I don't mind crazy Danica.  She's okay by me.

Karun on the other hand, ugh, what an absolute beating.

You don't mind that Danica just says dumb shit that's not remotely accurate and/or blatantly obvious over and over?  Team Button on that one.

Karun has never really bothered me until this year, but he's starting to wear thin.  Especially when he's wrong, gets called out by the others, and tries to keep going.  Take your L and move on.

No, not really.  🤷‍♂️

Yeah Nico's awesome for just not gaf and asking the questions everyone else wants to hear asked. Being a WDC with lifetime Paddock access probably helps in that regard. He's not worried about losing access. He's very quick on his feet and is able to subtly twist the knife or get straight to the meat of the subect when everyone else is dancing around it. He also brings a lot of good insights as a former driver that some of the other ex-drivers don't seem to want to talk about imho. Also, love Ant, Paul (too bad he's gone), & Bernie for just bringing fantastic technical and/or driving insights. Jenson's too nice to say anything remotely controversial about any of the drivers, and Martin is good if you can get past his sometimes blatant biases. Jacques is actually pretty good too, like a crazy French Canadian asshole version of Nico.

Crofty is like that big, goofy yellow lab that runs all over the yard not knowing much but not really needing to know that much (as far I'm concerned). And maybe even that's being too harsh on him imho. He knows a fair amount, but imho probably tosses silly theories and speculation into the discussion just so they get discussed & often dismissed - not necessarily because he actually believes them. He's good at being the guy that holds everything together, imho (which is much more difficult than it looks), and for me, that's all he needs to be. He's there to tie all the experts together, not to be an expert. That Harry Benjamin (?) guy seems to be being groomed for that spot, and he's pretty decent too imho.

Karun is utterly freaking useless and hopelessly annoying, other than being a decent F1 historian. For analytical or current info purposes, he's a big, long-winded bowl of shit. IMHO Ted is great in the Paddock and pitlane, bringing a lot of good info from there in a usually entertaining way.

Simon, Nat, & Naomi are good at the fluffy stuff & the three or more driver features/interviews per race weekend (2 with Lewis + 1 other Brit), so I'll allow them to stay. Karun and Crazy Danica can hit the bricks. /csb

Other than the obvious and probably understandable Brit bias in the Sky coverage, I'm good with it - although it does seem to be getting more and more dumbed down lately a la the old NBC coverage. Gonna be interesting to see what we get if Apple gets (got?) US rights tho.

Solid takes, all of them.

Button was always one of my fav drivers, so smooth. He doesn't rock the boat though and can be pretty boring in the booth.

Having watched F1 since 1996 or so, I remember some of the bad commentator days. James Allen was nails on a chalkboard to me, so Cofty coming around has been great.

Speaking of all-time nails on a chalkboard, that would be Leigh Diffey. Hear he's a nice guy, but his Aussie accent is annoying AF.

And I totally agree on Nico-- not only is he willing and able to discuss the more pointed topics, but he also adds a lot to the driving/technical discussions.  I really do like Jenson but I feel like he's supposed to be covering a similar role and he just doesn't bring as much to it.

Yup and yup.  Nico really was on it this weekend.

Hmm .. apparently Horner is meeting with Bernie. Maybe gonna buy Alpine, maybe with Bernie and Flav? I hope so. Need to get rid of Renault/Alpine.

I know he's rich, but does he have that much money?  I also can't say I know how much money it takes to buy and run an F1 team.

He might not be that rich, but Bernie and Flavio are. Flavio much less than Bernie tho. Horner is buddies with Bernie. And Bernie & Flav are buddies. And of course both Bernie & Flav know errbody ... lots of friends with big $$.

Bernie is worth I believe around $3B and that is after paying the crown 650M+ for tax evasion.

Granted he has a 5-year old to save for college, but I think Bernie could pull together enough between he, Flavio, and a few others.

I agree that it is time for a complete re-boot, or extermination, of Renault/Alpine. I wanted them to succeed as I like as many different constructors and engines as possible. And I still have fond memories of Schumacher’s second title with Renault power.

I too like Nico. He’s got a dry sense of humor and good timing. Karun is horrible. I try to not watch the pre-race show. I do go straight to YouTube to watch the post-race show though to see the interviews from drivers through the field.

I guess Horner could also dip into the Spice Girl $$$ from Geri.

I’m glad I saw that first-lap pass by Oscar before I kind of fell asleep on the couch.

That's a wild starting grid.

LEC on pole, HAM at 12 - shocker for both
ALO 5, STR 6 - where the fuck has this been?
BOR 7, VER 8!?!? - Gabby's prerace: This is not your fight today
SAI 13, ALB 20 - Williams' inconsistency is unreal
LAW 9 - middle 1/3 of the season has been really solid for him.
BEA starts 11...finishes 11?

I’d complain, too.

Now that Hamilton has come out and said it himself maybe the media coverage will stop acting like he's one of the best drivers.

Quote

A despondent Lewis Hamilton labeled himself "absolutely useless" after qualifying 12th for the Hungarian Grand Prix and said Ferrari "probably need to change driver."

The seven-time world champion failed to make the cut for the final part of qualifying at the Hungaroring by 0.015 seconds before watching from the sideline as his Ferrari teammate Charles Leclerc took a shock pole position ahead of the dominant McLaren cars.

As he returned to the pits after the session, Hamilton radioed his team to say, "every time, every time."

