inch wing span, 4.7 shuttle, big hands and frame multiple chances to have success along an offensive line.

Jonathan Brooks, RB, Hallettsville
Similar to Roschon Johnson, Brooks will be considered a "starter" as a RB due to multiple guys sharing the load and snaps. Brooks has terrific feet in the hole, vision and has the jump cut and skip cut to work to the second level with fluidity. Has become a more physical runner as a senior with improved feel for when to drop pads and maximize through contact.. When looking at the next level, the continued development in pad level and ball security will be key. He doesn't possess home run hitting long speed, so he has to maximize other areas of his skill set.

Contributor/starter:
Charles Wright, QB, Austin High
Should Wright prove to have patience, he could work his way into a starter's role down the line. The arm talent, quick release, feet and mental capacity are there to develop into a quality signal caller in the Big 12. His time at Texas will boil down to patience with Hudson Card still a freshman in 2021.

Casey Cain, WR, Warren Easton (LA)
Cain is a bit of a wildcard in the 2021 class. He was not heavily recruited by Power 5 schools, but his raw tools suggest there is enough upside to develop into something. His athletic ability shows up on the hardwood as much or more than the football field at this point.

Juan Davis, TE/ATH, Everman
Davis brings really good feet and great hands. Tougher to project a future position for him, but he can be a very good TE in time. Remember this kid has an elite pair of mitts.

Gunnar Helm, TE, Cherry Creek (CO)
Like Helm’s height at nearly 6-foot-5, with long arms and soft hands. Adding 30 pounds to his frame while retaining current agility and athletic ability will be key here, along with willingness to play in-line to be a complete player.

Max Merril, OG/T, Strake Jesuit
If there is a prospect that could surprise in the class, it’s Merril. Big fan of the 80-inch wing span, hand size and the fact that he comes from very successful parents. Having a successful mom that is a CEO in the business world is something to lock away in terms of being brought up in a competitive arena. What position he settles at is what I’m monitoring initially.

Derrick Harris Jr., OLB, New Caney
Harris has the physicality, length and short area quickness one looks for as an EDGE player. Hip flexibility and adding 20 pounds while retaining reactive quickness will be key. Like the family structure that has led him to where he is at this point.

J.D. Coffey, S, Kennedale
Coffey has had a stellar high school career and will impact winning at Texas, He’s not quite as athletic as the safeties Texas has recruited in prior classes, but his playing speed is good enough to be successful. Patience will be key here for Coffey.

Jamier Johnson, CB, John Muir (CA)
Like the foot quickness and break on the ball. Johnson will have to add strength while maintaining quickness and agility. Because he doesn’t possess straight-line speed that elite CBs have, he has to maximize in every other facet.

Ishmael Ibraheem, CB, Dallas Kimball
Has the height, arm length, reactive quickness and willingness to be physical in run support to be an All-Conference level player. Until his recent off the field issue is resolved, IT will be extremely conservative with his projection.

If this class ends up having 10 draft picks it will be funny with how much crying has been done by some.

I trust football coaches more than 247 and Rivals with evaluation.  Those rankings are worthless until proven to be true on the football field. Goes either way. With 5 star Sanders or 3 star Casey Gain

the odds of 10 players actually being drafted in any class are pretty damn small. they are especially small in this class compared to prior years based on the current composition.

your second sentence is the shit that TCU and Baylor fans say. breaking news - stars do matter. development matters as well, but acting like the ratings services are shitty in general are dumb.

Texas has shit the bed with evaluations so many times over the last 10 years that they do not deserve the benefit of the doubt. Hell, members of Tom Herman's staff have shit the bed a ton on evaluations over the last few years.

also, your mentioning of Rivals anywhere near 247 shows that you 1) have been away from recruiting for 10? years 2) are a troll or 3) are new to recruiting and somehow think Rivals is good.

let me be very, very clear - Rivals is shit and has been for a long time. It isn't 2000 anymore, use the 247 composite and you are going to be in pretty good shape.

---

people are crying about the class because Texas is in play for 2 of the top 10 recruits in the State (LJ and J'Tavion), they missed out on targets at top positions (QB, DE, CB, OT), they have missed out on legacies that should have been slam dunks (The Brocks), they have missed out on dynamic players (Bowman), ended up losing the commitment of players who were huge in recruiting for the school (#PraiseMilroe), slow played players at the QB position so badly that in a class that includes 9 players in the top 40 they never really had a chance at any of them and ended up getting Charles Wright who is outside the top 30 Pro Style QBs in the country. Texas skullfucked QB recruiting a million ways after losing Milroe - Texas lost him on August 17th, lost Ewers on October 28th and their recovery was to offer exactly one person (Wright) since then. Texas has 6 total offers to QBs in the '21 class - they wanted Nussmeier (overall #86 in composite lol) and Sawyer Robertson (#135) as 2nd QBs behind Milroe. Clearly that didn't happen. They offered Jake Garcia at some point and Preston Stone.

Texas missed out on basically every top In State offensive target - the top 8 players int he class are defensive. They have missed out on literally ever OT target and ended up with a guy ranked #162 in the composite in Texas whose second best offer is probably Indiana? Vandy? Arizona State?

