That's funny, I've always thought the "Tell me about ...." threads were about Texas fans shit talking specifically about the subject school and not a thread on the Texas board for the fans of that sub

  • Keep ‘em coming - the Yormark and McGuire memes and vids - not only are they well deserved, most of them are hilarious. 🤣   Now that the Tech/UT series is officially over - or at least pause

I cannot figure out how he was not fired last off-season as he is the epitome of a JAG. I would take Utah’s new head coach, with all of one win under his belt after their bowl game, before McGuire. Heck I’ll take three toes in Boulder before him. Tech employing him is good for the small cadre of teams trying to have good football programs in the Big XII.

He’s extremely personable and likable. All of their money guys loved him… until today.

Tech playing in the Big 12 title game was the very public standard they put out there before the season. Mission accomplished. He’ll get another year.

Admittedly, I said before the season if Tech PLAYED in the Big XII CCG, it would meet my minimum expectation for the season.

That shit today fucked a generational defense, the likes of which has never called Lubbock home.

That stuff is great if you win. When your offense does just about what it was capable of today and leaves that ridiculously good defense high and dry it’ll leave a mark. I believe Campbell said publicly that they found their coach in McGuire. Campbell might should realize that coach he loves is a clown with zero ability to coach at this level. He’s Mack Brown with no VY and even less football acumen. If Tech is serious about winning fire him after next year and see who you can money whip to come to Lubbock.

Joey, his personality, how he talks, carries himself, etc... is what too many people think they want in a HC, think he is the persona of a successful coach and that shit worked at Cedar Hill High School when he had more talent than most people.

What they don't want is Cignetti, or Brian Dabol or Mike McDonald, or even Saban until he started to win.

What they miss is bullshit only goes so far at this level.

After all your posturing, all your little speeches, you're nothing but a common Texas Tech.

The thing for Tech is what do you do now? You spent however much to not score any points in your playoff game. Do you now spend more millions for a decent QB? I guess Campbell can keep feeding his bullshit to people about he wants everything fair for everyone while he skirts the rules to spend a fuckton to only win the Big 12.

From what I saw, they need a lot more than just a QB to unfuck that offense.

I think your general Tech fan on the street associates their only Big XII championship and playoff berth in their history with McGuire. Therefore, he hung the moon. They are pleased as punch with him.

Lucky for them, the people in charge aren't aggy-level dumb, otherwise he would have a lifetime contract already.

I'm not sure Rice would even make it to the Texas high school playoffs.

What rules were skirted? Show your work.

and that ain't to defend Campbell, but this bullshit narrative has been thrown about all season, mostly by the "haves."

Nope, we're building robots for competition; it's all part of our plan to dominate the world. Don't worry about it

On the bright side, IU kicking the shit out of Bama will take most of the attention away from Tech being shut out.

Nah, not really. No one really thought Bama should be there and OU was a known fraud. Tech only had one stumble in a mediocre Big 12. This was an embarrassment against a team they were built to beat. Indiana may win the whole thing. I doubt many think Oregon will.

I would not really dispute that view. I guess I just can’t understand why he was afforded the opportunity to be the head coach this year when he showed he is in over his head before the big money rolled in. To me it just means another wasted season next year if he is at the helm. I want the Big XII rep to have a good showing the playoffs and have an offense that is competent. Such a waste of an incredible defensive unit. That defense paired with an offense with explosive talent and good QB play wins a title in my opinion.

I haven’t followed most of this real closely so I am not sure what he’s inferring. What are the actual rules on NIL money? What is Campbell allegedly doing that’s not above board? I feel like the only rule is there are none, but I also do not delve too deeply into the money aspect of things.

Look you line them up against Carthage and you’re looking at a nice 4A DII state runner-up finish for the Owls.

No. The Big 12 is highly winnable for Tech every year now that Texas and OU are gone. Your main competition is BYU and Utah. Maybe TCU but that era seems to be slipping away for them.

Didn't Tech spend 50 million all told on their roster? Isn't that well above what everyone else did? Hey, hats off it Campbell did that but I hope 50 million for a Big 12 title and 0 points in the playoff was worth it. There's always next year.

I think anyone who saw Tech this year knew their offense was a big issue for them. They were not built on that side of the ball to beat any of the teams in the SEC or BIG 10. They desperately needed an offense that could at least put up something. Asking their defense to do it all for them is a bit much.

Offense should never be an issue for Texas Tech or Joey Maguire. That's like Alabama not having a good running back. Your identity was forged for decades on being a great offensive team. I joke around about the loss today because it's fun to poke the slorch bear but it's ridiculous that Tech could only have that shitty guy as their QB. Oregon is not a team that should manhandle Tech on offense.

I think it’ll be an issue until they hire a head coach that understands that side of the ball. McGuire isn’t that. All those relationships with HS coaches matter far less now. It’s what are you paying to get players to Lubbock? They need an actual college head coach to take the next step.

McGuire's whole deal was offensive genius(high school level of course).

Complete wild ass delusion, but Morton played like he was there to throw the game……most everyone else seemed at least average. Just sayin’

Pretty sure Brian Fantana, Slorch, and I have all voiced concerns about Morton this season. Slorch was pretty adamant, going back to late September, that Tech wasn’t going anywhere with him at QB. I mentioned a couple of weeks ago that the O-line was pretty suspect as well. On top of that, the playcalling was pretty bland all season for a Tech team. I did like how they ran the ball much better than before, but that part of the offense certainly fell apart today.

So, yeah, the offense was underwhelming despite the point differentials in all their wins, which we can safely now say was due to the stellar defense keeping everyone else out of the endzone. Oh, and Tech was terrible in the red zone this year. Weird problem for a Tech team to have, and they've got their work cut out for them during the offseason to make some changes on that side.

Pretty much. A competent QB makes this game completely different. It's a fixable problem.

CFP in its current format is pretty shitty

  • Teams with byes tend to lose - are those really the best teams?

  • ITT, Tulane, JMU were in the playoffs! LOL

  • Conference champions with automatic bids is a joke when there are only 12 spots

  • Weakass schedules are rewarded

It's a cheap attempt to besmirch Campbell, who has had his missteps, leadership-wise; but if he was breaking/ avoiding rules on NIL; rest assured, the football establishment would be up his ass about it.

McGuire only coached in college for 5 years for 1 team before getting the TT job. That lack of experience shows when it comes to assembling a quality staff and preparing a team for a big game like this. In comparison, someone like Pete Golding was an assistant/coordinator for over 10 years before getting this Ole Miss job. He learned under Saban and Kiffin. McGuire learned from Matt Rhule...a coach who sucks against ranked teams. McGuire lacks overall college football experience and it doesn't help when he hires equally inexperienced OCs like Kittley and Leftwich.

Okay makes sense. I really have spent zero time understanding NIL and whatnot. In my rudimentary understanding I thought schools have a cap on what they can spend, but outside money is however much they want to spend. I am sure I am probably way off on the specifics. If Campbell wants to spend money on the school he graduated from go for it. Spend as much as you legally can and pay the players in whatever sport you see fit. There are issues I know I think differently on than Campbell, but sports-wise spend on your school if that is what you want to do.

Sand Aggy has never been truer. Spend it and win jack shit. But at $9.99 a gallon he too can be T Boone Pickens.

Not sure why people thought Tech would do anything in the playoff. They played the easiest schedule (beat no one) of all the “P4” cfp teams

They were almost G5.
