How do you think Tech would fare against tOSU, Georgia, AM, Vandy and Oklahoma if Tech had played them at the dates Texas did?

He hasn't answered that yet.

I think maybe they beat ousux or aggy (but not both).

NYT model with Texas having a 5% chance of making the playoffs (Miami at 1%, Vandy lower).
That seems low for Miami to me and about right for Texas.

So what's the 5%? Georgia beats Alabama and Alabama gets left out? Committee says fuck Ole Miss? Someone finally realizes Notre Dame's best win is... uh.. USC I guess?

Texas has already beaten three of the teams that these people want to rank ahead of Texas, and two of the losses are from ranked teams.

Be honest with yourself, if Tech had played those five teams (Ohio State, Georgia, aggy, Vandy, and ousux) would it have fared better than 3-2? Try the same thought experiment with BYU, ND (we already know they can't beat aggy), and Miami.

As far as any hypothetical matchup directly between Tech and Texas, feel free to disagree but you look ridiculous in the process.

I don't know who you think you're talking to. I think Texas should be higher ranked and should be in. I'm only pushing back on the notion that you'd be favored by double digits or whatever and beat us by 20+. You want to talk about matchups and yet you want to delude yourself into believe that your objectively below average O-line would roll over our objectively very very good front 7. It's just not happening. There is no analyst or objective metric out there that would agree with you on that take.

I think it would be a great game and I wish it could happen.

You guys beating aggy was the easiest pick I've made all year in the office pool. They had played a terrible schedule up to that point, and it was even an inflated one considering the handful of SEC teams on their schedule that lingered around in the rankings that absolutely did not belong there.

You played OU in Mateer's first game back, when he was clearly still injured, before Venables took over defensive playcalling, etc. That's neither here nor there, because y'all whipped their asses, but I've been saying all year that they fucking suck and so does Alabama, and they're clearly getting far too much credit for that win. It is what it is.

Vandy has been a paper tiger all year, they've gotten washed by the two competent teams they've played this year. That was the second easiest pick I've made all year.

I've also said all along that the Ohio State loss shouldn't count at all, and the Georgia game was just one of those games. They're locked in, it is what it is.

I may have missed it, but where are the Tech fans saying that the Horns don’t have a case?

I think Tech fans are pushing back against the anti- Big12 narrative but not against the Horns. We’d like to see Texas get the nod over other at large teams named ND and Miami

Notre Dame is very good at running up the score against terrible teams. That's more or less what they've needed to do to make their case to the committee.

They aren’t going to give it up,  but there is Zero reason for the CFP to rank these teams before the final rankings.

Stop with the Tuesday rankbation throughout the season.

Just make int one amazing Gooning session of edging and edging until they finally can’t hold it and then release the 1-12 rankings primetime Tuesday after the conference championship

Texas enters the week at 12 or 13 ahead of Utah and Vandy. BYU and Bama get decimated. Ohio State wins big. The voters look around and say hey- we all know Texas is a top 10 or 12 team. They lost close at #1 and were in a 1 score game in the 4th quarter at #2. They’ve beaten 3 quality teams more than anyone else can say. TV loves them. We want to reward tough non conference schedules. Fuck it- let’s put them in- nobody else can clearly say they deserve it more (of the last couple teams being looked at for the final spot).
not likely but there’s your 5% chance. It wasn’t likely they’d leave FSU out after going undefeated and winning 3 games without their starting QB. But they did.

You think the CFP committee is gonna rank Texas ahead of vandy and byu? I’d love that but think it’s gonna look exactly the same as the ap poll and we will be 14th.

Vandy and Utah.

I could see it happening. The CFP is a bit more rational than the AP or coaches.

Dont have to be ahead of BYU. In that scenario they lose big to Tech and eliminate themselves. Have to be ahead of Utah, Vandy and Miami. I think we could jump Miami if there’s enough chaos that they are forced to do a rethink of everything. Not super likely, but possible. Miami is a bigger sticking point than Vandy to my way of thinking. That’s why it was interesting to me that the NYT had us at 5% and Miami at 1% (Vandy had zero chance).

Funny thing is advertisers love Texas playing OsU and drawing 18.3M viewers at height of game even more than the stupid college selection show. We need to play major hard ball behind the scenes and say if we are ranked behind shitty ass treats that we beat (Vandy) or that can’t win basically a G5 conference (Miami) then we are never playing up OOC again.

to be honest I think it is possible they will rank us 12 and give the old "total resume, see we aren't punishing them for tOSU loss, they would have been lower" knowing that it makes fuckall difference because we have to be 10 for anything to matter.

If they do that this Tuesday we have a chance. Monday #11 BYU stays ahead of us if they have a big loss. Then it becomes us and bama and Oklahoma and Miami and Domers for 3 spots. We likely to get left out?  Probably. But you can’t say now for sure.

yeah, we aren't getting in.  media contracts aren't gonna affect this decision made by the people in the room. this discussion now is what the committee actually values and what we could do in the future in the era of super conference unbalanced schedules.

We lost by a fuckton to 5. It wasn't a 3 point loss like Vandy had or Bama. It was 4 scores. That's why we dropped like a rock and as we've seen, the aggy win didn't really impress anyone, almost as if they thought it was going to happen.

And yet, as Sark correctly points out, if we'd played Syracuse instead of Ohio State, we'd be in.

I don't have a clue, to be honest. The only person I'm even aware is on the committee at the moment is the Utah AD, and that's only because the Baylor AD decided to make a spectacle of himself and it penetrated my "news I don't care about" bubble. I'm aware of some of the statements they've made but not who made them.

I don't think the answer can be none at all considering Disney is CFP's primary media partner, but who knows for sure.

Jacob Rodriguez is the new Dwayne Slay. Remember "meet Dwayne Slay?"  Then when we actually played, he couldn't stay within 10 yards of Billy Pittman because he was too slow.

I don't see why UVA would want Miami in. I also wonder if ND has any friends on the committee. It's a 2 loss team with a weak schedule, but it also has been smart enough to run up the score to try to deflect attention from the fact that they started the season 0-2.

I think you misunderstand me.  they have no requirement to put the 3 loss team(who didn't play in the conf champ game) at 10 in the last poll regardless of where they rank us in the previous poll.  they would just put us at 12 for appearances. they will talk about how they are giving us credit for the tOSU game(if ESPN asks) but, it's Bama OU ND.  H2H doesn't matter, SOS doesn't matter, getting beat in the conf champ game doesn't matter.  the only thing that matters is the 3rd loss.

Sark was right when he said since Florida he told the team every game was a playoff game from here on out.  he knew 3 losses and we were out because he knows how these guys all think.  they are all ex players, ex coaches, ex AD's and losses are BAD and they've all been fucked by being ranked below a team that has one fewer losses when they knew they were better.  you are what your record says you are.  our turn in the barrel.

Nah. Slay was completely 1 dimensional. All he would be able to do in 2025 is get kicked out of every game for targeting.

Rodriguez is not just the highest graded defender against the rush and the pass, he is the highest graded player in college football, period, according to PFF. Also a finalist for the Bednarik, Lott, Lombardi, and Butkus awards for what do they know.

Also, amusingly, I see/talk to Billy Pittman every week. He's a pretty decent poker player.
