It was 110-105 Detroit with about 3 minutes left, Detroit had the ball and all the momentum and the Knicks were clearly tired and JBB...inexplicably calls a timeout (and I think Cade had a wide open lane at that possession) - and Detroit turned it over on their immediate possession ATO.

After that TO, the Knicks outscored the Pistons 11-3 the rest of the game.

Classic JBB.   He's a guy who can get the team to play hard but he will never, ever, ever, be an elite or championship coach.  Just baffling in-game decisions that I saw the last four years and was on display this whole series.

To be clear both of these teams have levels that they need to ascend to become true championship contenders. Like fucking levels. When you lock in and watch Championship level teams playing at Championship levels in the finals, it looks nothing like this series. I'm paying more attention to the Detroit side of things but it's certainly true for NY, also or they would have won this series in 4 or 5 games with their talent level and experience compared to Detroit's. You cannot just lose people repeatedly on defense and be expected to be a championship contender. You cannot repeatedly not box out and give up uncontested put backs. To your point, you cannot make terrible challenges that have a low chance of success.

Long way of saying if Boston is healthy I think they will roll NY and JBB is fine for now. I'm not sure he's a guy that takes you over the finish line but he's done a great job with the current bunch. I see no reason to change coaches.

Dumb. Beasley is one of 4 players not named Steph to ever make 300+ threes in a season. Cade was 0-8 on threes for the game, and it would have been an off-balance, contested attempt. Malik had already made 6, and it would have been a wide open look. That was absolute the right play.

It was the right play but in retrospect it would have been better to have Cade miss it so that he can go full Rocky montage this offseason.

Nothing substantial will change with Luka's defense. They just have to fill out the roster correctly to minimize the issue.

Yeah kinda the same deal as my childhood hero Magic who was not exactly a defensive wizard. He did try harder though on that end than Luka. You put someone out there with him that can defend and runs the floor baseline to baseline. I am 100 percent fine with Luka not ever being better than mediocre to average at defense. His talent of controlling the pace on the other end is unmatched by any other point guard in the NBA. The Wolves and most any other team besides Memphis were going to beat the Purple and Gold this year once we completely vacated the center position by rescinding the trade for Williams.

Beas is their 6th man. He comes in cold shooting like a lunatic every game. But yeah watch the play, double is converging on Cade and Beasley is wide open. Wide open. Hit him in the shooter's pocket and the ball just bounced off his hands out of bounds.

Watching the presser now. Malik is a stand up dude. Also says in 9 years this is the most fun he's ever had. I live in Detroit. If you're having fun here in February and March, I admire you.

He hadnt made one since the first half though.   I dont have a real issue with Cade passing to a wide open guy but Beasley didnt do a thing in the 2nd half.

Detroit's best and only 3 options in that situation are Beasley, Cade and THJR. Getting Beasley and open shot was by far, like really far, the best option given the way the other two were shooting tonight. I'm just saying if I had known in advance they weren't going to make the shot, Cade is the guy I want thinking about it all off-season if I'm the Pistons.

I'm sure someone has already mentioned, but that "Brunson Burner". sure reminded me of MJ's shot that won the whole thing against Utah.

Somebody who is a magician with the internets should mash up the two.  Of course Brunson's was much further out than MJ's but they sure resemble each other, at least to me.

His name could be it. I just do not recall hearing that name as often as now. I guess it's like people naming their child Kobe. That was another name I never heard until he got to the NBA.

He’s an idiot. Called himself the best shooter ever and Thompson the best defender in the game in that presser. Him fumbling the ball on the last play couldn’t have happened to a better player. I was hoping Detroit would force game 7 tho.

He says his mother made up the name from his uncles' names James and Leonard.    I doubt that he was truly the first Jalen but he was definitely the first to be in the public eye

Man, fuck the NBA and NHL schedulers right in the ass. Only 1 NBA game and only 1 NHL game on Saturday. Nuggets and Avs are both game 7s and they are on at the same fucking time.

