Probably because they want the parents to describe the PJs?

My cousin and I "found" a toddler once in Port A. We got to our rental late, get unpacked and get the house set up because everyone else is arriving the next day, and go to bed. My cousin comes in my room and wakes me up at like 2:00 AM because she thinks she hears a baby crying right outside. We go out, and sure enough there's a little toddler wandering around all by itself crying. My cousin ran down and tried to console him and I called 911, then went walking around the general area hoping I'd run into someone frantically looking for their kid. Didn't find anyone, but did see a house with the front door wide open. I hung out and waited for the cop to show up, because no way was I walking up to a strange house with an open front door at 2:00 AM. Cop arrives and I explain what's going on. He calls for backup, because he's not walking into that house either. Backup finally arrives, and they go bang on the door frame "Hello! Anyone home? Police department!" They finally roust the family and mom freaks out crying and comes running down to get the kid. No one got in trouble, but of course the cops had to search the house, etc. One of the cops was taking my statement for the report and told me this happens more often than you'd think. Families come down and don't think about babyproofing their rental. Kid wakes up in an unfamiliar environment, gets up and starts walking around looking for mom and dad, and ends up walking outside and gets turned around and can't find their way back home.

A few weeks ago my wife and I were coming home and noticed a young girl walking down the street by herself, maybe 5 or 6 years old.

We turned back around and by the time we reached her she was another several hundred yards down the road, no one in sight. We pulled over, shut off the car, got out and tried to talk to her, figuring out what’s going on. She didn’t know her last name, her parent’s name, her address, where she came from, nothing. She didn’t know whether she had brothers or sisters or a dad. She gave conflicting answers. it was crazy.

She wanted to get in our car! But we said oh hell no. I called police. They came out within about 15 minutes. As I prepared for the police officer to shoot me, neighbors were driving by whispering about our abduction of a child.

After the officer also struck out asking her questions I got the bright idea to post the situation and her first name on Facebook. Within 10 minutes I think we had a thousand houses in the neighborhood trying to figure out who she was. I got contacted by the PTA. Nuts.

We finally left her with the police officer. When we drove back by an hour later we ran into the cop and he said the parents were at dinner when their Facebook blew up with info about their daughter. They rushed back home. Babysitter had their head up their ass and hadn’t noticed she slipped out and was gone.

Well, if PornHub has taught me anything, it's that babysitters get distracted.

When I was one or so my parents once left me in the booth at a Casa Ole. Waitress flagged them down as they were walking out and was like I think you forgot something.

I know a girl who when her family was on vacation got left at a truck stop when she was like 12.  They had a van and it was a late stop to get gas and go to the bathroom. This is before cell phones and they got like 20 miles down the road and one of the other kids goes, where’s Kara?  Turned around and picked up their kid waiting in her PJ’s at the truck stop.

my dad accidentally left my sister in a liquor store in Reynosa when she was 3. we were traveling with Mexican friends in two cars (celebrating a quinceanera), i was in the first car with my mom, she assumed my sister was with the guys in the second car...she couldn't see my sister's head/silhouette so she made everybody pull over shortly after we crossed back over the border, and sure enough dad thought she was in our car. she was in nobody's car lol.

back across, screech up to the store... sister is inside, sitting on the counter, eating some candy the proprietor gave her, completely unfazed.

i don't think my mom spoke to my dad for a week.

The man you wanna talk to would be my cousin Earl. He lives out on route 13. That's probably his son, they call him Earl Junior, which I think is pretty clever as he is Earl's son.

So follow-up, I called 911 later that morning because they said "please contact 911 if you have any information" and I told them "thanks for letting me know, but my kids are accounted for and are pre-teens anyways."  They weren't happy about that call (guess they were upset they still didn't have any info, I dunno) and kind of vaguely threatened me for calling 911 with that info, so I decided not to spout off some Dead Milkmen lyrics at them.

Anyways, apparently APD uses 911 to reverse-call everybody within a few miles when something like this happens, but my wife didn't get the call (and her phone and my share an account).

Was wondering what the follow-up to that was, but the area where the kid was at is Tarrytown, so yeah, there will be no follow-ups.

You should have just told them you drive a bitchin' Camaro, and 911 is a joke in their town.
