@Steamboat1874 Here is a quiz for you....watch this clip and tell us if you think this is a sack given up by Kelvin Banks or self sack by Quinn Ewers

https://youtube.com/clip/UgkxXGfmchPbI_tH1QcIA0qqUVYPd1eq2gz-?si=kqiEAWWBmljeWMoQ

Yes that was a sack and he should have stepped up sooner.

No one was open and it possibly could have been thrown away and it also could have been a pick six if he forces it which he did not do.

What do I win ?

Several meaning one. You’re the only person having trouble with this.

Aren’t you also the guy that told us Mo Rivera pitched everyday and we should throw Volantis three days in a row?

You’re just old man. Sorry but the games have changed.

This guy must have hated when he saw the forward pass introduced.

You don’t win because that is a self sack. You pointing out he should have stepped up sooner is why that is graded a self sack.

Ok cool. Whatever makes you happy or I guess not happy in your case.

Again why are you nothing but combative? You can disagree with people without being an asshole to everyone.

Steam,

I believe those that track self sacks do attempt to define it.  It is not perfect, but it is a data point.  They’re doing their best to apply it consistently.  It’s not even called a self sack I don’t believe.

If the Olinemen is beat or missed an assignment, it’s not put on the QB.  There is an analysis of every player on every play with a reasonable determination about what the offense and defense are attempting to do.

I know what a self sack is assclown but I am not so sure there is any way to measure it.

What looks like a self sack could be because of a myriad of reasons that don’t involve the decision of the QB.

Blaming all of the those types of plays solely on the QB is stupid.

I am sorry buddy. As much as I would like to step in and help you I promised @hobbes2702 I would not. Good luck in your fight my friend. Stand tall. If you are feeling overwhelmed look to Derka for an example of how to stand up

You QAnons always add caveats to scenarios where Quinn looks terrible but blame someone else and it’s never Quinn’s fault.

Here’s a screen grab from the Film Guy’s analysis on the game. Quinn’s leg can be seen by the 0 score. It looks like a clean pocket if he just steps up. But then you throw in all this other DE-DT twist shit to distract from the fact that Quinn fucked up. Just own it. Thats where the discontent is on this thread. That Quinn is never at fault when we can see it clearly on the game film. It’s not about his political views either. I don’t give a fuck if he supports Trump or Kamala or Jill Stein. When you make excuses and redirect blame for a person without any accountability the way some of you Quinn supporters do, that’s the fucking cult behavior Derka keeps blabbing about because Texas Football is so above blatant homerism like that.

Who is talking about that play? Lol. Quinn should've stepped into the pocket on the example you are giving. I am asking who's fault it is on my example? You still haven't answered.

So you must have shitty players.  Right?  Does a losing record qualify or some other qualifier?

Shitty teams can have good players on the roster, sometimes great players. It's a team sport. You're completely missing the point. QE was the quarterback when Texas went from losing a lot of games to winning a lot of games, hence as QB he "led" the team over that transition. Do you see the logic?

@Thatguy

if nothing else you talk football, some don’t care to engage in that.

You didn’t ask me, but generally I’d say not on QB.  Flashing back to UW last year, there was a borderline QB fault on a Campbell sack.  Not sure if it was a twist.  Really more unfortunate timing.

If he was the sole reason for the improvement I’d see that but the entire roster improved beyond him.

No ones saying he's the sole reason, holy shit. The point is that it's reasonable for someone to say he "led" the team over that time because he was the quarterback. Can we agree?

I got you.  I agree with you.

My point still stands.  The thrashing of players goes a bit far.  I’m not even saying you even though I took a small comment out of context perhaps.  Maybe slightly intentionally.  That overall tone of negativity is present here on both sides.

It’s always team.

I can agree with using led. The issue is a lot of people on various boards and platforms say “because of him”

I talk a lot of shit, I know. That said I have a lot of respect for the posters here. I look at this place like that sports friend group where the shit talk is nonstop but it's all love when it's all said and done.

@Had Enough it was a serious question because I honestly don't know how they stat that.

In your example of a twist it is NOT Quinn’s fault that he got sacked. I have no problem giving Quinn props for when he makes a play and when others fail around him. I do have a problem with some people not recognizing when Quinn is at fault and start pointing the fingers at other teammates around him.

