  1. Past hour
  2. I have posted this before but it is worth a repost. David Byrne and St. Vincent.
  3. If the logic is to abandon logic and reasoning, then you're playing into the fascists hands. What is "the message around trans as is" from the democrats? I understand it to be "they are human beings and deserve the same dignity and rights we all enjoy, because they're fucking human beings". I understand that it's not your position, but you really do seem to be recommending the democrats abandon that position to better attract the hateful youth vote
  4. I think it may be a better unit overall than last year.
  5. Question for all you lawyer types out there like @South Austin and @Lidig8r: How are text messages substantiated in court? Does there need to be some verification provided by the service provider? I could easily fake text messages to appear legit. Also, as is referenced in the affidavit, is it common for the police to be instructing someone what to text to ensnare a suspect? I know that was done with the Scott Peterson/Laci Peterson murder case in SF, where detectives instructed his mistress what to say when she called him (and they were secretly recording the calls). Not that I have situation similar to that. I didn't imply that at all.
  6. She knows what she did.
  7. RiP Ryne. Always respected his game but as an Astro fan was definitely more of a Biggio guy. BTW while comparing their careers I saw that both were not elected to the Hall until their 3rd year of eligibility. Baseball writers are the fucking worst.
  8. I've seen a few paid social media posts by this company recently. Sounds like a great idea to not toss sunglasses because the lens shattered or was scratched up. Assuming their replacement lens are decent quality.
  9. If I ranked where I have been so far (I have 6 left Seattle, Detroit, both LA, Mets, Miami) my list would probably go like this (I don't know all the stupid fucking names now since they change them): 1. Wrigley 2. PNC 3. SF Giants 4. Fenway 5. Petco 6. Camden 7. Coors 8. Cincinnati 9. Target Field 10. Busch 11. Progressive Field 12. Citizens Bank Park 13. Daikin Park 14. Kaufmann 15. Rogers Centre 16. Atlanta 17. Chase Field 18. Milwaukee 19. Texas 20. Yankees 21. Tropicana 22. Nationals Park 23. White Sox 24. Oakland
  10. Egalitarianism is a strong, motivating ideological force. Tens if not hundreds of millions of people in human history have fought for it and millions have died for it. Nobody is willing to fight and die for "Ok what we need is to pull 57% of white voters with college degrees, at least 85% of the black vote, at least 60% of the latino vote, and we checked the math and we want the gay vote but also the anti-trans vote" triangulating.
  11. Another reminder that Greg Abbott has failed as a decent human. I had forgotten that he was only in the job a few months when he decided to pander to these idiots.
  12. I’m about to be 52, I work in finance, and I live practically next door to Mo Willie, so I’ve decided I’m finally old and boring enough to play golf. Here’s where I’m at: I can’t hit a ball off the tee. I’ve played maybe 45 holes in my life, including a couple times around the Butler Pitch and putt. I have never played an 18 hole round. I’ve spent some time at the driving range in fits and starts, with no plan, getting worse with every ball. My goal is to break 100 by the end of the year. I took a lesson at Golf Galaxy last week to get feedback. Based on her assessment my balance, mobility, and strength are all far above average. My swing mechanics aren’t terrible, but my swing is super inconsistent and striking is a mess. Not great, but she gave me some clear things to work on and it helped. I also watched some Danny Maude videos that were incredibly helpful. As of now, 9 days later, I’m striking irons cleanly and straight around 60% of the time, but loft and distance are inconsistent. Here’s my plan from here, looking for feedback. 1) Swing mechanics - Daily practice for 5-10 mins with no ball, paying special attention to rhythm, feeling the weight of the club head, and approach angle. 2) driving range 3-4X per week. 20 balls each PW, 9, 7i. 3) When I’m hitting the ball well 80% of the time, add 5 iron on the range and play the 9 hole par 3 course at Penick campus when time allows. 4) practice putts 20mins, 1-2X/week. Hit out of bunkers 1X/week. 5) When I’m no longer confusing myself with the above, take a lesson focused on hitting from a tee, and work on tee shots with driver and 5 wood at range after warming up with irons. 6) once tee shots are straight 80% of the time, Play 18 Feedback on all of the above is welcome, here are some specific questions for the golfers: 1) does this plan seem sound? 2) should I buy a rangefinder? 3) my clubs are possibly shit. I bought them from a guy who made them in his garage in Cedar Park during the Covid era, because I couldn’t find any left handed clubs and wanted to buy clubs for some reason. Should I try to improve with these or start fresh new ones? 4) How irritating is it to play with a beginner on a public course? I’m very open to advice but I know people like to be helpful. My concern is that somebody I’m playing with might feel obligated to coach me up on their afternoon off, and that’s not fair for them.
  13. Agreed here, but Taaffe and McDonald have shown ball hawk tendencies. Maybe Derek Williams too. I’m not a Guilbeau believer, but the coaches seem to be so we’ll see. Cant have two corners (Muhammad & Guilbeau) who lack make up speed on the field at the same time.

  15. Fire in the sky, the alien movie, fucked me up as a kid. I couldn't get through IT, had to give that one a DNF as a kid
  16. Its hard to expect production that we have seen the last 2 years, but I do not see it as an issue. Cuse guy has real upside. Purdue (Brevard) guy seems like someone that can anchor at the LOS, not going to give you much pass rush. It is also very deep. I think it has an above conference average floor and if Maraad Watson (Freshmen AA at Cuse last year) and/or January break out as disruptors it has a chance to be a real strength of the defense.
  17. If you allow the anti-trans movement to breathe and flourish, other marginalized groups are next. It's not about intellectualism. It's just common decency.
  18. If he can get it why not? How would it be different than OpenAI or Microsoft offering their employees stock options? Or the big Wall Street firms doling out bonuses based on profit sharing? It's all collectively bargained anyway so it's not like he's holding them hostage.
  19. I'm sure tornado alley will really enjoy the shittier warnings and complete lack of any disaster response over the next few years.
  20. Agree that should be the first job to be done. But when that leaves you exactly where you are, you are exactly where we are. Refuting attacks with math, facts, reason, etc. goes back to the critique of we have to stop being so intellectual. People, especially the masses, are emotional creatures. They react based on feelings not facts. At some point you have to make a political decision based on forecasted votes is all I’m saying. And either it’s try a vitriolic defense campaign or continue with the message around trans as is and continue dying on a hill or quietly punt on the issue until voters are really ready for it which seems to have helped Dems win in the past (e.g. marijuana, gay marriage, etc.).

  23. Just got notice that my house in Allandale dropped 14%. Houses here are still selling in 2-3 weeks so it’s crazy to see that big of a decline.
