  1. I've stayed away from this thread since the buzzfeed bombshell that wasn't. Enough time has passed since the Mueller report was delivered that someone can start to draw some informed conclusions. I'm in full Brisket-mode until somebody in a position of power gives me a reason to believe we aren't completely fucked. TrumpCo tried like hell to conspire with the Russian's, but cannot be proven to have been successful to the degree that the justice dept is willing to indict a sitting president. With regards to obstruction, Mueller just lays out the facts and leaves it to others to draw conclusions. In so doing, he gives anyone with a predisposition for Trump A) an out to avoid dealing with his actions and B) an ability to construct a narrative where Trump has done nothing wrong. Barr, a fucking tool who serves his master, GOP congress critters, the conservative machine and the nation of deplorables they serve gladly leap on that to exonerate Trump of any and everything. Mueller acting frustrated and shocked about this outcome seems incredibly naive on his part. He's fucking Ned Stark in the throne room producing a piece of parchment that Cersei rips up in his face. So now its up to congress to act to reign in a President run amok and serve as a warning for future dipshits that our nation of dipshits might vote into office and... my bet is they will punt. Republicans won't act because he's their guy and Trump's base will primary anyone who acts against him. Democrats won't act because Trump Trumping as President best supports their 2020 chances not just in the Presidency but across the board. They will make noise and try to make it damaging for the GOP, but they aren't going to impeach a guy clearly unfit for the Presidency when he is galvanizing everyone not sporting a cheeto-orange milk mustache to get out and vote. Meanwhile, Trump will continue to make a mockery of America and especially our facade of democracy. He will continue to use executive power to fuck shit up. Continue to damage our position with allies and in the world. 2020 election season will come along and we'll see 2016 all over again. On fucking steroids. An attempt to get foreign powers to intercede again, probably more successful since he's actually the sitting President with the proven power to stymie the negative effects of such an act is almost certain. Why the fuck not? He will have not any ramifications to his actions leading up to his election and in the obstruction afterwards. And if he loses, he will be facing a lot of additional scrutiny, investigations and potential indictment when he leaves office, so its in his best interests to stay President for as long as possible -- by any means necessary. I think the next election comes down to this -- are there enough sane, thoughtful citizens motivated enough to vote to overcome Trump's by-any-means-necessary methods, his base of deplorables and those foreign powers whose best interests are served by an America weakened in the world who will be even more emboldened to attack our election processes. I don't like those odds. Pass the fucking scotch and a bottle of fentanyl.

  3. i don't think people are worked up about today because it cracked the mueller report wide open or anything. i think people are just in disbelief (again) that someone who was once hoped to be neutral has been warped into yet another stooge for this president-turned-king who seems to be able to continually gangster his way around the constitution. most people grow up in america thinking, "well it can't ever get that bad, the way the govt is set up, it'll work itself out and we have nothing to fear." we've never seen anyone ever push back this hard on the system, and somehow it's fucking working. so no, today wasn't some bombshell. just another in a long line of disappointing and embarrassing days for our country. at least nixon had shame, and skulked away quietly. ain't gonna happen with this one.

  4. I don't know why people aren't just saying it publicly. Trump and the banana republicans want foreign interference in our elections because they are benefiting from it right now. Let's stop pretending the lack of action is mere negligence. It's an intentional policy approach.

