I guarantee if Ewers was a black QB instead of a white redneck from Southlake people like Steamboat would be shitting all over him.

This shit is as bad as maga delusion. Virtually every metric says he was subpar. The eye test says he was subpar. Almost everyone who broke down tape pre-draft saw he was subpar. The NFL scouts and GMs, after breaking down tape, said he was subpar. His receivers were drafted highly. His linemen drafted. His RBs drafted. His TEs drafted. Yet he is barely drafted in one of the final picks as a training camp flyer.

It's ok to be honest and critical of a white QB from a privileged suburb. I bet these same delusional morons trying to argue his greatness were also cheerleading unwavering support for Hudson Card's greatness. But that was harder since he didn't have the most NFL talent around him of any QB in the country. Even spare scrub QBs like Greg McElroy and Mac Jones won NCs with that advantage.

Because that’s what this thread needed. A conversation about race. The competition is tough, but this might be the worst post in this entire thread.

Still amazes me how Golden was able to get behind the defense. ASU secondary coach has probably watched that 100 times wondering how #2 took a false step to the out route and #7 bites on Golden's fake. Golden wide open to the point he turns around and waits on the ball and he is still 5 yards behind them.

I’m amazed they had two guys doing absolutely nothing but hanging out in no man’s land at about 3 and 7 yards deep.  Not a big leave your DBs on an island on long yardage situations fan.  It’s recent but this is as bad a play call as I can remember.

I just think it was poorly played. The Deep safety completely blew his assignment and got caught eyeing Moore (?) on his out (Xavier Alford). The other guy just bit hard on Golden's jab step. They are blitzing, which was picked up, but there is no reason for Alford not to be the deepest man in that situation. Perhaps the DBs were over-aggressive thinking the pressure would get home and the pass would have to come out quick. They did drop 6. I put this more on execution, than play call. I would guess you hated PK's call on the screen more. To be sadistic I could say Orlando's 4th down call vs LSU.

The Orlando play call was awful.   The PK screen doesn’t hit a chord for me really.

This one left the backend little room for error once the pass rush was stoned.  I thought it was said it was a cover 4, which could explain several of the reactions.  I’ll always prefer having my second level defenders push any throw towards the backend defenders.  I’m giving Golden some extra attention. I’m making my QB think.  And I’m making him make a throw between at least two guys.  None of that happened.

So it’s ok to shit on Bert?

Yeah, he should have made one of those FGs.  Ideally, the offense doesnt stall and settled for a 48 yarder.  Not what I’d call a satisfactory drive.

Thats where Ewers needed to seal the deal.  And Sark too.  We’ve lost several games because the offense did not finish the deal.  Bama 22.  OU and UW 23.  ASU in 24.  Don’t settle for FGs.

NO!! NO IT'S NOT!

oh my god, give it a rest with the secondhand victim complex for quinn. on two different teams full of college stars, all americans, national awards winners, and nfl draft picks, quinn ewers was one of our poorest, least dependable players. that’s reality. of everyone on the entire roster, we needed QE- more than anyone else- to play well in order for us to reach our potential, and week after week, season after season, pretty much everyone else on the field in burnt orange was a better, more dependable player than he was. that’s simple fact.

despite this, you want to run in here and repeatedly claim that it was quinn who personally led us to the playoffs, and that it was quinn who personally turned this program around, and then when people have the audacity to point out that that’s simply not true you cry about people “trashing” our millionaire, video game cover boy qb, even though he is without a doubt the no.1 reason we never reached our potential. valid criticism comes with the territory; your inability to handle it is your own problem.

Why? All those reasons listed are why this team was held back by our QB. I’m happy we had semi final appearances the last two years but this years team was good enough to win a title with a top 3 defense in program history. Back to back years we’ve set program records for draft picks with the most important position limiting this team. You could see it in how Sark had to call plays because of those limitations. You will see it this year when the offense looks completely different because of a QB who can push the ball downfield and has athleticism to avoid the rush and limit self sacks with better pocket awareness. But some growing pains are expected for a first year starter, the issue with Quinn is he regressed so much from year 2 to year 3.

The number one limitation on this team was its ability to run the football. Period. In every game that we lost we couldn't run the ball. 29 yards vs Georgia regular season. 31 yards vs Georgia in the SEC championship. 53 yards vs Arizona State. 58 yards vs Ohio State. And that is why posters don't take people like you and Derka seriously. People see Quinn's flaws, but to say he was what held us back this year is disingenuous.

It was Sark that said Quinn helped turn this program around you self centered prick.

I don’t remember anyone saying Quinn personally “led” us to the playoffs.

hard to establish the run game when nobody on the defense is worried about the qb who can’t move the chains with his arm, can’t scramble, and self sacks more than almost any other qb in football. that tends to make things tougher on your patchwork rb room that was actually performing admirably all things considered.

If you cannot run the football immobile quarterbacks are going to struggle. That's simple football logic. Using the draft position to prove your point is moronic. That's why I won't spend a bunch of time arguing about where people are drafted. There are three types of draft picks. Guys who the NFL think have what it takes(High draft picks). Guys who the NFL think are incapable because of size/ability(low draft picks). Guys who the NFL thinks has the typical size/skill but haven't refined it yet(project players). The NFL's opinion is Quinn is of the second group. Incapable. Not strong enough arm. Not good enough in the pocket. Etc. That is a wait and see if they are correct for me and a lot of other posters here. There are many instances of him standing tall and throwing 20 yard outs that most QBs cannot throw. Just as there are many instances of wounded ducks. Outsid of mobility, he has the tools to be solid in the league it really just depends on running game and protection. So 85 pages of back and forth when no one has touched the field is just dumb. But carry on.

Another reason why people don't take your football takes seriously Derka. Anyone here who even understands football a little bit watched defense after defense trot out at least two deep safeties for the majority of the time Sark has been calling offense at the University of Texas. In fact, quite a few of them tried to run the 3 high flyover that has been so successful in the past vs Sark offenses. Even when we trotted out 12 personnel.  Did a couple teams get aggressive in the box? Sure. Georgia did in our second meeting as a changeup and Quinn threw for 358.

You can't just spout out easily refutable untruths Derka, like "the rb room was performing admirably" when every single loss we had we didn't crack 60 yards. A solid running team can run on any box because there are always angles and blocking schemes you can use to counter them. If you come out of every big game with a yard or two per carry you are NOT a good running team. Full stop.

this was my point about the OL.  Quinn was fine(mostly very good not great, some not so good).  The inability to establish the running game knowing you had a limited running QB, who got even more limited after his injury is on Sark.

It is also on Sark that he decided not to go to his more mobile QB to help with the running game.  There has to be a reason for that but I can't imaging what it was, such a mystery.

It all starts with the OL.  we are much better but not where we need to be and we still had a shot.

I think everyone understands that the D was championship level throughout the season and that the O was not quite championship level. Kicking I will leave at "ugh".

Quinn had a better OL than Colt had, except Colt wasn't a statue and could make plays with his legs to account for breakdowns.

It's not even a new metric you dumb mother fucker. If a QB holds the ball too long the credit doesn't get given to the OL. That is on the QB not getting the ball out or throwing away.

16 Oklahoma 8 319 1001 3.1 6 125.1

That is in conference ranking on average yards per. Texas was top 3 in the SEC, that includes QB rushing stats. So lets not shit on the OL too much. I get it they did not run the ball well vs teams with 11 NFL players on defense, but overall they were pretty good.
