He's never been the same after numerous injuries.

It probably wasn’t intentionally set up like this, but the A&M game and Wisner’s performance likely removed all doubt (I.e., couldn’t make excuses that it was because of the line, defensive performance, Arch not being respected as a passer, etc.)

You think there’s more to it than he wants more money than we’re willing to commit to him?  I think 99% of the time we’re going to see portaling being about a) NIL commitments and b) playing time.

He is made of glass my dude. He cant get to 150 carries if he wanted to.

IT posted some more portal/NFL notes this morning:

-Expect Tre Wisner back at this time. Simon and Clark are expected to return but not a 100% lock.

-Most likely Jaime Ffrench will be back. Aaron Butler is likely gone. "We’re interested to see how DeAndre Moore’s agent plays his hand."

-Would be surprised if Will Randle returned

-Expecting Trevor Goosby back at this time

-"Very likely" Hero Kanu will return. Watching Melvin Hills for a potential exit.

-At corner, they are watching Wardell Mack, Kobe Black, Santana Wilson and Caleb Chester

-"We believe it’s increasingly likely Jelani McDonald will return"

- Derek Williams and Johnson-Rubell are the two safeties they are monitoring

I thought butler was gonna be a dude when he committed

We never saw the full Baxter. He got injured very early on, then seriously injured. RB’s take two years to come back from serious knee injuries. I would not be surprised if he performs very well next year somewhere else, but Texas just can’t roll the dice again next year on him. It would be a waste of money.

Baxter got hurt early on, not injured. He never figured out the difference, and that's also part of why he's gone.

I think rumor was Franklin and Va Tech.

That would be a good fit and help Franklin in year 1 but Oregon, Alabama , LSU, and Miami are likely looking for new QBs next year.

I think Wisner is back and Baxter entering the portal is an indication that those carries you are talking about wont be there because Wisner is going to be eating them up.

Until we bring a better RB in from the portal and those carries go right away again

Baxter isn’t the same player anymore. He isn’t in the plans anymore for Texas.

Alabama has Russel waiting behind Simpson. I doubt they bring in another QB to start unless they are fine losing him. LSU you have to think Kiffin brings his guy from Ole Miss.

Has DeBoer ever started a freshman QB? At Fresno he had Jake Haener who played his 5th and 6th years of college under DeBoer. Then at Washington he had Penix who played his 5th and 6th years under DeBoer. Then at Bama he's had 4th year Milroe and 4th year Simpson.

Tennessee needs another one-year rental. They have a gangly freshman they like who redshirted this year and still needs to bulk up, and an incoming 5 star. The natives are starting to get restless in Knoxville so Leavitt would be a good fit there in the veer and shoot.

Its Awesome that the coaches likely know how rife with raw sewage the OL room is, so almost any move they make will likely be an auto improvement

DeBoer is in a tough spot, assuming their playoff run is short lived the natives seem to be getting pretty restless there. If he doesn’t deliver (to their insane expectations) his seat is going to get pretty uncomfortable. I’d be surprised if he goes all in with a freshman.

They also have Austin Mack who DeBoer chose over Julian Sayin.

Austin Mack is a JAG and everyone at Alabama knows it. They went all in to recruit Russell. They may choose to sign a veteran but if they do Keelon is gone.

Not trying to be a dick, but why would such a seasoned LT come here when Texas has Goosby entrenched at LT? If it's to be the other bookend, doesn't Baker have that tied up? If Atkins is entering the transfer portal, he has to be looking to go somewhere to be an instant starter.

The only reason would be is if he sees himself in the NFL as a guard. This seems very unlikely to be about us.

I guess every OL entering the portal is going to have multiple posts here salivating over the player, irrespective of whether anyone knows a fucking thing about his competence and capabilities. So we have that going for us, which is nice.

Nah be a dick, people just post random players here that have absolutely no reason to come to Texas or ties to us/the coaches which we've seen has a strong correlation to who we end up with. Can't wait till people start posting the Toledo WR's again.

As I recall, Sayin left pretty soon after Saban retired and he and Deboer only overlapped by a week.  Think Saban's departure had more to do with it than Deboer picking the current guy over him.  Arch to Texas solidified Sayin to Bama IIRC, otherwise he may have ended up here or UGA.

KJ Lacy to Texas left them going after Russell.  I was hoping we had waited on Russell personally, hes much bigger.  Time will tell on both of course.  I agree with the above comments that Russell being the incumbent will be risky busiess for Deboer in a pivotal year for Bama.  I could see them going strong in the portal at QB and letting the Russell story play out.  The risk there is they go in the portal, Russell leaves and they sustain an injury or mis-eval in the portal.  Texas with Arch, Lacy and Bell appears to be a more solid plan.  Dont know Bama's roster as well, but next year will be an interesting one.

Haven’t we learned anything about trying to move tackles to guard?!??

if a player can move, he can move. There is no law which states that you can’t be 6’5” and play guard.

Deboer straight up told Sayin that he wasn't the kind of QB that performed well in his system. He brought Mack with him and sent Sayin packing. Those were like 2 of his first moves.

people need to read this, then read it again, then read it a third time - a lot has been written about Baxter and it is true insofar as he is an outstanding worker, person, teammate, etc.  But what CTJ wrote isn't usually included in the gushing, and it is absolutely true and need to be understood as part of the bigger picture.

Didn't do Burnt Ends and IDK what his deal is. Guy was always a potato with us and never any fun, nor did he look like he got along with the rest of the guys.

He got "hurt" and decided to opt-out when it was clear they weren't gonna go to the playoffs it seemed. Seems like a really ego driven guy who has some potential, but who knows?

Baxter is a year 4 player with a busted knee and a shaken confidence. If he goes to West Virginia or South Florida and has a rebirth on the field, awesome. Texas doesn't have room at the inn for rehab projects in this cycle. Up or out.

IDK, but it would seem to me that Baxter would be invited to stay and play a whatever or significantly diminished role, but wouldn't get anywhere near the compensation or playing time or focus he would get from moving on. This one is a shitty one in the new world because I feel like he did a great job being a leader and a positive voice/example in the locker room.

Deboer may not live that one down.  He seems like a great kid with a big future, Mack-Russell battle  will be interesting if they can keep both.  I like our room the way its laid out, hopefully we can spread them out aok.  Id like to see what Lacy can do vs Michigan.

Sun devils had Josh Atkins listed as a redshirt senior. I know he is entering the portal, but did he play in more than 4 games this year?

Didn’t play a down in 21 or 22. Played full seasons 23-25. I still don’t understand what the Covid redshirt applies for. This shit is done after next season finally, yes?

The thing about Lacey that's concerning is how diminutive he is. It's not like they didn't know that in recruiting, but now it's suddenly the "but" part of anything said about the guy. Great arm, knows the game, mobile, good leadership skills, can allegedly read a defense pretty well, but he's Herve Villechaize in stature. Can he sit on a tall TE or OT's shoulders and take snaps?
