Texas Passing Game 2025 - Personnel & Production - Jaggy McJaggerson FTW?

Recommended Posts

Posted

The Texas offense of 2024 produced 357 receptions across 16 games for 4,460 yards and 40 TDs. 12.5 YPC is middling (45th) and 279 YPG is solid (14th).

Here are the individual receiving stats from last year (Receptions/Yards/YPR/TDs):

1) Gunnar Helm - 60/786/13.1/7

2) Matthew Golden - 58/987/17.0/9

3) Tre Wisner - 44/311/7.1/1

4) Jaydon Blue - 42/368/8.8/6

5) DeAndre Moore - 39/456/11.7/7

6) Isaiah Bond - 34/540/15.9/5

7) Ryan Wingo - 29/472/16.3/2

8 ) Silas Bolden - 23/267/11.3/1

9) Juan Davis - 9/54/6.0/0

10) Johntay Cook - 8/137/17.1/2

11) Amari Niblack - 5/33/6.6/0

12) Jerrick Gibson - 3/25/8.3/0

13) Ryan Niblett - 3/24/8.0/0

Bold is returning. 118 catches/1,288 yards/10.9/10.

We know Sarkisian loves to throw to backs and TEs as part of the passing game. We know that last year wasn't the best showing for a receiving corps under Sarkisian. We know that many here believe that the passing game this year, with Manning at the helm, will be more productive than last season.

So, put some numbers to it. All of the shittalkers about Jaggy McJaggerson having a big year can now let the rest of us know what they really believe. I've listed the eligible WRs, TEs, and TBs on the roster for 2025 below, with my thoughts on production.

QB - I'm betting on 17 games, 5,200 yards and 45 TDs for the QB room. That's all divvied up below.

WR:

-DeAndre Moore - 48/570/11.9/5

-Ryan Wingo - 60/1,200/20.0/11

-Emmett Mosley - 40/550/13.8/6

-Jaggy McJaggerson - 9/145/16.1/1

-Kaliq Lockett - 24/460/19.2/4

-Daylan McCutcheon - 14/210/15.0/1

-Jamie Ffrench - 20/350/17.5/4

-Michael Terry - 0/0/0/0

-Aaron Butler - 0/0/0/0

-Ryan Niblett - 0/0/0/0

215/3,485/6.2/32

TE:

-Jack Endries - 50/600/12.0/6

-Jordan Washington - 14/195/13.9/1

-Spencer Shannon - 0/0/0/0

-Will Randle - 0/0/0/0

-Emaree Winston - 5/55/11.0/0

-Nick Townsend - 8/120/15.0/1

77/970/12.6/8

RB:

-Tre Wisner - 37/333/9.0//2

-Cedric Baxter - 20/240/12.0/2

-Jerrick Gibson - 13/91/7.0/0

-Christian Clark - 9/81/9.0/1

-James Simon - 0/0/0/0

-Rickey Stewart - 0/0/0/0

79/745/9.4/5

I see a big year for Wingo and diminishing snaps as the seasons wears on for Moore due to drops and the freshmen gaining traction. RBs are going to be occasionally banged up, so plenty of touches for the top 4. Maybe the freshmen TEs also show flashes while the Endries fella is a very good. I expect almost nothing from Terry as a freshman, and Butler will remain in the doghouse while Niblett continues to have one foot out the door.

Anyone else want to take a shot at the numbers or offer their thoughts?

What, we don't like white possession receivers with a porn 'stache 'round here?

-The freshman receivers combining for 58 catches and 9 touchdowns feels a little aggressive. Maybe one of them ends up with 20 or more catches, but I have a tough time seeing two. I'd probably take away some of their catches and yards and add them to Mosley.

-Moore's catches and yards seem about right, but I think he has more touchdowns (7 last year on 39 catches)

-Can we get Will Randle a catch against UTEP for being Arch's friend? Maybe McJaggerson can hit him on a trick play pass?

Especially if he blocks downfield and makes a few clutch catches to move the chains. Maybe he'll grow into a TE?

I do think it is more entertaining when someone doesn't get the joke, than when they do.

The thing about Lockett and Ffrench is, if you're going to pay what Texas is paying to land them on the roster, you're not going to let those assets collect dust and then hit the portal. They're being paid like starters because the staff thinks they're going to be starters, ultimately. I expect them to get plenty of touches against weak opponents and in garbage time, and then at least one will get serious action as time goes by or as injuries occur, or both.

I'm personally not a big fan of Moore. He had too many whiffs or drops last year and then he held a gun to the program's head late in the December portal. Maybe he has a great year, but I'm fine if he doesn't.

Goose eggs for Niblett is interesting. Are they just not going to play him? We don't really have anyone else in that K Robinson/Blue role.

My view is that, if they really valued Niblett in that role, he wouldn't have been worked in the secondary during the spring. It's not like depth was an issue at Star or Safety. I don't expect him to play much outside of special teams.

My prediction is that this is a contract year for him and he'll have more catches than Wingo.

I'll also take the over on 371 team receptions.   It's kind of hard to gauge how much time the 2nd string (or worse) will get, difference in play styles (Arch is more likely to tuck and run, Quinn incurring negative plays often enough to force obvious passing downs), schedule, etc., but Arch with Quinn's snaps plus his own prorate to 376.

If Arch is so good, why didn't he account for more of those QB yards last year, huh? Huh?!?!?

Love the post. If Wingo pops, this year is going to be so much fun. I feel like Mosley is going to be a pain in the ass for other teams when you have to account for all the others. His tape was impressive for a freshman.

Point of order: All good passing games involve the backs.

Posted

1. Wingo will lead the team in Touchdown receptions.

2. Moore will lead in yards and catches.

3. Stanford kid and Parker will have around the same numbers. 20-25 catches with 4 TD

4. If CB4 gets truly healthy they catches and touchdowns for the RB jump. He has the best hands of all the running backs.

5. Cal kid - 8 Touchdowns

We won’t have a guy over 1000 yards

will be fun to revisit this in December

Wisner had a thousand yards last year by running for only what his blocking provided -- never really creating any plays beyond that. He'll be better this year but who knows by how much. If he gets 190 carries this season he'll hit a thousand again. But it doesn't feel like we have anyone in the backfield who can bust something wide open, like what Blue did against Clemson. And that kind of sucks.

Those duties will fall to Arch Manning.

That’s not what I saw at all, Chalky. The dude ran hard all year. Ran through a ton of contact and made guys miss on his own. Sounds like you missed a good season. Here are some highlights.

I mostly just hate white skill position players. Otherwise, I mostly love whitey, being one and all. And others, most others. Not midgets, hillbillies, okies, or pinkos, of course, but most others.

Yeah, I witnessed that. I'm just not convinced he's an elite back. He averaged less than 3 yds a carry in 3 of 4 of the last games. Those are good defenses. But he was pointless in those games. And lots of people ran well against Clemson. Last year he was generally as good as the blocking provided. If you want to luxuriate in your sunshine enema on the guy, great. High five for your positivity. Shiny happy people.

Who said he needs to be elite?  He's a good enough lead back for a Title Contender and he proved that last year.

Especially after Ewers came back from injury and we basically had to ride the ground and pound with Wisner to salt away games late.

The fact that you think he only runs if's blocks was a silly take, and seeing the evidence it was and doubling down is even sillier.

If the only two options are elite or never gain a yard that wasn’t blocked - then someone explain Kevin Costner’s career to me.

Well he was friends with Augie Garrido, so he had good vibes pulling him along.

CTJ is intimidated by his raw sexuality. Baby Alan Jackson is getting 750 yds and 10 tds this season.
