the bolded was definitely not true for Baxter.  His biggest flaw was his poor contact balance and lack of toughness, which led to an inability to break tackles commensurate with his measurables.

Texas will be better at the RB position next year, undoubtedly.  I think it is extremely likely that Texas will be significantly better at RB next year.  I will fondly remember Wisner for what he did, but he was miscast as a lead back and Baxter was a miss.

Contact balance has been an issue for the Texas RB room for 2 years. Baxter had some moments as a freshman, but they were few and far between. Biggest issue for Baxter was the ability to stay healthy. He went out with a slight injury in his first game and it was not the only game.  Felt like he was never a 100%. It could just be bad luck, but it is hard to put faith in a RB that has trouble staying healthy. I hope for him it was just a case a bad luck and he can stay healthy and fulfill his potential at another school.

Jesus Christ our fans sometimes. Losing Wisner is not even close to a disaster. Everyone get a fucking hold of themselves.

I mean, yeah, if it's because of Baugh or some other known quantity RB1, then maybe it's ok.

But if it's for some incoming frosh, or because Wisner is discontent running behind a shit line, well that's something else.

The reporting is that Wisner asked for way, way more money than he's worth.

By the fall, these highlights will be three years old.  I am looking forward to what the weight room has done for him.

Sorry about Wisner, but, it's a brave new world.

https://hookemheadlines.com/this-g5-transfer-portal-rb-could-allow-texas-to-pivot-from-uf-s-jadan-baugh-cam-cook-quintrevion-wisner-01kddn2vn50a

Jacksonville State's Cam Cook, who was undoubtedly the best running back at the G5 level and probably a top 5 overall back in all of college football, recently became available.

Despite the rumors swirling about the Longhorns being locked-in on Florida's Jadan Baugh if he enters, Cook could completely cause Steve Sarkisian and Co. to forget about the SEC stud. Cook is much smaller than Baugh at 5'11", 200 lbs., but he has elite athleticism and patience at the line of scrimmage. Very few ball-carriers in football right now show the type of contact balance that Cook does on a consistent basis, which allows him to bounce off would-be tacklers left and right.

Before Jax St he was at TCU and didn’t do much of anything. So did he get better or did the competition get easier. Either way he isn’t a sure thing like most are making him out to be.

I loved Tre. He was an aggy and Sooner assassin.

That said I can also be very honest about why he was an aggy and Sooner assassin. Both of those defenses love to stunt, slant, twist etc (Venables in particular has a hard on for that stuff). Their gap integrity when doing all of that can be poor…particularly when you couple the scheme with very athletically but poorly disciplined free lancers like aggy Howell.

Sark and Tre carved that shit up.

Cooper will be better than Wisner and Baxter.  Good RBs can play as freshmen Mack.

How much does wingo make? If we think rb’s are a dime a dozen then wr’s can’t be that much different.

I happy to point to Wingo's flaws. His hands and route running, but you cannot watch him play and not see his upside. He would be scary, if he ever learned to play WR. He would get picked up immediately in the portal and paid.

This right here. If Tre had an elite talent, it was patience. He was great at finding holes that the defense left open against our zone blocking.

Thats a good trait, but I would still prefer our RB1 to have traits like “speed” and “strength”.

Sad to see him go, but let’s wish him well and find an upgrade.

seeing some top OL transfer in would be a huge relief

Hopefully, the day the portal opens, Sark effectively announces "Today is the day I settle all family business," throws down the gauntlet, and five OL, a badass WR, a badass RB, and a few Dallas Cowboy cheerleaders announce for Texas.

Pretty sure the Dallas cheerleaders possess a couple of qualities that are not required of Texas cheerleaders.

In his limited carries his freshman year before injury it was true. Again, more examples in just a few plays from that video than anything after that. He wasn't elite. But he was good. It is just ridiculous to say otherwise.