  8. As promised, a follow up to "mobile cup cover for music festivals." So this weekend my wife is on the phone with her business partner, while the rest of the family is putzing around the house. I'm not really paying attention until I hear " ... like a prophylactic." So my ears perk up a bit and I hear "mumble, mumble ... Shark Tank ..." Now she has my full attention and I zero in on the conversation like the Bionic Woman and - I shit you not - she says "Do we know anyone with contacts to Mark Cuban?" Phone conversation ends and ours begins: Me: What was that about? Wife: The idea you think will never happen. Me: That's not fair, I think it's a great idea (trying to suppress uncontrollable laughter). Wife: Well good, because Shelly (her business partner) is already in contact with an industrial designer in San Francisco. She's going to look over my sketch and come up with some ideas, maybe even do a 3D printing. Me: Sketch? Wife: Yeah, I drew something up, want to see it? (Opens notebook) Me: Wow, interesting. So who's going to buy this thing again? Wife: To start, concerned parents. You may not remember this because you weren't really listening the first time we discussed this, but it's to prevent some asshole from putting roofies into the drinks of unsuspecting girls' drinks at these music festivals. Here look (shows me Youtube video of some asshole putting something into the drink of an unsuspecting girl at a music festival). Me: But won't the kids just toss them when their parents give it to them? If it comes from the parents they won't use it. Wife: Well then we'll sell them to the music festivals. And bars too. Ever heard of liability? *Previously I wrote a fictitious rant from wife about putting logos on these things, and their environmental friendliness. Well, I fucking know my wife like the back of my hand and right here she launches into EXACTLY THAT, except the logos are now "branding opportunities" and the cover won''t be plastic, like those dumb lids.* Wife: Think of it like a stack of band aids. You just peel it off and put it over the cup. Then just toss it when you're done. Me: Nodding my head, give her a thumbs up. Wife: Fuck you. You just watch, this is going to be big. Skip to yesterday, the Amazon lids show up. I considered going the "prototype" route. I have a garage workshop that might as well be Area 51 to my wife, but she's too smart to fall for the whole "look what I made for you" deal. So I just left it on the kitchen counter and held my breath. She walked in, took a look at it, kind of stunned. After a few seconds she looked back to me and said "That isn't disposable." I said nothing. You could see all sorts of thoughts were running through her brain and she said "Wait, did you get that for me?" Me: Yep , found it on Amazon. Wife: Oh honey, thank you! (gives me a kiss) Me: (shocked, not expecting this response). Of course! Wife: See? It's a real product that works! (she takes a picture and sends it to her business partner). But ours will be different. Cheaper. More effective. I'm telling you it's going to be big. So with that, I leave you until my wife appears on Shark Tank. Thank you NW Buck for the link.

Me: Oh yeah, it's the latest thing, teenage girls go put on grass skirts and coconut shell tops and dance to ukulele music. Scandalous! Her: Sounds fun to me. Me: It's a Hookah bar for fucks sake. You heard "hula bar" and had no follow up question with her?

  11. he is so full of bullshit. The FISA warrants were supported by multiple points of independent and verified data points. The steele dossier has been proven correct over and over again. Trump has been proven a liar over and over again. And now the AG is covering up the President's lies and shameful acts with his own display of shameful and deceitful conduct. Someone can argue all day whether it is wise to impeach Trump or not. Someone can argue all day whether there is a enough evidence to convict trump on conspiring with the russians and obstructing justice. And I will respectfully disagree. But fuck any and all noise that tries to sidestep all of the truly horrific shit Trump has done by attacking the motherfucking FISA warrants that were approved over and over again because not only was there corroborating evidence but the dipshits kept engaging with the Russians over and over again even after being warned about it. Trump conspired with the Russians to get his Tower. He failed but he got the Presidency as his consolation prize. Trump has obstructed justice at every turn into that investigation and again in the Congressional investigation. AG Barr is covering up for Trump and threatening the rule of law for our nation. So fuck anyone that defends this shit and chooses party or "bothsides" over our nation.

  12. so much bullshit and lies. dude, you suck at this. your boy trump coordinated and conspired with the Russians and he got caught. plain and simple. he didnt do it out of some grand scheme as a russian agent to allow the russians to take over America. he did it because he thought he could play the game and come out of it with the Trump Tower in Moscow. He did it in the same way and using the same techniques he has always used: those of organized crime. Its all there in the report. Your boy got caught. The AG is trying his best to make it all go away but for some god forsaken reason it just wont die! The FBI and IC did it the right way. The Steele dossier has proven to be mostly right if not completely including the way the Trump campaign coordinated with them, parroted talking points, and worked in a way and manner that expected to benefit from the KNOWN Russian efforts to assist them. At no time did the motherfucker's campaign try to stop the Russians or do anything to act in America's best interest. Instead he kept playing shadow games with Russians and the US IC. motherfucker could have put a stop to all of it, if he wanted. So no, the FBI and IC did NOT do anything wrong with the FISA warrants. They didnt spy on the Trump campaign. They did their job. They arent stupid. They didnt unknowingly included Russian misinformation in their FISA report. They included and identified RAW data into later FISA reports. And that raw data corroborated other previously independent and verified data. They followed up on credible leads and did everything by the book from start to finish but the motherfucker you keep defending did not do anything the right way. But you know all of that unless you are just incredibly stupid. But more likely you are just a hardcore trumpkin who likes to lie and play like you are somewhere in the middle without any side but always come down against anyone and everyone that opposes trump and his dipshits. And Trump's obstruction and your adherence thereto continues to this day with the AG of the UNITED STATES covering up multiple crimes for the President. You know better. You know that the AG is fucking hack at this point who is embarrassing our nation and endangering the rule of law. And if you dont know it or wont admit it, then fuck you. you are part of the problem. I hope both the AG and the President are made examples of so as to discourage this sort of behavior from ever happening again.

There's garden variety dishonest, and then there's root principle destroying dishonesty. Using the former to shrug off the latter makes one complicit in the destruction of his own country. Don't do that, please.

