  1. My favorite thing about Derrian Brown is how I forgot multiple times the dude was even in the class. Never heard a peep out of him. Then on signing day the dude signs his LOI in a Longhorns bowtie like it's nothing. Kid is business. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  3. I think it’s great and kind of charming that he’s not tech savvy. giles is a good dude and a good coach. maybe he’s not as high speed as we need on the recruiting trail, and maybe he’ll be replaced, but y’all are a bunch of assholes for shitting on him. he’s a goddamn lifetime longhorn. and he’s been on campus two seasons (this time) and both seasons he’s coached the conference defensive line MVP. just. quit. bitching.

  4. DL depth is not an issue, including DT. That is complete horseshit. Would we all like a couple more elite prospects? Yes, but it's a very talented group and certainly going to be better as they mature than anything we've had in a long while. When you talk about depth you have to talk about the 3 year rolling combination of classes, and if we are judging Herman and his staff, that's the 2018-2020 classes. we play mostly 3 man fronts and today we signed Sweat. Jones. Mpagi. Warren. to go along with 2018 class Coburn. Ossai. Ojomo. Carson. Those 8 players (and perhaps Hobbs as well) to go along with Graham, Wilbon, Roach, Bimage, Chisolm on a 6 man 2 deep? That's bigger, deeper, and more talented than Texas has been at DL in a while. It's not Alabama, it's not Clemson, but it's also going to be far better than starting Hager and Omenihu for 2 years with true fish behind them on the 2 deep.

  8. Jesus what a fucking beating. But outside of the results of the day, my favorite part as always is the unrecognizable fucks from the football board who show up once a year to tell the regulars on this thread what assholes they are for being critical or pessimistic for any part of this class, staff, or both. Its like 247 arrived and dumped en masse all over the only bearable board relating to football.

  10. Some of you bitches are insufferable. The class is fantastic so far. Filled a ton of positions of need. With as many areas needing help, you can’t realistically expect to fill them all perfectly. And don’t start on “well OL or RB was the most important” because if we’d landed those spots in lieu of something else your whiny bitch ass would be saying “well blah and blah we’re the most important.” If Bru were to miraculously commit, a lot of you would instantly be proclaiming the class a success even though that wouldn’t fit your shifting narrative of what is/was the most important need. Seriously. Please stop filling the thread with whining. It’s getting in the way of the adults talking.

  11. EJ, one year from now: "Zach's family has always been worried about the workload he might see at Texas. It really would have helped if Texas landed one of their top targets last year to split carries."

  12. I know getting Sanders or Cain would have been great but Texas still signed the 12th best RB in the class. There is still time for the Oline. I can’t believe how big of vaginas everyone is being.

  15. It's a class of high variance so far. Outstanding at QB, TE, inside WR, and LB. Very good at DL, outside WR, cornerback, and S. Mediocre at RB - I don't hate Derrian Brown, but I don't see him as a true difference-making feature back, and we need numbers, point-blank. Subpar at OL, and the only reason it's not poor is that Tyler Johnson is a fucking stud who is enrolling early. But again, it's only NSD1. The staff needs to find another RB. Glass will do if he wants in, and we'll have to resign ourselves to the fact that there won't be a truly great prospect in this haul. They need to find another true tackle prospect who's not Shepherd, regardless of whether he signs with Texas or not. They need to find a third OL who can play inside. If he can be groomed to play center, that's a bonus. They may need to find another jumbo athlete who can play on either line, like Christian Jones last year. Either he ends up being another interior guy, or we have a Mike Williams replacement. They need to do everything they can to sway Catalon and his parents, but it may be too late for that. Beyond that, it's up to the JUCO and grad transfer market. Definitely OL (preferably someone who can play center, maybe a tackle if you can find one) and RB. LB would be nice. TE and DB would be luxuries if we can get them, but perhaps not attainable. Beyond that, it's going to be a pretty good but not great class. If this is the floor for recruiting under Herman, then we'll be fine going forward. If not, we have major issues. Addendum: I think the 2020 class is going to be noticeably better. If we want it to be truly great, we're going to need changes on the staff and in strategy.

