  2. Hey all you motherfuckers that are going bananas over the position coaching search timelines - you guys know that the AFCA convention is in 2 days, right? I know that ESD has seemed to change things a bit in terms of public timetable but the reality for coaches is that guys searching for jobs and coaches hiring the convention is where shit gets done. I understand that everyone wants Herman to pick from a rolodex of guys at each spot and hour before he fired each of the previous coaches, but to be honest - the position coaches should be being picked by Yurcich and Ash and approved/vetoed by Herman. The convention has always been the place that shit gets done and before you even stammer about Arkansas' staff being full or whatever - take a look at their class vs. our current class and realize that there's a huge need for Pittman to get a staff in place and get them on the road. The huge need at Texas is to find guys that can develop the talent in house and that can work together to not only create more effective gameplans but communicate bidirectionally when they see things happening during the game that can give a competitive edge. IDGAF where they were they coached or who they are if they can stand up for themselves and say "fuck that shit". Too many of the guys on staff the past 2 years knew the problems and wouldn't tell Orlando "fuck that shit". I know there's a great gnashing of teeth and taste of bile from the 2019 season is still fresh. Trust me, I fully fucking understand. That season was fucking bullshit but to this point Herman has done most of what everyone on surly has wished for (outside of me with that shitfuck Drayton, but there is hope - however dangerous that is). Meh is gone. Beck is gone. Orlando is gone. Meekins is moved to non-coaching role where he can still provide some recruiting help. Warehime is gone. There were a multitude of posts saying that Herman would never make those changes. He did and so now the focus is on the "comfort hire" or lack of expediency with position coach hires. Fuck both of those ideas. I don't know if any of the hires will work but I can tell you that the Ohio State team that featured Herman and Ash as OC and DC certainly looked well coached and schemed. I also know that if Orlando would've just played motherfucking base defense for the entire season with nary a single blitz - the Longhorns probably win 9. I fully expect the 2020 team to be markedly better simply by playing a much simpler brand of defense. That alone will change the scope of the W/L total, imo. Not pumping sunshine just Occam's Razor. Recruiting related because recruiting is about relationships and hiring position coaches last week or in two weeks changes next to nothing in the scope of closing out the 2020 class - which is largely complete. The pieces in play are being recruited by Herman, the coordinators and the position coaches still on staff that have relationships with them.

  4. Anytime I see a post by a Dotard voter pissed about anything remotely untrue I just laugh. These people are propping up someone who lies around 15-17 times each day. They have no credibility. They are the actual scum Dotard rails on about. They will gladly see him lie 15 times a day so long as they get him to say something negative about liberals. I am not a Democrat, but I will gladly vote for them for the rest of my life. When the choice is voting for racist scumbags that makes my voting choice easy.

  6. aggy treats shit that happened a long time ago like it plays into today as well. Price left Wazzu a decade before TSO got there. Wazzu won 5 conference games in the 4 seasons prior to Leach's arrival. Mike Price is no longer in football and had virtually zero influence on the game as a whole. Yeah, apt comparison, bro.

  9. When HEB opened in West U, it necessitated the closure of an old mom-and-pop drugstore, the Buffalo Pharmacy. So what did HEB do? Just kinda shrug it off as a sad consequence of capitalism? No -- they hired the entire staff of Buffalo as their in-store pharmacy department. When they opened in Montrose, it necessitated the demolition of a really pretty 1940s apartment complex that had about 20 mature live oaks on the grounds. While they tore down the apartment buildings, they kept most of the trees, and now that is one of the nicest parking lots in town. I know for a fact Kroger would have just cut them all down. I hate being such a fanboy for any company, but I am totally an HEB fanboy.

You’ll end up with new outdoor furniture that you have to put together and don’t understand why until a few weeks later when you hear her joking to her friends about how you let her order it after drinking four margaritas at the last happy hour...