My example of the sack near the goal line is to counter Steam’s argument that
self sacks is a bullshit subjective statistic when my example shows clear as day that it’s a self sack. But then you start throwing in “well what if it’s a twist, is it Quinn’s fault?” Of course a twist is not Quinn’s fault, but you have successfully detracted the argument away from Quinn being at fault for creating a self sack into arguing about what constitutes a self sack in itself. Great way to take the heat off Quinn in this discussion.

I will just leave it at this…..

I don’t appreciate a so-called Texas “fan or fans” on a Texas message board dogging one of the best quarterbacks in school history.

A guy that decided to come here even after we finished 5-7 in the previous season.

A guy that gave his heart and soul, blood and guts, to this program and helped regain our national prominence, often playing injured because he fucking cared about his team.

A guy that helped us win the Big XII in our final season there and then have the best record in our first year in the SEC and play in the championship game.

A guy that helped us reach two consecutive NCAA playoff semifinals and the only team to do so.

You pricks just want to post fucking stats to validate your criticism, yet giving very little credit when it is due.

Yeah that bugs the shit out of me even though it is a message board and there is no accountability.

So if that is your deal go ahead and make asses of yourselves.

It is fine to have your opinions here but dogging Texas players at any time is a no go in my book.

Fuck you if you do and don’t call yourself a fan.

You are just an Internet sensation in your own mind.

Now get the fuck off of my lawn assholes.

The end.

Honestly it’s why I don’t put people on ignore except for phlegm when he was active but that was because he’d post a million pictures that made browsing the site terrible, especially on mobile. Everyone here is good people especially the ones I’ve met IRL….Also I only dig in when I’m bored and do the things I do to posters once they react a certain way. W

As to the first point, why?  And some posters believe another poster has issues.

As to the second one, I have some insight but working from educated guesses as to this particular point.  There is subjectivity but working from what is likely a defined set of circumstances.  It’s a bit fandom view, but the teams use the info so there’s likely team input even if indirectly.

So on that play, obviously you’d need a specific visual, but generally speaking that’s on the Oline.  If it’s 5 seconds after the snap and the QB runs into his lap in the opposite B gap, then the Oline won’t likely get tagged for that.

I know.  He seems to be an open book.  But it’s a bit surprising that level of engagement he drums up.  He’s passionate about it.  We all are to some degree.  And many of us can be over the top.  As for me, as of age, I become less mature regarding my sports opinions and dig in a little deeper.

It was merely a joke directed at thatguy so Derks don’t think I’m coming at you.

Glad you finally agree that Quinn wasn’t the good and better QB play wins national titles. It took a long time to get you here and some finessing of words but welcome to the club.

And if we had Ricky or Bijan, we would have won the NC.

And if we had Dicker or Tucker, we would have won the NC.

And of course, if we had Colt or Vince, we would have won the NC.

He is not the only person who thinks this could be objective, or even in error without knowing the call.

What if the call is a RB screen right w/ a fake to WR screen left but the RB runs a wheel route. The QB fakes to the left then eats it (having seen the RB take off). Statistician could label this a self sack when it is on the RB, but you would have to know the play call, and that it included a fake.

plenty of people have praised the D.  I have consistently said they were Championship level and that the O, specficially was not quite there.  ST were meh to below average.

unless you have some ethereal RB like Ricky, or the D is the 85 Bears, the QB is discussed as "leading the team" in almost any football context.  I'm not sure that anyone said Quinn "turned the program" around,

It has been stated, but mostly as a platitude.  No one wanted to write a dissertation on the value of QE committing to Texas and the impact on recruiting, the upgrade to the position and the success that helped put us on track for additional recruit upgraddes which followed from the additional contributions of a variety of players and coaches across the team and then go into detail about each statement.  But some want to spin that as worship or just simply cannot understand the subtly of normal human communications.

I can just imagine the poor retail cashier at HEB that greets someone with, "Hi, how are you?" regretting that when some posters really think they want to hear about their rash.

Playcall is irrelevant because self sack is graded post play happening…people who grade the sack would not grade that a self sack because they see the totality of the play. And the correct play by the QB in that scenario would be to ground the football in the area of the back because that is considered a busted play.