  16. That you feel compelled to constantly and narrowly focus only on the negatives w/r/t recruiting is why people are calling you out. The close was disappointing. There were institutional obstacles a bit outside of our control that played a factor this year. But we signed some real difference makers at key positions. It's not all great. But it's not all bad either. You're imbalanced regarding your takes and it's getting pretty fucking tiring.

  19. QB: Roschon Johnson. He fits the Herman offensive system like a glove, and by all accounts he's a fantastic cultural and character fit. Be excited. RB: Derrian Brown. Fluid runner, pretty good vision and cutting ability, great hands out of the backfield. Good complementary back, maybe not a feature back. We need more here. OL: Tyler Johnson. Superstud, can play tackle or inside. We need more here. A lot more. TE: Brayden Liebrock, Jared Wiley. This is a phenomenal pairing. An elite pass-catching TE (best since Blaine Irby, IMO) and a guy who can become Herman's ideal inline TE in a year or two. Inside WR: Jake Smith, Jordan Whittington. As good as you're going to get in college football recruiting. Both of these guys can be Day 1 players, especially Whittington since he's enrolling next month. Both can take snaps out of the backfield as well, which may be a necessity depending on how RB recruiting turns out. Outside WR: Kennedy Lewis, Marcus Washington. Marcus is just a damn good football player who could contribute as a freshman. Kennedy has a high ceiling with his size and speed, but he'll need time to develop. Very good haul that should have been even better. DL: Jacoby Jones (JUCO), Myron Warren, T'Vondre Sweat, Peter Mpagi - a lot of upside here. No true blue-chips (though you could make the case for Warren and Sweat), but three players who could wreak havoc after a year or two with Yancy + Jones, who can upgrade our pass rush immediately. We might need to take another player who can develop into a DT, with the departure of Mike Williams. LB: De'Gabriel Floyd, Marcus Tillman, David Gbenda, Caleb Johnson (JUCO) - an A+ haul of versatile backers, exactly what Todd Orlando needs. Floyd and Johnson should play early. Floyd could be on the Caden Sterns 3-and-out track. CB: Marques Caldwell, Kenyatta Watson - our staff loves length and physicality, and they got it. Watson can be a special teams difference-maker as a freshman, and wouldn't look totally out of place if he had to play on defense by the end of his freshman season. S: Tyler Owens, Chris Adimora - Major speed upgrade with Owens, Adimora is another one of those guys who screams "football player". Overall it's a pretty good class with two big positional holes that need to be addressed (OL, RB). On top of that, we're missing a day 1 difference-maker at DL and perhaps one more freak outside WR who can put us over the top. Oh yeah, we need someone who can play nickel.

  20. Trump and the other conservatives heading up the GOP are giving the deplorable 35% an America that promises that: God will inhabit the classroom and courtroom where he belongs American-born white men of Christ will sit at the head of the table where they belong Women will stay in the kitchen where they belong Gays will stay in the closet where they belong Blacks will stay at the back of the bus where they belong Mexicans will stay in their shithole country where they belong I don't think anything is a foregone conclusion at this point, but if the radically conservative forces in power prevail, that won't be some alternative, make-believe reality. It will just be fucking reality. Whether any of us want it or not, we are in an an ideological fight-to-the-death for what America will be from this point forward. A few things give me hope for our future. First, the midterms showed that a lot of traditionally apathetic voters grasp the gravity of what is at stake. Second, we are seeing signs of strength in those who are in a direct position to potentially stop this madness. Finally, it looks increasingly likely that radical conservatism was *not* the choice of the American people in 2016, but that radical conservatives had to criminally conspire to consolidate their power and that they will be held accountable for it. Here's to not being ruled by a fucking Aggy worldview.

