My first glove was a JR Richard.  He was my first "favorite player" in baseball and it sucked how he left the game.

Edit: watching video and it was weird hearing Perlman saying the same thing.  I never wrote the Astros though.

There are some in the Houston media who tried to make the argument the Astros screwed up by not leaving Smith in the minors because he is going to be great and playing him this year will cost them a year of team control.

With this roster and the other outfield options, fuck that idea.

Brown helped get signed Acuna to a long ass contract, he can sign Smith to one as well. Smith is also no where close to the overall talent Acuna was at the time as a true 40/40 guy. 8 years and $100M would be a good starting point for negotations with Smith this offseason.

I agree Smith is not where a player like Acuna was at this age and I don't think he has the same tools.

My point was and is that based upon this roster and who the Astros can legitimately can put in the outfield on a nightly basis I don't see how they really have any other choice and the idea they should have kept him in the minors simply for another season of control is off base.

I am not sure I am ready for Brown to mirror the Red Sox and sign Smith now to a longer deal, heck, we haven't even see how he reacts and adjusts one teams start coming up with a plan to attack his swing and approach at the plate.