Asked by Sky Sports after the session what he was referring to, he said: "It's just me every time."

He added: "I am useless. Absolutely useless."

When it was put to him that Ferrari was working to adapt the car to suit his driving style, Hamilton said: "The team has no problem. You can see the car is on pole [with Leclerc].

"They probably need to change driver."

The result was Hamilton's third disappointing qualifying session in the past two weeks after he was knocked out in sprint qualifying 1 for the race in Belgium and the first session for grand prix qualifying.

It follows a tough half of a season for Hamilton, who joined Ferrari from Mercedes over the winter but has struggled to jell with the car at the first 13 races.

His best result remains a sprint race victory at the Chinese Grand Prix, although he has yet to finish on the podium in a grand prix.

At the Belgian Grand Prix, he made the most of a wet race to recover to seventh place from a pit lane start, but he doubted rain forecast for Sunday would provide a similar opportunity in Hungary.

"I don't think anything can help me right now," he added.

And with the way Ferrari has hung him out to dry many times, his complaints are valid at times.

It’s just the name I gave to a party we started having in 2018. It was the summer after my mother died and we had other deaths in the family and I figured a bunch of us needed some fun.

I put a bunch of meat on my pellet smokers, limited sides. Lots of Bier and good-natured ribbing.

Today I did three beef tenderloin, two pork loins, salmon, & chicken. Some ginger slaw for the one pork loin I turned into something similar to a pulled pork, some Asian cucumbers, and pies from the Oakmont Bakery.

It was great fun. Probably about 40 people.

Motherfucjer! You don’t pit Leclerc first at Hungary! Ferrari might have just thrown away a win for third place.

I hate Ferrari so got dam much!

Preventing the undercut, particularly in Hungary, seems like a good strategy.

Leclerc must have a car issue. He’s all of a sudden 2 seconds per lap slower.

Ferrari making changes to Leclerc’s car without telling him and killing his pace. I hate Ferrari so fucking much!

If Leclerc ever leaves, I will hate them more than just about any team in sports.

WTF did Ferrari do? He had the fastest car and now he’s going to finish off of the podium.

Charles is pissed. That team does not listen to the drivers enough. Still an absolute mess.

Gotta say I'm impressed w/ Lando.  He seems to be maturing and able to deal w/ setbacks so much better than even earlier in this season.  Wouldn't have thought he had the fortitude.

How different would the driver narrative be if Oscar had crashed them both out on 69?

Or maybe Ferrari is a fucked team with a wildly unpredictable car. He can only do so much when he’s handed a shit box. Charles was shocked he was able to get pole and then today lost due to whatever issues Ferrari “fixed.”

That was baffling by Ferrari but, on par for recent history. I felt a bit bad for LeClerc cuz he seems like a good guy.

As for Hamilton, I've said it before, I think he's done. His car at Mercedes was light years ahead of the competition. He still drove so very well but, I rate Schumacher above Hamilton is the greatest-ever discussion. I think Schumacher had more to do with building teams and making teams & cars better. That's just my opinion. Schumacher's winning % is 29.7 and Hamilton is now at 28.37.

That was a great job by Lando running so many laps on those tires, and holding off a couple of dives by Piastri. I was pretty certain that in those final four laps, or so, that Lando would lock up in a turn and lose position. Well done.

The top-10 from today is kind of nuts too. Alonso is 5th, Bortoleto in 6th, Stroll in 7th and Lawson in 8th; all in front of Max.

Now we have to wait until the 29th for P1 at Zandvoort.

George’s theory makes sense.  They were definitely going something shady with how Leclerc was being so cagey on the radio when discussing their issues.

Ferrari has been fucking up since... Cable TV.

LeClerc underperforms, it's the team and car...  Hamilton (who is 6th in WDC in a new car with a new team) underperforms and he's washed.

When Hamilton joined Ferrari, my son said, "What is he thinking? He's going to ruin the end of his career "

Hell, Hamilton could be degraded as a driver (probably is). But how would anyone know given how mid to terrible Ferrari has been for decades? They can't even keep LeClerc happy with his car and he's been there for years. There should be zero question about what a winning car looks like for him. They shouldn't need to destroy the car trying goofy changes on race day. He's been in the car since 2019. He's been a driver with them since 2016... And they can't get it right.

2022 could have been a thing, if the car could finish races. 9 poles. 3 wins. They're coming up on 20 years of futility.

Who has fallen off more this season, Max or Lewis? Max isn't washed. Sometimes the team can't get out of their own way. Ferrari.

"I don't think we'll finish on the podium."

Ferrari woes are not driver-based.

Stop picking tire compounds that can do the race distance and don't fall off a cliff.

I'm not trying to be argumentative as I agree on the fantastic ball of confusion that surrounds Ferrari. It's astounding that they shoot themselves in the foot so often.

Even with all of the dramatic fuck-ups Ferrari has finished second in the constructor's championship seven times, since and including 2012 and are currently second. They have also finished third five times, since and including 2010.

Obviously the third-place finishes are much, much less impressive than the seconds, and they have not won a driver's title since 2007.

Hamilton has two victories in his last 82 races. I just think at 40 years old he isn't up to snuff. I think the same about Alonso, who has not won in 203 races. I think LeClerc has six wins in his last 80 races.

And yes, there are a ton of factors that go into it all.

I agree with your son
