  1. Anyone who wasn't a complete moron took one look at that tax bill and knew it was nothing more than corporate welfare. Unlike previous republican issued corporate welfare it wasn't even hidden.

  2. Pretty neat slice of Texas history. Try to view on a large computer monitor because the details are wonderful. Cotton Bowl, 1930: Texas vs. Vanderbilt on Oct. 20, 1923 in the old Fair Park Stadium, which was right next to where the Cotton Bowl is now. The Cotton Bowl was built in 1929-1930, though it wasn't named the Cotton Bowl until 1936. Both stadiums together in 1930. The Cotton Bowl has just been built. You can see the old Fair Park Stadium at about 5:00 o'clock on the bottom right side of the Cotton Bowl. I apologize for how blurry this is but I had to enlarge it quite a bit and it wasn't the sharpest photo to begin with.

  3. Yeah....I don't even know how to respond to whatever the fuck he just posted. The metaphorical punching yourself in the face is just embarrassing. Lots of folks loathe Ted Cruz (I'm among them, absolutely). So are a shitload of Republicans. Because Ted is a loathesome toad. Interestingly enough, Beto's campaign, actions, and statements, have spent almost ZERO time mentioning or focusing on Ted and his loathsomeness. Instead, it's been the EXACT OPPOSITE of what you supposedly lament. AND, to top it off, that approach is getting MILLIONS of Americans (buncha "leftists") to ADMIRE the approach, and hold it up as how things SHOULD be done. In other words, you just posted about how libs are all about hate and division, and: 1 -- you did so in the context of Beto O'Rourke.... 2--- who has run a campaign that is distinctive and unique in that is has studiously AVOIDED hate and division, and.... 3 -- that approach has been held up by millions of Beto supporters around the nation as the way things should be done. Pretty solid logical reasoning there, chief. Top-notch.

  4. Fine, but that's a failure of the Democratic party to reach a crucial part of their coalition as much as it's something the President is doing. 44% of the US electorate are white voters without a college degree, vs 30% who do. People of all races without college degrees are left behind in our economy and have anxieties that need to be addressed, and education may be the greatest correlating factor but not NOT a sufficient remedy. Barack Obama won because he effectively spoke to their pain. At the same time, Democrats across the board lost their support because they did not address their problems. Hillary Clinton's proposals basically amounted to more table scraps for everyone, while Donald Trump promised to restore their dignity, as false and corrosive as his approach was. My point is that while Democrats and progressives can pat themselves on the back for being smart, they will not be able to put together a stable national majority until they are willing to offer something other than a pat on the head and whatever shrinking portion of our economy is left after they enjoy the prime cuts.

  8. There's so much to unpack in that article: 1) I've long been skeptical of yard signs as a campaign tool. But there is something to them when you're running an underdog campaign. It creates name recognition. And especially in (perhaps formerly) Republican areas, it creates a permission structure whereby people can at least consider voting for a Democrat. I do think that the Republican thought process is generally right that when you have a Republican incumbent who already has name recognition, yard signs are probably a waste of time in an ordinary campaign. Greg Abbott isn't going to need to print a single yard sign to bury Lupe Valdez. But when you're facing an insurgent candidate, there's obviously a very real risk of your own supporters getting demoralized. 2) The notion that Beto has just been giving away yard signs willy-nilly is wholly false. I bought mine, as did most everyone I know. Only recently have they been giving them out for free, and even then you have to have gone to an event to get one (meaning you paid with your time). 3) For all the post-hoc justification by the Cruz campaign, there's a whiff of unpreparedness about that whole campaign. They don't have a campaign message; they haven't really coordinated their attacks; they don't have much of a ground game. Cruz himself has always talked a good game about how he thought this was going to be a real race, . . . but did he? 4) His one campaign theme seems to be "Keep Texas Red." But let's get one thing real straight--Texas is going to stay Red. Next January, the Governor is still going to be a Republican; both houses of the Legislature will be overwhelmingly Republican; every justice on the Supreme Court will be a Republican. The problem isn't that Texas is becoming purple; it's that Ted Cruz is a shitty candidate and has been a shitty senator. "Keep Texas Red" does nothing to address that, and that's a real problem for his campaign.

