I know it’s popular with some of yall to shit on lightsabers and the Force etc, but don’t forget the dozens and dozens of episodes of Rebels and Clone Wars. It *can* be done well.

Animated and live action storytelling are very different.

LIghtsabers and the Force are awesome. If Andor can teach anything to future SW show writers/creators, it's that restraint is the best strategy. Need better stories/scripts/developed characters that have an earned lightsaber/Force scene, instead of the bukkake that's been previously done to mask the laziness of bad writing.

Andor, Skeleton Crew and Mando season 1 are the best live action SW shows so far.  All 3 had no or very minimal use of lightsabers/the force.

Skeleton Crew making it very "mysterious" to a bunch of kids was good writing too

But how does that put her in charge? It gives her some cred, but doesn't make a leader out of her.

Anyway, it's a minor thing in the grand scheme of things. It's not "Somehow Palpatine Returned" levels of bullshittery, or ... whatever that was on The Acolyte where every character's motivation was "Because the plot required them to make this choice."

It may look that way to the informed audience, but from her perspective she's been fighting the Empire since she was a kid. Mother killed, father taken, raised by Saw, she was in Empire labor prison, father killed in R1. She was the only one with the balls to stand up to the Rebel Alliance leadership about 10 minutes before and inspired that crew to go on the rogue mission. So she is kind of the leader of the mission.

Olds shitting on jedi and lightsabers are like adults shitting on Santa Claus. Have they forgotten what first drew them in or what kids find entertaining? The Mando S2 episodes with Ahsoka and Luke were awesome. Cassian could've benefitted from some help from a jedi or two along the way if it was available. BOBF was poorly constructed but didn't have jedi/lightsaber action to blame. Acolyte was terrible because the writer was stupid and agenda driven. I'm eager to see how Ahoska S2 and Mando movie play out with Thrawn returning with resurrected zombies and *gasp* force sensitive characters.

Erskine is either dead or in prison right???

Erskin was still with Mon Mothma in Rebels episodes, so he's alive unless he died in some battle we haven't seen yet.

We don’t *need* to know the fate of every character we ever see on screen

I don't think every Star Wars series or movie going forward needs to be ordinary people like Andor. Everything would then pale in comparison. I would like if the dialogue and screenplays could be Andor-like in what comes next. The issue with the Jedis and lightsabers is I don't see how they can make it any better going forward. The sequels kind of bore that out. It sadly will all be sort of a derivative of the OT. I like the idea of Mangold's movie being set at the origin of the Jedi. You can at least try new things. Or do a Knights of the Old Republic thing. I don't have high hopes for Rey's movie and it's pretty telling that it seems stuck in the mud. The Starfighter movie with Ryan Gosling might be decent because he could make it fun and he won't be playing a Jedi. If it's a Star Wars version of Drive, I'm in.

I say all this and I bet when the Mando and Grogu trailer comes out, we're all going to be excited. I think for the most part, people here enjoyed Ahsoka but the writing and motivations of people like Sabine were not as good. Filoni does have some flaws. Writing dialogue is one of them.

When koopa comes back after 8, it's going to be great.

The Jedi need to be treated like they were described in ANH…an obscure religious cult that was more a legend than reality for most people. Making them knights of the round table helping run the galaxy bullshit was a mistake IMO.

The googles say that lightsaber screen time combined for ANH, ESB, and ROTJ is around 12 minutes.

The world building is what drew most of us in IMO.

and you should be ashamed for saying it

Its not going to happen and it shouldn't happen, but I can imagine the greatness of it.

Star Wars was my first movie at the theater when was seven years old - the reason I'll never refer to it as Episode IV - A New Hope.  I'll always love it.

Watching R1 now, and the Eadu scene is unbelievable.

Unbelievable in the sense that Cassian didn't shot Galen Erso as soon as he was in his crosshairs. Prequel Cassian had not problem killing anyone who got in his way.

For me it showed the impact Jyn has on Cassian. He’s at a crossroad with the orders from Yavin to kill Galen and immediately afterwards where Jyn reveals her father’s hidden weakness that he designed on Death Star. There’s also the convo with Jyn and Bodhi that Cassian overheard. It’s a matter of does he blindly follow the orders from Yavin or trust Jyn and the others that believe her as well. I think he was fighting the urge to not take the shot and follow his gut instincts, which aligned more with Jyn.

From just a strategic standpoint, when Cassian has Galen in the crosshairs, why should he kill him? Right now, Jyn just said that he knows the only known weakness of a planet killer and exactly how to destroy it. Maybe instead of killing the guy, Cassian and his team should find a way to extract him from Eadu first, then if it doesn’t work move on to Scarif.

And considering how much they didn’t trust him, I don’t blame him

The lightsaber saturation thing was always going to be a problem once the prequels came on the scene.

It is the weapon of the Jedi, not as clumsy or random as a blaster. An elegant weapon, for a more civilized age.

So in the OT when you got 1 Jedi (or fledgling jedi) and 1 Sith in every movie….not so much lightsaber.

When you go back in time to a bunch of jedi….lightsabergasm.

It’s a good case study in what another movie hero once said.

As kids We all wanted a lightsaber for Christmas/Birthday/Halloween. If you were lucky enough, you got the Vader mask and lightsaber combo. While the world building was cool, the lightsaber was a pretty big deal.

Can I be that guy who says he wasn't just enamoured with the lightsabering in some of the prequels? The Duel of the Fates in Phantom Menace was great to excellent. The Anakin/Obi Wan vs. Doku in AOTC was good. Then it became Yoda doing backflips which is less enjoyable over time. The Anakin Obi Wan fight in Revenge was just twirly nonsense and not the emotional battle it felt like it could've been. It should've been more like Duel of the Fates and it was more each of them twirling their lightsabers at each other. I realize I am in the vast minority on that one.

I guess to me, I like Jedis being like samurais befitting the "elegant weapon" label of lightsabers.

I guess. I was perfectly happy with my AT-AT, X-wing, speeder, Ewok Village, and action figures that I kept in that badass Darth Vader carrying case.

Dumb orders by Draven. He should've said "extract him if possible for questioning (and we can execute him later if we choose), if not possible then kill him."

But then you don’t get the argument that now has the more meaningful “you’re not the only one who lost everything” line.

Have him die during the extraction.

anyway, my strategic point is moot at the end of the day because movies are based off of emotion. In the end the scene works.

Mando S2 wasn't bad. Bill Burr, in particular, did a great job. S3 sucked balls.