  14. since nobody else will answer you, i'll try. there is no advantage (or disadvantage) either way to not sending the articles, and nobody really knows for sure why she went this route. but i'll attempt some motive here. when the house was presenting/voting, there was already chatter that the senate was going to kill it, quickly and quietly, likely before christmas, and that'll be that. at that point, mcconnell wanted it either dismissed, or at worst, quickly voted down. trump, on the other hand, was squawking about a long, drawn out trial (as were many other r's) that would go 6 days a week, all day every day for months, calling everyone and everything not nailed down as a witness. keep in mind, when i say "witness" i don't mean in the traditional sense, you know, someone who brings in actual facts relating to the charges. i'm talking about people they could call and smear and grandstand to, in hopes of screwing with biden's chance in the election (the only play in trump's playbook). after some time, mcconnell convinced trump this was not the right move, and that he would handle it, and kill it dead. it was also around this point, when people like lindsey graham went on tv to announce they had no intention of being fair and impartial, and that they already had their mind made up. so nancy had two choices - either send 'em on over or stand pat for a minute, and assess some options. with the holidays coming, she probably felt there was no hurry, and didn't want it buried in the news cycle, so she waited 2 days, and they went on recess. to me, there is no disadvantage to waiting a couple of days (which is a couple of weeks when you account for the holidays). it was her way of controlling the narrative so that people visiting with their families would be discussing the facts and merit of what the house brought forth. again, this is my speculation. holding also isn't what the republicans were expecting, and it's always a good idea (for nancy) to keep them guessing, and she seems adept at doing this, with the added bonus of getting under trump's skin, something she does exceptionally well. and it worked, because he started in with the tweets, "if you're gonna impeach me, do it now, do it fast" and so forth. as for your question of why would the r's want it - they shouldn't want it, and shouldn't care, but since they know it's coming, they're kinda forced to address it. so now the holidays are over, and she started demanding fair trial rules - something nobody thought she'd get. and she didn't. but it allowed for more time to stall, and lo and behold, news comes out that bolton will testify, if subpoenaed, by the senate. and even though the likelihood is small that we'll ever hear from him, it throws a bit of a monkey wrench into the senate r's plan of "we don't need to call witnesses". it also sorta makes holding look like a calculated move that could start to bring out more actual fact witnesses. now, when she does send them over (which apparently is happening today or early next week), her argument over a "fair" trial with actual witnesses holds a little more water. and hopefully, people will notice a difference when mitch says "fuck off", than if he said it a month ago (which he basically did). personally, i think the longer you wait, the more chance trump has of going off the rails and reversing course back to the long and drawn out trial where he thinks hunter biden will come testify and it'll be a big win for him with ukraine aid. tl; dr version - my opinion is that nancy did it to fuck with r's. we have no idea why, or if it'll work. there's no reason to go quickly if you already know the final decision. might as well wait and hope for some unforced errors.

  18. It's like this dumbfuck didn't learn from his first set of incompetent hires. Torrian Gray is a solid DB coach with 19 years of coaching experience at Florida. He makes $450k. Offer him 600k and make him say no. That's a real fucking DB coach that can coach and recruit. Took Jahari Rodgers and Ethan Pouncy from us. If they say no, call the Michigan, Clemson, Oregon DB coach. They all make 400k. Offer them the same. One will take the fucking pay raise and come to Austin, Texas and enjoy not paying state income tax. Instead we go to the worst P5 school and go after a guy that was fired. Am I taking crazy pills? What the fuck is wrong with Herman. Does he still think he's at UH?
    7 points
  19. What evidence can you offer in support of "recruiting ringer"? I see that he failed as a trainer/agent in DFW. That doesn't check a box. Some Georgia posters liked him. There are posters on this board right now that will defend Oscar Giles, Greg Davis, and Charlie Strong. Does that mean that they crushed it at Texas? Valai is, quite simply, an indefensible hire as an on-field assistant at this point at UT. There is not a single rational point to make supporting the hiring of this guy versus the nameless field. He was fired at Rutgers. Fired as an off-field assistant at Kansas City after one year. Apparently, Smart told him his role was his role, and he could feel free to look elsewhere, so Valai left. In doing so, Georgia immediately shit themselves on the recruiting front to the tune of 2 more top 3 classes. Prior to UGA, the guy tried to be the next Slick Willie Lyles and failed. So here's a coach with one year of on-field coaching experience that ended in termination, and nothing but ignominious outcomes in his career preceding that. That's possibly the next CB coach at Texas. Fuck everything about our lives as fans of this program if that happens.

  20. It's actually not that weird at all. See, what we really want above all is for Texas to stop sucking at football. In the opinion of many, including myself, the quickest way to accomplish this goal is to replace Herman. Since this isn't happening, the next quickest way for Texas to achieve not sucking is for Herman to recognize his failures and hire a kick ass staff. Since this apparently isn't happening either, we are not pleased.

  23. I'm very privileged because of my race, upbringing, and how those enabled me to save and pivot to software where I make probably way too much money for the amount of work I perform. Would absolutely not mind paying more in taxes for universal healthcare, much better and more equal access in primary education, large scale public transit, etc. I know lots of people my age who think similarly, and unsurprisingly meet older people who think that is somehow actual communism. We can hem and haw about the ramifications of more robust social systems and the welfare state, but these ideas are only becoming more popular with millennials and zoomers. I do see this becoming something the US shifts towards even if Biden wins in 2020 and every non-woke Twitter leftist thinks we've somehow returned to normalcy.

  30. I finally got the boat "ready", quit my job, and pushed off the dock for good a week before Christmas. We were trapped in the Fort Myers area for a week while a system spun around but Christmas day brought us a N wind that we used to get to the keys. We've been moving fast ever since trying to get to the exumas. We generally sail a day for 6-10 hours and then take the next day off. We're currently anchored off Highbourne Cay where the Christmas trades are in full force. Winds E at 25 gusting 33 all day and night for 3-5 days straight.

