Duncan Robinson to the Pistons

Zach Lowe thinks Bron is looking for a buyout. That would be some wild shit.

Bro sees OKC as the defending champs and Hou and DEN upgrading their rosters and they can’t even find a center.

Lakers must not want Ayton (and I wouldn't blame them).  Can't think of another starter at C who is still available.

Didn't he just sign a 1 year deal with them? Wtf. Why wouldn't he just not sign the damn deal? I saw Cavs, Knicks, Mavs and Warriors as most likely landing spots should there a be a breakup by my buddy a Lakers fan.

Al Horford, Chris Boucher, Precious Achiuwa. Definitely getting into role player territory.

He opted in to his player option.  He might see this as a way to double dip and get an extra $20 million or so.

If it was only that simple. Lowe’s LeBron expert thinks he wants to maximize his earnings in his remaining season. So a buyout + another contract. Allegedly Bron thinks the league owes him after he took less money a couple times.

It sounds like Lowe ultimately thinks he stays, but he wants to nudge the Lakers into win now mode again and stop their efforts to save money to build around Luka.

Sounds like there’a some friction between Bron/Rich Paul and Pelinka. Pelinka might actually want to be a real GM.

Yes. I saw something about a dinner party where he was heard saying Savannah wants him to retire next year.  He doesn’t want to sit on a middling play-in team his last year (or two).

If the Lakers bought him out then he went elsewhere he could make the same amount of money or something similar while saving his new team cap space.

Damn, that's all pretty fucked up on Lebron. It's one thing to want an extra $20M out the door when that's something like 20% of your career earnings. For him to be a billionaire and want to rob his team on the way out of 2% of his net worth, that's wild. More of an self-centered asshole than I thought.

Ah, ztejas what you're saying makes sense. Make the Lakers pay so his next team is in a better situation.

Zach Lowe is looking for clicks.

Zach Lowe isn’t a click baiter. He does have a lot of trust in his sources though who can be wrong quite a bit

Saying he wants a buyout is click-batiy.   If you want to say he is prepping/angling for a trade, ok.   Saying he is looking for a buyout is stupid and purposely done to make him seem greedy.

You won't get much in return for Lebron.  He'll make sure he's goign to a contender.

maybe don’t give lebron $50M.

He opted in.  It wasn’t their choice.  But they clearly told him if you don’t opt in we aren’t signing you to a 2 year deal.  That’s why Rich Paul floated the “Le Bron is moni advantage of The Lakers moves.”  He wanted a 2 year deal and the new Lakers regime said get fucked.  LBJ honestly thinks he has the leverage  he had 10 years ago.  The Lakers would’ve been delighted if he didn’t re-sign.  But it may be ideal he opts in and gets someone like Cleveland, with assets and so close to being championship caliber, that may be willing to deal.  The Lakers wouldn’t need too much.  One first would be enough.  It would be a shitty pick.  It’s just how do you make the money work?

Ayton is apparently a cancer.  I hated him at UofA, so fuck him.  But we can’t sign some reclamation project hoping that will be the difference.  Ayton isn’t going to put the Lakers in contention

If he didn’t opt in I don’t believe the lakers would’ve gotten his salary in cap space.  Maybe a capologist can explain

his life is here in LA.  Youngest son is going to Arizona.  IMO he stays but would love for him to go.

Yeah, I've never liked Ayton and don't want him on the Nuggets, for sure.

No they would immediately get that cap space as soon as they renounce his rights and/or he signs elsewhere.

They are 30M over the cap currently so they would only have about 20M to use not his full 50.   More teams are taking the path of guys opting in or otherwise making sure they are under contract and then trading them.   This way they can get the full value.     I highly doubt the Lakers didnt want him to opt in whether the plan going forward is to have him on the team or not.

Correct he was never not picking it up unless it was so they could extend him.

Just answering how it works.

Veneers arent cheap to a normal person.   Having to garnish a NBA players salary to pay for dental work is fucking insane

He might have owed money to the wrong people, if you get my drift.

Yep, I actually got why they wanted to move on from Thibs, as he always hit his ceiling below what the team expects to accomplish and his approach leaves the team with no juice at the end of their run. But replacing him with Brown does nothing. Not even sure it's a lateral move. They struck out on getting approval to speak to a handful of coaches when their season ended. Jason Kidd being one of them. That told me they were getting desperate if they wanted to speak to Kidd.

Would have thought Malone would be better than Brown but I don’t even recall there being discussions between the 2 parties.

I’m getting the sense that the Knicks are drifting back to being a poorly run organization.  I’m sure we’re all surprised that it’s not Isiah Thomas back as coach.

Or Billups. Or Hardy. Or any number of promising assistants.

Maybe a lot of guys just didn't want the job.
