Here are some things I’ve learned in the last week: - my daughter’s friend, and I’m close with her parents, evacuated to Rec Center 2nd floor. Once apparently safe, a counselor told the girls to say their last prayers. This caused girls to throw up and pee themselves. - our good friends’ daughter was saved by eastland and his pickup just before he took his last fateful run. Mom is super thankful and had a direct relationship with Dick including directly texting him. Dad is thankful but pissed. Seems similar to dynamic I’ve seen with a lot of couples. - Waldemar evacuated Happy Haven 1 and 2, the only buildings with campers anywhere close to Guadalupe, right after the first warning at about 1:25. Jeanne Stacy is the camp director there and personally got the girls, along with help from seasonal Mexican hires that apparently were awesome for them. Happy Havens got only 3 feet of water. Rest of Waldemar unharmed. Waldemar’s seasonal help grabbed all kayaks from riverbank. Stacy married into Eastland family, y’all need to look into her and why she left Mystic. I’ve heard stories why, and my experience with her has been nothing but great. - the house we were staying at 5 days before July 4th was about 10 houses away from the house in the Texas Monthly story. It got 4 feet of water. The owner had several homes behind it and told me he gave those up to first responders. A lot more rumors about lawsuits and anecdotes that I can’t verify and won’t post about.

Since the beginning of June the Astros are 2-7 when the opponent scores 5 runs or more. 22-5 when the Astros hold their oppoents under 5 runs. Offense was never the reason this team got on a hot streak. It was and has always been the pitching.

I was passing through a duty free, and I was kind of shocked at the watch prices. I would not normally consider buying there, but given the increase in tariffs, I am wondering if that isn't the best buying option now. I am not sure what I want to buy, I don't think I have the scratch for the Rolex that I want, but the prices are favorable I think versus retail in the US. And obviously in the right shop the selection is really good. I was at CDG which has quite the selection of watched.

Thankfully someone else was able to help her out today. Still planning for next weekend surge

Fun (albeit meaningless) group game between Germany and Sweden on FOX right now. Germany had a woman sent off for handling a ball on the goal line. Sweden converted the penalty to make it 3-1. All this before halftime. Sweden has a couple lookers of course.

A little late but what kind of tips? Just went through this a few months ago. I basically kept her within eyesight of someone at all times and used a shirt off of Amazon to keep her away from the incision until the stitches came out. She never bothered it once and only wore the cone of shame in the car on the way home from the vet. -
He’s your problem rn. Once he wins the primary, he potentially becomes my problem. DC is a transactional place.

Having a pleasant cup of coffee 1:50 before our flight departs. Walked in, did bag drop in 5 mins (have a checked bag because we schlepped a bunch of bbq to our family trip), nobody in TSA line…from getting off the rental shuttle to having. A cup of coffee, maybe 20 mins? Super easy. Of course, the girl is flying international out of terminal 4…and is already at HER gate. About as easy an airport experience as you can have.

LeBron also forced Westbrook onto the team over derozan. He also handpicked the hc. Fuck that old man. Please leave so we can use your salary on someone else -
Mark Twain never said this, but there’s no amount of evidence that would persuade you of that

We can retire 2032-ish. State and teacher pensions. Year 1 would net about 110k gross (and that's 100% joint and survivor option, and 2% cola on ERS, a new option). We.can easily live on that and not touch pre and post tax retirement savings. On track for 7 figures. We would be about 52. Kids would be in college (529s funded well, at least for in state tuition). So earlyish retirement is possible... That had been my plan. But we could also retire and come back and work and save another $4 to $10k a month, and just stash it to pay for future grandkids daycare, college, etc. Feels kinds selfish to check out when peak earnings hits. I think I want to work 20-30 hours per week, and my wife's could permanent sub from Oct to April. Would be nice to hit national parks April/May and September/October. Maybe Colorado rental in thw summer. I guess we will just have to see how we are feeling when the time comes. My mom has dementia and is in memory care ($6300/mo) so I would like to make sure we could afford that (plus maybe assisted living for the other) for 1 of us should we need it. Don't want to be a burden.

All right @G650, I'll do you one better. I'll argue in favor of what you're saying. And the reason I'm doing this is so that, instead of just going over the same points you've already repeated over and over that I already understand, you'll be able to take a step forward and see what I am trying to say. So here's Dave Mustaine playing with the San Diego Symphony. Now, I don't know about you, but it sounds like complete ass to me. It sounds like complete ass because of Everything Else. He's playing among instruments with massive and subtle dynamic range, among performers who have mastered that dynamic range. And on top of that, he's hitting notes out of tune that need to be bent into the right pitch. I don't think anyone's going to say that Mustaine is a bad guitarist, but in this environment, his skills are underdeveloped to the point of sounding amateurish. Why? Because he always only ever played or practiced his guitar with the gain cranked to metal levels. He doesn't have a lot of mis-hits in his playing, because that's how he practiced; but dynamics, tuning, subtlety... are completely absent. Again, because this is how he practiced. Until this concert, he never needed subtle dynamics, and being out of tune occasionally was acceptable for various reasons. But here? The guitar and symphony don't work together; it's jarring and painful to hear.

I haven’t heard of any of this prior to now. I wonder if all the transplants know about this, or if it just adds to the deepening of a certain in-group. my family were transplants in 1980.