His patience and vision are great. He is a very good change of pace and third down back. And his vision let's him punish undisciplined defenses that are overly aggressive. But he isn't a complete enough back to warrant that kind of money. I hope he does well at his next team (unless it is aggy or OU sucks).

Wingo irritates the shit out of me at tines dropping easy passes, but damn if that motherfucker can't make some weirdly acrobatic catches out of nowhere, like that one handed catch in the EZ, or the over the shoulder catch.

I want him back because 1) I'm well acquainted with madness and suffering, and 2) you know he's gonna get better, even if it's just a smidge.

If you believe in things like advanced metrics (yards after contact, breakaway speed) people would realize we had the 16th best running back room in the SEC. It was time for an entire rebuild down to the studs.

It's the spring game that we don't have anymore.

Youngsters will be playing for playing time for next season.

I wonder if that was just a one time thing and Sark will bring it back? Just a glorified practice, no tackling, just seeing how players respond to adversity. See Lacey and Bell, our new outfitted, newly purchased RB's Kewan Lacy and Jadan Baugh, and see how Lockett, French, McCutcheon, Alan Jackson,Mosely and Wingo perform. See Washington, Townsend, Winston, and hopefully Endries murder. And mostly, I want to see how our brand new OL unit performs in the heat.

It's wishcasting, I know, but it was dumb af. Sark just seems different this year. Like, really fucking pissed. I think missing the CFP really fucked with him.

Damn.

Hope this means we've got a big incoming announcement at RB.

I would bet everything Sark and Jaluku have a plan. They aren't letting anyone walk without a plan, just like with PK and Muschamp. Just my opinion. Sark seems different this year. Like, missing the CFP really fucking irked him and he is finally cleaning house and getting his ducks in order. I like this Sark.

Bobby spouting off about the $1mm figure publicly without any context at all is kind of a bitch move, IMO. Just say the sides were pretty far apart and decided to go their separate ways and that’s that. Sometimes it really seems like Bobby takes some of this shit too personally.

They usually do just that. I'm glad he gave some details this time around, actually. OTF is usually very reticent to share those kinds of details about recruits, NIL, portal possibilities, guys considering the draft, etc. They seem to be really good about not scooping announcements and keeping most things under wraps. Sounds like Wisner's process was bitchmade, and now we get to see some of the details.

Insiders for a few weeks: "Texas needs a strong, sturdy, heavy duty SEC battering ram to truly complete for it all next year."

Insiders a few hours ago: "A smaller, shifty 200 pound back will be perfect!"

If he ever learned to play wr…what a hell of a statement. I get there’s a small sliver of upside to him but “we’re Texas” counts for rb but not wr? If we are going to magically pull out our wallets and completely fix the rb room then I don’t think it’s a stretch to tamper a wr to the portal that already knows how to play wr. I feel like I’m taking crazy pills saying we just need a wr1 that knows how to play wr. What a strange world.

What?

I like Tre "I murder aggy's and sooners for fun" Wisner, but outside of those two, he's below average at best. Great teammate, and he can't help his limitations, but we need two bell cow RB's. Guys that can give and take punishment. Whatever he was asking isn't worth it if he's in the portal, and Sark knows that. I'm OK with it. Whatever gets this team over the hump, even if we let a player walk that we all like.

The goal is to win a NC, not put our feelings into these guys that play for our team. They'll always be Longhorns, but they're already overpaid for what they haven't done coming out of HS. They're making more than almost literally most Americans who have worked their asses off to get where they are.

I didn't say those things. I have no idea if he does or doesn't, so I never said a word about it. All I've seen is in the past month is him firing coaches and adding better ones. PK and Akina were gone and the next day Muschamp was hired. Scott was fired and a week and a half later we hired the FL RB coach.

As for the the drinking issues, I don't know anything about that other than the past. If he fell off the wagon he seems to have gotten back on it. I've seen other posters say he did, but I personally have no idea and I'm not feeding into a rumor.