From what I understand, OKC's second round schedule is dependent on whether Houston and GS go 6 games or 7.  OKC has been done for almost a week yet they still haven't played game 6.  Glad they got to rest and play every three days, though.

NBA playoffs scheduling is fucking dumb. It should be every East series plays a game, then West the next night, repeat until they are all done. 14 days max for round 1, and 1 day off between every game. Adjust times as needed to maximize TV value each day.

Yuck. A full day/night of non-conference championship Eastern conference basketball every other day? Until/if a series reaches 7 games, a lot of people will just plan to occasionally score check that day and not bother watching. I'll tune into the 4th quarter of a Pacers/Bucks game because I know that the Lakers and TWolves are up next. And you want the late Eastern conference game to tip off at 10PM local?

They are not going to have 4 games on weeknights.   They try to make sure as many games as possible have exclusive windows.  If some series end early they will have nights where there will be only one game.   They dont change game schedules once everything starts.   This is mainly for the first round anyway.   They is a much better cadence when the 2nd round starts

I saw but that is pretty rare in the 1st round.   I'm willing to bet there was some sort of venue conflict that caused that.

Reversing the rotation of the earth in April and May would really help things out. Western conference games should really be on first.

Idk, but they did have to start the MIL-IND game so early.  It was definitely rare, but a good weeknight

My understanding is that NBA playoffs take precedent for the venue.

Zach Lowe is the best in the business and it isn't close. The Ringer effectively swapping Kevin O'Connor for Zach Lowe is like replacing Charlie Strong with Nick Saban. Mahoney is also very good.

Russillo bums me out on a human level, but the Sunday show with Simmons is very good in the context of the broader NBA media-sphere. I hope Bill does something with Lowe on a weekly basis.

Just popped into to say Zach Lowe is a fucking hack.

Dude claims "Hey I'm' just doing an unbiased poll" while at the same fucking time INFLUENCING the Poll and promoting it in a way that the voters follow along with it cause hey, if this poll is right then they must be the MVP.

It's why he's post December poll has been basically 100% right every year now. The dude clearly influences the poll and talks about it non stop so he's basically become the one picking the MVP every year.

It's his constant lies that he's not influencing the MVP with a Poll that literally affects the outcome.

No one has a fucking clue what you're talking about. What poll? If there's a poll that he does regularly, I sure as shit haven't seen it. Doesn't really seem like his deal. Dude even surrended his vote for NBA awards because he didn't feel right about affecting players' contracts.

I'm calling bullshit on that.  I've sprained my MCL.  You're not coming back in to play basketball after that happens.

He always releases some bullshit after he gets eliminated in the playoffs.  When the Nuggets swept them in 2023 he was talking about retirement in the locker room just to change the narrative about his team losing.

So I looked on basketball-reference last night and Rose was the league’s first Jalen. The next one was Jaylen Brown in 2017 and the first Jalen spelled the same way as his was Brunson in 2019. There have been quite a few players with either name over the last 8 years. Before that it had just been Rose.

Most players who have injuries won’t speak much about them while still playing because guys will go after you when they know you have a specific injury. I don’t really care whether he was injured or not. The season is done either way so seeing someone talk about an injury when they are done seems to be fairly normal to me across all sports.

OKC played 4 games in 6 days.  Meanwhile, GS/Houston took almost two weeks to play 6 games.

If GS/Houston go to Game 7, the Eastern Conference semis will have already started.

They need to speed these things up.

The SSA has a webpage where you can see the popularity of any name going back to like 1900. If the name doesnt show up, it means it was not in the top 1000 names for any year. In Jalen's case, I think you can make the case that he might in fact be responsible for the sudden name popularity. Prior to 1992, it was never in the top 1000. In 1992 (second of the fab 5 final fours) it shows up all of the sudden at #378. I guess it could be a coincidence, but I bet not. Fab 5 was a big media story.

THJ, Schroder, and Beasley will be FAs but each of them are pretty replaceable.  It's 26-27 when things get pretty expensive for Detroit - Duren will for sure get a big extension and Ivey was playing well before he went down with his injury.  If Ivey has a good year in 25-26, he too will get huge $$$.
