many years ago I took a supershuttle from cascade locks oregon to the portland airport. This is a perfect description of that journey.

But it was only like 15 dollars for the ride.

Were you hiking?

They are more expensive than uber. Even with the “pink” upgrade I get from my CC.

this is the exact opposite of my experience. lyft is almost always far cheaper than uber.

Worth it to check both for cost and estimated wait time. Takes about 30 seconds and there can be a big difference on both cost and wait.

Main problem I’m having right now is that uber is flat out bullshitting on their wait time estimate unless I’m DT.

Speaking of wait times, up until 2-3 years ago ABIA had an easily accessible link which posted real-time waits of each security check inside the terminal.  It was super helpful because, as you know, there's largely no rhyme or reason for much of the security delays at ABIA.  8am on a Monday morning?  Two mins tops.  1:15pm on Wednesday?  Line out the door and wrapped around to the Blue Lot and TSA pre is 45mins+ and hundreds have missed flights.

But somewhere along the way shortly after Covid ABIA took this feature away when they were "updating" the technology and, wouldn't you know it, the feature still is not back up and running.

Pretty infuriating.

Whatever the wait is when you’re leaving your house is likely not going to be accurate when you arrive at the airport anyway. The wait  could be nonexistent and then within 15 minutes thousands of people show up for their flights and the wait is suddenly an hour long.

ABIA adjacent complaints...

Does Uber now require that every driver possess a car with at least one warning light (two preferred) illuminated?  Check engine, ABS, tire inflation, etc.  If only one is illuminated, then brake vibration or grinding is required.

Flights into EWR are delayed significantly today.  EWR having runway repairs.  6a flight now 8:20.  Ugh.

PreCheck is becoming more annoying over time.  (1) too many people have it now (2) fucking Clear breaks the line.  New x-ray scanner machines are slower than before.

Traveled out of Austin last week for the first time in 2025. A 9:30am flight, arriving at the airport two hours before, and was in the regular security line with genpop because my TSApre expired in December and I forgot to renew. Took about 20 minutes from walking in the door, checking my bags, and getting through the security line. Better than I expected.

I can see summer sucking, though.

The Uber situation was very predictable and I was warning about it on here 8 years ago. Driver pay was continually cut to the point that desperate immigrants living in their car and methheads are your main driver candidates now. Drivers used to get 80% of the fare. It varies now but 45-55% seems standard.

This will get fixed when self driving cars are the main option.

This is the biggest culprit.  The new machines take forever and are the real bottleneck.

Cliff notes.  John’s sister got tired of him mismanaging (or choose whatever word you want) his truck on South 1st and fired him and took over his business and renamed it either with a French article or West Coast city. Several posters did not think that aggression should stand, man.  John then spiraled out of control and ran two or three (I lost count) of other stores out of business (some of which some posters may or may not have invested in) all the while putting out some of the best  brisket in the world.  Then he died.

And Fenway is at the south end of the city, you can jump across the Harbor, 1 3/4 miles and your in the financial district. 1 Mile and you're in Seaport. Silver Line gets me to South Station in a few minutes.

What is this Silver Line thing you refer to in your post. I feel like I'm pretty up on ride share app and I've never heard of such a thing.

There was a Orange Line ride share in Chicago from downtown to the airport... but that was, ya know, the El.