  34. You are missing the point. Republicans are doing this because they care about demographic change. They don't intend to change Republican policy in order to make young people, minorities, and women happy. They intend to completely disenfranchise them so that they can maintain control of the government even as their relative numbers shrink. The old GOP mantra of "courts create law!" was always incorrect. What is actually correct is that the courts, the SCOTUS in particular, have the ability to declare any law constitutional when it is challenged on those grounds. It is why pretty much every administration and Senate from every party in our history has tried to appoint qualified people who would stay above the political fray. The Trump administration hasn't done that. This Senate hasn't done that. And the GOP as a whole now seems hell bent on never doing that again. Once enough judges and justices are appointed that don't give a shit about historic precedent or true constitutionality, its over. Laws that ban dissidence start landing Dem politicians and reporters in jail. Clarence Thomas can write "Potato. Trump's suspension of all future elections is Constitutional." There's only one way we can overcome that when it happens, and that is the same way that the North settled the question as to whether the South could secede. It can all come undone much easier than you believe. The entire nation is built on a social compact. The Constitution is just a guide. It only works if we actually want it to. The GOP doesn't want it to work anymore. They also expect that you aren't going to do anything about that.

In the interest of cheering everybody up, I'll take on Sydney's challenge: Pros - -Fud has already cited a solid nickname in Jai Alai -He's young and black, so this immediately makes the whole staff hip and with it -He knows the "grab that bag" concept for street agents and seems to really dig it -Chris Ash really likes him, and Chris Ash knows staff personnel -He can apparently fog a mirror -We don't have a visible way, yet, to prove that his on-field charges at Texas will suck -He's not Drew Mehringer -He's currently unemployed, so he can start immediately -He's a squarehead just like his mentor, so you know there's a lot of grey matter being toted around in that fucking rock -He's never lost to Baylor or Iowa State -If he's really the unqualified, wet fart of a hire that obvious shit seems to be indicating, he does nothing to offset the growing likelihood that the silver lining to Hermanitard not fixing any of his shit will be that he and his entire fucking roster of half-wits and jugheads will all be taken out to the curb and dropkicked onto the street after they underperform and fail miserably to the tune of a 6-6 regular season in 2020 I don't know, the more I think about it, the more I'm really to starting to like this hire.

  37. We did a 7 day trek this past summer. Covered 50 miles in 6 days on the trail, plan on a solid 20% more than the itinerary with route changes, food resupply, etc.. Our longest day was 15 miles because of a route mix up. The boys weren't lost but one ranger told them they should hit a certain camp in the morning before going up Baldy but when we got there the Rangers at that camp said it could only be done after coming down from Baldy, so we had some major backtracking that day. The boys took it in stride. We also caught some rain and a little hail that day, good times. The highlight of our trek was definitely climbing Baldy. It's high, it's a very long day, and it's very steep at the end. But they set it up as a day hike so you don't have packs that day, just lunch, water, and jackets. I can't imagine doing a trek that doesn't include either Baldy or Tooth of Time. Muzzle loading rifles were also a big hit at Miranda and the challenge course at Head of Dean was also great. Team building exercises. We had two 16 year olds, two 15 year olds, and four 14 year olds. The younger kids were just fine. No issues whatsoever. Have a strong personality for the crew leader (it should go without saying here but I'm talking about the scout leader, not the adult leader). The crew leader will be heavily relied on for decision making and delegating tons of tasks. He needs to be someone the whole crew will listen to. The rangers at Philmont will teach them everything they need to know. The packing, the navigating, camp set up, cooking, bear bags, etc... It's good to have seen all that a time or two before you go but if your troop is like ours all the kids have crazy schedules with sports and other extra curriculars and the shakedowns and long hikes you have planned won't always come to fruition. We had one kid who didn't show up to a single training hike at all. He's an athletic kid and ended up hiking stronger than the older kids who were more prepared. Your pre-trek planning won't always work out, don't sweat it. Just show up with the right gear and the ranger will teach them everything all over again anyway. The adults in the crew should be damn near invisible. I had to fight the urge to make the trip into a bonding experience with my son. It's not about that. There will be plenty of shared memories made but it really should be the pinnacle of the boy-led experience. The rangers are adamant that the adults be strictly in the background and shouldn't be involved in any decisions, navigating, or planning on the trail unless lives are about to be in danger. If they get lost, let them. If they move slow and leave camp late, let them. When your kid asks you a question the answer is always, "Go ask your crew leader." We kept a grown up map and the scout navigator for that day kept a separate map. We always hiked at the rear 20-30 yards behind the scouts and kept our navigation ideas and observations to ourselves. Our scouts, who showed up less prepared than we hoped, did just fine. A couple of backtracks but never truly lost.

  39. The DNC liking Hillary over Bernie shouldnt be surprising. Bernie isn't a Democrat. The real issue is that no other Dem ran. They all sat it out for her turn. The DNC likely had a hand in that too. That was really the only unfair thing that occurred. It was never unfair to Bernie. In fact, his path was cleared as much as Hillary's was. He got completely trounced. Bernie Bros forget that every state counts in the primary including the south. They are forgetting that again this year too which is why we are gonna be stuck with Biden.