  9. Well, 3 weeks ago you guys inspired me. I did not want to post until I was sure I would stick with it. I really needed to lose 40-50 lbs but continually put it off. I did not go full blown into the keto diet but eliminated all bread, pasta and soda. Down 10lbs as of this morning. I think 3lbs a week is a good starting point, Just need to cut back a little more beer on golf league nights. Thanks for the inspiration.

  10. In the 26 largest counties with 75% of the voters Republicans won by 332,590 votes in 2012, but the Democrats won by 262,992 votes in 2016. The Libertarian vote increased by 161,147 votes at the same time representing potential swing voters. Statewide the Libertarian vote went up about 195,000. If you look at actual data Democrats have made inroads. In the 228 smaller counties the Republicans won by 929,129 votes in 2012 and 1070171 votes in 2016 a 141,042 improvement. Based on linearly extending the simple 2012 to 2016 trend and assuming a 60% midterm turnout for both parties the Democrats would win the big counties by 559,543 votes. A 60% decrease in smaller county turnout from 2016 would give the Republicans a 642,102 vote advantage there for a net win of 82,559 votes statewide. This is before factoring in what the swing Libertarian vote does, or if there is a blue wave, or that 10% of Republicans have abandoned the party, and many other bad trends for the Republicans. A recent poll put Cruz's support in rural areas at 66%, when the R advantage in the 228 smallest counties was 72.5% in 2012 and 74.6% in 2016. If Cruz only has 66% support in the 228 smallest counties, not all of which is rural by the way, he only wins them by 443,205, once again assuming a 60% turnout by both sides. I am starting to think there is a realistic possibility that Beto will have a 800,000 to a million vote advantage in the 26 biggest counties, and the rural vote will be unable to make up the difference. That comes to a 6 to 10 point win. I am hoping that this will lead the Democrats to victory in the Lt. Governor and Attorney General races, along with flipping 3-5 US congressional seats. It is regrettable that the Democrats failed to run a decent candidate for Governor, because Beto's blue wave might have pulled a good candidate across the line.

  11. Our eighth and final phone bank is underway. It's very obvious that Beto's name recognition has skyrocketed in the last five weeks. A lot more people we call know who he is. It's also gratifying to see how many enthusiastic young people are showing up for these things. I would say the average age of our attendees is about 23. NW Austin peeps, too bad you weren't able to show up, you would have enjoyed the, um, "scenery". No, no pics. I want these girls to come back if we have any more events. Anyway M12 is going this weekend to be trained as a volunteer trainer and I'll probably do the same. We're all in. We've also contributed the max to his campaign. That's right. The 1%, I am in it.

  13. What I want: Bezos, Gates, and Buffet to spend their "Fuck you" money in politics until every last Trumpkin is booted from office. Literally outspend the Kochs and every other comparatively poor Republican donor until they all just stop because its futile to try to outspend Bezos, Gates, Buffet, etc... Same for Google, Apple, and all the forward thinking tech companies. Let's counter all the money that supports stupidity for profit with money for thoughtful, sound, reasonable policies. Is that too much to ask?

  14. Someone should start a PAC called Cucks for Cruz and then buy commercial time with the ad consisting of nothing but someone reading Cruz's quotes from the 2016 campaign about what a pyscopath Trump is, all the while displaying the phonebank photo. End it with texas tough. Never mention Beto, never criticize Cruz. Just his words. This ad paid for by Cucks for Cruz.

Agggy is so faithful they are all probably already seated for the game just swaying and singing about Texas who they don't care about anymore, milk men are prancing around jazz hands and leg kick whooping. Jimbo will be carried in like a fiji prince on a golden platform, carried by the corps and led by revile. They have to walk him around the field 7 times in complete figure 8's for the aggy sarge blesses their win in aggy heaven, which if you didn't know is actually two heavens above where everyone else goes.

But it is not our role to diagnose. Try to make the most of your limited time with your cousin. Be of service to him in the sense that he probably desperately needs to have some fun. Try not to bring him down. Be a beacon of how life can be.
