Honestly, Arkansas has no one to blame but themselves, they have the Walmart fortune and the JJ fortune to recruit but haven’t. $20M from those two families combined is nothing and would buy a helluva roster. The school and area are top notch. Losers gonna lose I guess. But if Phil knight can make Oregon, arky can gets is billionaires to step up. This is entirely on them.

The Waltons are completely disinterested in sports and the Tysons care about track and (now) football.  Jerry has always chipped in for coach buyouts but seems disengaged from the NIL game.  Not sure why.

Their problem to solve but it’s on them, they have the resources.

I was half way listening today but they mentioned something about Petrino can’t be hired as a HC because of the motorcycle incident? No idea no care but heard something of the sorts.

Tysons are all in on the basketballs.  John Tyson single-handedly brought in Calipari and gave him a shit ton of money to buy a roster.

Yeah, I meant to type basketball but went brain dead.  John Tyson and Cal are tight.  Tysons don't care about football for whatever reason.

If Hugh Freeze can get hired after using the school phone to line up whores, anyone can get hired.  Hell, Sark's background isn't great.

Petrino can't get hired as a HC because he sucks at being a head coach.

The way I understand is verbiage in the contract says something about him not being able to be HC, but interim is possibly okay.

Mentioned on the other thread but they should make a run at Jeff Traylor.  He’s 57 and the shine is a bit off so unlikely to get a premier P5 job. Well respected in Texas HS circles,  runs a solid program.

Work with him for 7-8 years to get the NIL going and the program on the right track and then the next guy will be in place to elevate it.

Yep, this would be the logical choice.   Spent a couple of years up in Arky under the failed Chad Morris experiment, but that can't be blamed on Traylor.   He's built his own reputation at UTSA to separate himself anyhow.   Being from East Texas and still respected in Texas High School Football coaching ranks is big help to.   Okie State or Arky would be dumb not to give him a serious look.

Hey,man, what the fuck is this nonsense? The school is top notch? According to people who went there, perhaps, and that is about it.

The Jones family cannot be involved with NIL due to the league's position that ownership participating in NIL for college athletes constitutes a conflict of interest. When we were courting Cal McNair, he asked the league's compliance end to provide an opinion, and this is what they came back with for him, which was fucking great.

For a student experience yeah Arkansas is a top notch choice. Don’t get me wrong, it’s one of three “fuck no” schools for my kids. But just look at all the Texas exes parents sending their kids there, and some are regular posters here. Academics?  No one gives a fuck.  But they have a solid fan base, nice undergrad experience, there’s no reason Arky can’t be as successful as Ole Miss, at least.

didn’t realize JJ was per se excluded because of NFL ownerhip. That’s good info. Thanks.

Jerry doesn't care about winning. He may say he does but he doesn't.

To be clear, I ain’t roaming around here actively trying to solve their problem. I’m saying fuck them, they have enough wealth circling around and enough going for them that Arkansas does not have to wallow in the mud of the SEC cellar, it may be who they are, but that’s on them. They have what is needed to have reasonable success in this era and I have no sympathy for them holding on to their loser mentality so they can have a built in excuse for losing and be able to point the finger at others and laugh when they have fleeting moments of glory. It’s a personality flaw, fuck them.

I give a fuck about academics. And I care about academics for my kid when he's going to go to college. I can't speak to anyone else's thoughts and experiences as a parent, but it matters to me and mine. What a dumb statement.

If you're definition of "top notch" is a college campus that isn't hideous and kids can get fucking laid, well, I guess we can just agree to have different standards.

Well, my kid is in his first year there, in the honors college and Fulbright College of arts/sciences, and so far those classes have been a rigorous and engaging academic experience for him.  Their acceptance rate in low-to-mid 70s puts them in the middle of the pack in SEC (on par with Mizzou, LSU, OU, etc.) and the % of accepted applicants choosing to go there is rising, so I imagine you'll see the acceptance rate drop in the next decade.  So no, it's not Vandy or UT, but it is definitely improving in that area.

we are talking about football players on this thread. not a student's experience, however, putting my extreme bias against UA aside, see below.

I 100% acknowledged UA is on the rise. my "I don't give a fuck" about their academics was in relation to talking about football players experience. My kids are avoiding SEC all together so it's not something I will start caring about, but suffice it to say, a lot of UT Exes who have sent their kids to UA have a very similar view as you do.

That's fair.  And I will also say that over our visits up there the past couple years, we've totally fallen in love with the whole Northwest Arkansas region (the hiking/MTB opportunities alone are fantastic), to the point that I would be fine to throw in the towel on the Dallas suburban rat race and relocate up there if I had fewer commitments to keep me here for now.

once off the football board, your views are in line with the majority. I for one prefer larger mountains and the ocean for opting out of the rat race. but you are talking about UA the way I meant for a kid who is considering playing football. cute coeds, beautiful country, SEC, rabid fan base, cool gameday experience, and oddly more than a few billionaires to fund their program. their failure is 100% on them and no one else.

We we talking about football players on this thread? Because I didn't see this specified and your post directly talks about kids of Texas alums being sent to Arkansas? We're you talking about kids of former players? Because I must have missed that mass exodus. We're NOT Talking about a student's experience? Because this was YOUR post:

About the only thing I can glean from last two posts is that not even you know what the fuck you're/we're talking about on this thread. It's like we're walking in a conversation that you're halfway through having with yourself.

it got garbled up i'll admit. this topic about UA always does because most of us hate them to some degree and others are sending their kids there and love it. happens like clockwork when you mention UA being a shitty place to be.

my premise remains this:  UA has the school, the natural beauty, the coeds, the SEC experience, the game day experience, the rabid fan base, and enough wealth around it to be better than the bottom half or in the cellar of the conference.  That's the "top notch" I'm referring to. I think they could easily be on par with or better than Ole Miss.  I really think it's not even debatable that the Pigs are wallowing in their own misery because of a fatal cultural flaw that is no one's fault but theirs. They whine and bitch about it, but they haven't done a damn thing about it to make their football program better and they have way more resources than many.  that's it. and if that's confusing, well, I don't know what else to fucking tell you.

Improving from dogshit isn't saying much. On par with Missouri, LSU, OU and the other shitty academic schools in the SEC is saying even less.

I get that it is personal for people who send their kids to these places. I paid for the entire experience of ATM for a child when it was a better academic institution than the diploma mill it has become and I still feel the need to defend its academics occasionally because of that. That said, objectively, the academic rep and the talent output for business-related degrees suck at Arkansas. I've hired Arkansas grads over the years and I am related to two more, one of whom is grant-winning and published MD, and I stand by that position. The rankings all agree.

I've hired grads from blueblood schools that were terrible, and I've hired folks who went to small directional schools who were fantastic.  So, YMMV.   Anyway, back to football. :)

That was part of my point. I'm not saying quality candidates can't come out of Arkansas, but that doesn't really change the overall position of the school within the academic hierarchy of the US.

And yeah, I no longer hire out of the Ivies unless it's Penn and try to avoid Stanford for similar reasons. Conversely, LSU and OU are off-limits for just producing almost nothing but incompetence. LSU should just be closed. Their output is doing more harm than good for any economy they wind up being a part of in this country.

Boy's a sophomore there.  Biz school.  Supply Chain @ Walton.  ROTC/Guard.  Frat.  He loves it.  We're close to pulling the cord and moving up there as well.  Daughter will be in school in Tennessee so we're not 'that' far from her.  Probably the Rogers/Goshen area if I had to guess
