Tacos?

In Portland?

 Were they patchouli tacos?

https://robotacopdx.com/

I had a carne asada taco and a pork belly taco.  They were delicious.  Washed them down with a Paloma.

He played Central Machine Works a few weeks ago.
One night back in 2007 at Mohawk I saw BJL & Spoon- entry was  $10.
I saw that same tour while I was on vacation in Vancouver BC.

Hah, fantastic! IIRC the Austin show was only a month or so before that Vancouver show.

Went to see The Lumineers last night at Dickies Arena in Fort Worth. Have always wanted to see them but it never worked out until now. Great show, exceeded expectations. I was very impressed by their band members’ diversity of musical talents and most of them rotating through multiple instruments throughout the show.

Seeing them in a few weeks in Dallas. Should be fun.

We saw Wet Leg last week at Southside Ballroom and they were terrific.

He did this in detroit a few months ago. Also he never wears shoes or socks! Guys a wild man!

High Water Fest lineup unexpectedly dropped today. Caamp headlining and MMJ make it entirely worth it. A little odd that MMJ headlined just a few years ago and do not appear to be playing last on Saturday.  I hope they get a similar-length set to the Shakes. Shovels & Rope no longer curate so the lineup has gotten a little less indie/eclectic the last few years. Counting Crows were terribad last year -- at least this year's "Crow" band will probably sound a bit better. And Bruce Hornsby? WTAF (though quick Internet search shows this might be some bluegrass project he's doing now, which might fit better than his mainstream shit from 30 years ago.)

McMurtry at Continental Club last night. I've attended his shows there fairly regularly for over 20 years now and must admit that I'm glad it's at 10:00 these days instead of midnight like it had been for ages (although the early Gallery shows have always been an excellent  alternative).

He played a wide range including a few from his new album and as far back as 1989, closing with a powerful/heavy version of Too Long in the Wasteland and a fun one earlier on from 1995 (Fuller Brush Man).

He still draws a big crowd- we're lucky to have such easy access to his shows.

The Stews brought it last night.

They closed the show with “9-5” and transitioned in and out of “War pigs”.

They do have an annoying following though. Groups of college kids chattering, getting hammered, and losing all sense of self-awareness.

Man I’m so tired of people showing up to concerts or even football games and just chatting up non-stop, with no focus on the event they attended.

Stay home and chat on the porch if you want to do that.   Just stfu.

brmc at mohawk saturday night. was on the floor and it was far too sweaty for an october night. they played all of howl and 5 or 6 other songs. i saw them at the parish 20 years ago when they originally toured for howl. it's not an album i listen to much, had forgotten how emo it is. it got a bit too whiney for me a couple times, was happy when they got to the rock portion of the show.

tom petty tribute concert yesterday at hotel ella. the damn torpedoes were the backing band for several guests, and then played their own set of covers. kevin russell and kelley mickwee did a great job on stop dragging my heart around and nightwatchman. ray benson covered you don't know how it feels, and he flubbed a lot of the lyrics. the damn torpedoes drummer remains the most energetic, over the top drummer i've seen in quite some time.

now let's talk about this boomer trend that i find infuriating. they will get there early and set up in the back of the venue next to a table or rail they can lean on. then they expect that no one will stand in front of them in the vast amount of open space available between them and the stage. the conversation usually goes something like this:

boomer: are you seriously going to stand right there?

me: yes

boomer: i got here very early to stand here. it's extremely rude that you think you can waltz right in and stand in front of me.

me: you're welcome to stand in front of me, there's plenty of room.

boomer: but i want to stay in this spot

me: well that's your choice then

I’ve seen that exact scenario play out against a side wall and said the same thing.

I was there, and it was uncomfortably packed. They needed a venue twice that size. I’m not one to get claustrophobic but that set up was bad.

I enjoyed the opening band (humanist) a lot.

As long as I can get a rail spot on the top balcony at Mohawk, I'm good.  If it's too crowded for that it's hard to finagle decent sight and sound.  (It's still probably my favorite club in town, though.)