WR recruiting wise, thank God for Jaden Alexis - otherwise they would really be in trouble. They landed Casey Cain and they have lost basically every other in state target (Hal Presley, JJ Henry, Theodore Knox) to programs such as Baylor, Mississippi State, Auburn with Gus and TCU yet again.

when it comes to TE, the guys that were committed and now aren't are ending up at Auburn (King) and USC (Lake McRee) - plus they slow played Arroyo who is going to Miami.

OT is a hilarious story in and of itself - missed on The Brocks, Byrd, misplayed their inherent in with Bram Walden and Jonah Miller (OG), couldn't land Foster, waited until too late to offer Jack Leyrer, missed on Jacoby Jackson, had Ryan Lengyel pick Baylor over Texas, made the right call on Fatheree and are going to end up with Max Merrill.  They fucked around and waited to offer Remington Strickland and missed him, they then "lost" (not necessarily a bad thing) Myslinski which noone is sad about.

On defense they lost out on Andrew Mukuba and didn't ever really recover with any of the other dudes offered or identified.

Texas is landing the lowest composite rated QB, WR and TE they have offered. They are getting the 2nd lowest OT offered (Merril is #162 in Texas vs Lengyel at #167),

People are pissed because targets ended up picking places such as Memphis (Andrew Jones), Boston College (Jalon Williams), Baylor (Lemear, Lengyel), AZ State (Jaydon Williams), Baylor (Hal Pressley, who is now at Auburn), couldn't flip a WR from Kentucky of all places (Crowdus), etc

To act like people are bitching about this for no reason is dumb. People are pissed because Texas is wasting any built in positives the program could possibly have and they are doing it in highly visible ways at highly visible positions and haven't really learned from their mistakes over the last 3 years.

Even if you go out and say they have reasons to not go after some players in the State top 20 (Adeleye,  Byrd, Fatheree, Preston Stone, Burris) they have flat out lost H2H battles to rivals for the #1 (Tommy Brock), #2 (Jackson), #5 (Turner), #7 (Bowman), #10 (Earle), #12 (Foster), #13/14 (Milroe/Nussmeier), #19 (Landon Jackson) players in the state and haven't really even had one of them drag things out to the end.

Of the uncommitted players in the Top 40 in the State, Texas is only really in it for LJ Johnson. They aren't landing Byrd or Foster or Wheaton.

---

This is the worst Texas class in years and the coaching staff has made it worse across the board by their bad planning, slow playing and bad evaluations.

Personally, I am still fucking terrified that Ja'Tavion Sanders is going to flip on NSD1 or wait to sign until NSD2. If he leaves this means that Texas top player in the class is going to be the #25 player in the State.

Even if Texas gets Sanders and LJ Johnson they are going to have 2 of the Top 10, and 3 of the top 25 players by composite in the State.

That isn't going to cut it.

Oh yeah, and recruiting for 2022 is fucked with a capital F if Tom Herman stays. There is zero reason to believe that the team will overall be better than they were this year with the best DL (Ossai), QB (Sam) and OL (Cosmi) they have had in years. Add in that they are losing their starting QB, the 2 best OL on the team, the best defensive player and DE, starters along the OL, TE, multiple starts from the safety position, etc and the on field results aren't going to change minds.

late edit: oh yeah, and you add in free transfer and a coach who clearly isn't beloved by the team and you are in a situation where it is entirely possible the only scholarship QBs on the roster in the fall are Hudson Card and True Freshman Charles Wright. Because if Card wins the starting role, I don't see any reason for Casey Thompson to stay.

That means you are 1 snap away from True Freshman Charles Wright taking meaningful snaps.

The number of potential transfers out from players who have taken snaps in 2020 should terrify you. Free transfer away from a program who has underutilized you for years will absolutely be appealing to guys like Jake Smith, Marcus Washington, Jared Wiley and Brayden Liebrock. Add in guys like Cook and Thompson, who have already hit the portal once before and it gets comical.

Seriously, if you are Wiley or Liebrock and Cade fucking Brewer got the majority of snaps at TE this year why do you have faith in the staff to properly utilize you? Same for Jake Smith - if they are going to play Kai Money over you...that has to bring up a ton of questions.

That kid was NEVER looking to come here

you know maybe I am misremembering him having any interest, i do remember some 995ers saying that he should be offered but thanks for the info. my bad!

writing that book just made me super depressed.

getting the lowest offered QB, WR, TE, RB, OT offered bums me out. missing out on all those dudes when there is no reason they should have bums me out.

everything about recruiting for 2021 bums me out and even thinking about the bloodbath that is 2022 (compared to what it could have been - same as '21) is disappointing to the max.

HOLY SHIT...  Just reported that TOM HERMAN recently called Ray Tanner at South Carolina and asked to be hired for the Gamecock's job...

South Carolina said No

Gene Sapakoff just reported this on Paul Finebaum Show

(Not good that this came out right before National Signing Day)

Which forum did you originally post this in?

Ray Tanner is a baseball guy (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ray_Tanner) but he knows better than to go after Turtle Tom.

Maybe Tom can go to Arizona so he can create the Herm rivalry.

Just a note that you usually end up w the lowest ranked offer at each position as you work down your list until a guy commits.

From South Carolina website:  "University of South Carolina Athletics Director Ray Tanner is in his ninth year guiding the Gamecocks’ athletics programs. After a long and highly successful career as Carolina’s baseball coach, Tanner officially began his new duties on Aug. 2, 2012.   On April 29, 2019, Tanner was awarded a contract extension by the USC Board of Trustees, keeping him in the athletics director chair until 2024."