  17. For me, the line is drawn by their policy positions. If someone runs on an anti-abortion platform or "family values" platform and tries to control the conduct of other individuals, then their private lives are fair game because they've made other persons' private lives a political matter. It's like that one dude from Tennessee or some other Appalachian state a couple of years ago who was publicly anti-abortion but was found to have pressured his mistress into having an abortion.

  20. It doesnt fucking matter because Steele disclosed all of that. He said THIS IS RAW DATA so take it all with a grain of salt. So what the fuck did you want the FBI to do with it? to do with info that largely corroborated by independent data previously gathered? Yeah thats what I thought. And its convenient you cherry picked the few things that havent been proven or disproven at this point but left out the other 90% that has been independently verified. Again this is nothing more than disinformation. The FISA warrants were acquired correctly and by the book. The motherfucker in the WH however did not do things by the book nor did he do things correctly. He lied, cheated, and did everything he could possible do to work with the Russians to get his Tower in Moscow and the US presidency. And the fucking AG of the United States is actively engaged in a cover up of Trump's transgressions. Its fucking buillshit.

  24. Yep. Most people who vote are overtaxed. And I'm not talking about income tax. I'm talking about they are struggling to balance work, family, finances, self and many other more proximal concerns than what is happening in Washington. Their life feels like they are juggling chainsaws and if you are going to vie for their energy and attention, you better damn sure have something interesting and/or important or you will be tuned out very quick. They almost have to simply buy what is being fed to them from a source or just be completely ignorant (which would probably be better overall). I'm afraid what has happened with Trump is that information fatigue has set in. A third of the population views what is going on as important and worthy of their time, another third is like "Yeah, fake news. Fuck off, assholes" and the final third are like, "Yeah, Trump sucks. Tell me something I don't know. Wake me up if we ever have the pee tape." They have been bombarded with conflicting "news" about Trump, the special investigation, Mueller, Russia, collusion, obstruction, etc... for a long time now.

  25. Derka is right. You are bound by the universe you have previously created. Jon being resurrected by a witch falls in line with the magic of this world. People being able to escape certain death in a matter of jump cuts has not been how the show previously worked. Just because there is magic doesn't mean there aren't natural laws and rules in place. It is lazy writing to use the excuse of magic to mean literally anything can happen.

  26. This is what the annoys me and what I kept hearing from Republicans today; there was no crime, no indictment and so that makes the presidents actions ok? You’re proud of the way our President handled this situation? Is the only standard for our president that he didn’t get indicted and there was no proof without a reasonable doubt of a crime? Are y’all fucking for real? It’s embarrassing that the only defense for this president is that he did nothing technically illegals. The mayor of Pflugerville would be run off for this type of behavior, but the president? No problem.

  27. Mueller may be naive, but he's also just about as good as it gets with regard to evidence that these LE types are typically all about the rule of law. Obviously, not all -- Barr is a fucking political stooge hired to do a job, and he's doing it, and Comey is an attention whore who might actually have good intentions. Mueller just strikes me as a serious pro who expects the game to be played a certain way, and then he's taken by surprise when Barry Switzer spies on his practices.

  30. This. The prosecution counter-argument needs to be short and to the point: if you buy the argument of the defense, then you are finding that the standard is 1) you can walk into any residence claiming "whoops, I thought this was my house, it was dark, I was confused," and 2) kill anyone you see, because hey, an intruder in YOUR house should be shot, and 3) you just walk away free as a bird. While an innocent man lies dead in his own home. Killed by an unlawful intruder. Nope. You go into someone else's home and kill them, you go to prison. That's the only outcome that makes any sense.

  40. ok so i was out running around - listened on cnn on sirius so i caught the end. my two big takeaways from the final hour: 1. barr's circular logic is astounding. we didn't bring charges because of the policy of indicting a sitting president. and since we didn't bring charges, there was no crime. and since there was no crime, there is no obstruction, only false allegations. and since the allegations were false, the president is allowed to "obstruct" an investigation if he wants. did i hear that right? fucking for real? he could've gotten outta there without spilling this nugget, and i bet he's wishing he had. 2. calling the letter snitty and implying that one of his staffers wrote it is probably the minute mueller decided he would testify. i don't really care about the notes, the speaker phone, or anyone else on either staff who overheard stuff - if mueller testifies, then i'm fine with that. also this part was fun (paraphrasing): senator - what was the topic of the call with mueller, was he unhappy about the way you characterized his report? barr - no, it was mostly about how the press was handling it. i mean, it's all in the letter, you saw the letter. senator - the letter doesn't mention the press. barr - right, well, yeah.