  28. Well, well, well. I see this board's ambivalence is on steroids today, unsurprisingly. On the one hand, there are people climbing over one another to laud this staff for back to back top 10 classes. On the other hand, there's sarvanaash, which is Dutch for "pink, baboon-sized, swollen vagina" and his handwringing band of dickless wonders posting alongside. I guess I'd like to see the class finish in the top 10 before I give the staff credit for finishing in the top 10. Then, I'd like to understand how in the fuck that is anything except for table stakes at Texas. Wake me up when he closes multiple top 5 classes, then I'll know we have a prayer of competing every year for the playoffs. I'm not ready to hang myself over the results so far, however. I knew the entire fucking way that Sanders wasn't going anywhere but Alabama and I told you guys that repeatedly. Cain has been a tough read the whole time, and now we know, he's into children. In truth, I don't have any issues with Herman and crew taking swings for the fences. I wish they'd be more honest with themselves about which players can be recruited cleanly, or start participating in the bidding wars. They truly wasted their time on Sanders. The entire story there has been known forever. But, hey, Tom Herman knows better. Confidence isn't a bad thing. Overconfidence can be fatal - for life, careers, relationships, and countries. Telling Peyton Powell to fuck off because he hurt your feelings is going to seem really smart. Letting Mehringer continue to talk to Higgins and Wilson is also super smart. Last year, after the regular season ended, Saban moved 8 guys off of his staff. He determined he needed to get younger and more energetic on the recruiting end. He also fired multiple administrative aids on the recruiting end as well. This year, I'm interested to see if any of the dead weight on this staff is shown the exit. There is zero buzz around it right now, and some of you guys will die on the hill of defending a coach, any coach, so I get that you're rooting against change anyway. I'll cross my fingers that Herman has the brains and balls to shake loose at least 3 of the 5 non-contributors. We'll see.

  30. I’m stunned at the reactions on this board. It’s been fairly clear for weeks that Sanders probably it wasn’t picking us, Cain was non-committal and always looking at alternatives, McCoy is in love with USC, Shepard is a flake, and Hookfin was a late-add developmental project. If you are mad, you should have been mad awhile ago. Personally, I’m not nearly as worried. We have an amazing class, with some gaps at OL, RB and DT. They will find guys at each of those positions that may not be elite, but will be good. Once we kick ass next year, we can get the rest of the elite players we need. The only thing that can put a kink in the plan is if the barrels of cash from other schools start swaying every top talent. Buckle up, pussies. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  33. Republicans may figure out impeaching Trump is their best move. Otherwise every negotiation will go like this... Nancy/Chuck - "Donnyboy, let's go discuss this in private" In private Nancy hints at the democratic house going after his taxes - Donny2scoops folds every motherfucking time. Seriously, what's to prevent this from happening? The Russians aren't the only ones that can play this game with the dumbest prez of all time. If it comes to saving his ass vs caving to Democratic politicians, does anyone think Trump would stand up for anything? Fuck no, it's always about saving his ass. This will bring the Lulz.

  35. Get this shit off the recruiting thread. Better question: What coaches should be fired (and possibly thrown in prison) because of their sub par recruiting? I think Giles should be charged with war crimes under the Geneva Conventions.

  36. I'm hearing that Hookfin was all Baylor until the coaches told him that he could room with Shepard his freshman year. I think those two are going to be best buddies that get into all kinds of wacky situations. Should be a good time for everyone.

  37. My Iranian father and uncle both Americanized their first names for a few years back in the 80s. There was a lot of animosity towards Iranians here in Texas, but they did a good job of sheltering me from it as a kid. They've never shared any of the issues they had, but I distinctly remember an uncomfortable period. Sounds like Icono thinks he and his family were respected because they were educated and wealthy. I guess he never considered what racist assholes said behind their back. Instead Icono decided to discriminate as well and become a classist. Clearly there is a lot of self hatred, and Icono's defense mechanism is to direct hate towards others. Sad.
