I appreciate your response but I don't agree with very much of it Note the bolded part. This, to me, is one of the key problems with the arrangement. This model isn't what Mandel proposed when The All-American was announced (specifically Mandel-- I only subscribed to The Athletic for CFB coverage, and specifically because I've always liked his agenda-free, low-bullshit 10,000-fit view of how the sport operates). It was pitched to users literally as "fuck SI/ESPN/all these places that are laying off the writers you've read for 25+ years, we'll aggregate them here if you're willing to pay for that kind of content". He gave no indication that part of that strategy included recruiting fansites to provide content, either because he didn't intend to do that (I hope), or because he didn't think it would bother people to get the chocolate of "fucking idiot homers raving about Haynes King" in the peanut butter of "the best single source for actual legitimate CFB journalism". I appreciate but don't really care about The Athletic's financial backing. "Oh well it's to improve their bottom line" doesn't excuse either the bait-and-switch feel of the Texags alignment, or extending the All-American's imprimatur to the juvenile and transparently malicious way they report on recruiting. Texags is so far beyond the pale that you can't simply hire out the few sane, clinical pieces they write and disavow the vast majority of what they do. It doesn't work that way. Mandel hired a lot of independent beat writers for the other beats. The AA's Texas writer doesn't have any obvious ties to the school that I can remember. To my recollection, that's actually the most common profile for the beat writers: independent, somewhat disinterested journalists. That is appropriate and attractive in light of what Mandel said The AA was supposed to be about; the alternative of leaning on the rah-rah fan perspective Texags.com provides isn't, and if you can't see the difference, then that's where we fundamentally disagree. Simply put, I think you seriously underestimate the toxicity of Texags.com and Billy Liucci. I grant it may be better known to us than the majority of AA readers, but that doesn't change its existence. They're absolutely beyond excuse and I won't spend a dime on anyone or anything that puts its arm around them and says "these guys are oooooo-kay!" NOTE: I can separate this topic from the A&M recruiting thread if it is obnoxious to anyone else.10 points

Howdy Ags: I just wanted to stop by and congratulate you on a hard-fought game. As a lifelong WAR DAMM EAGLE I feel very fortunate to leave Kyle Field with a "W". A&M showed a lot of fight, and the future is very bright for you as the premier in-state SEC West program in the Great State of Texas. I know that Jimbo will just get your guys better and better, and I'm sure you'll be in the playoff, if not next year, then the year after. Even if my team hadn't prevailed, it still would have been a wonderful experience travelling to College Station. I swear, I'll bet I heard "Howdy" 25,000 times. I was a little apprehensive coming to Texas, as my cousin Cleetus once went to a game at Austin, and told me that at least 75,000 of the fans at their stadium were classless. He is a military veteran and a proud American, and was wearing an American Flag pin. He was spat upon by transsexuals dozens of times, and had numerous beers thrown at his pregnant wife, not to mention the coupons that she was handed for local abortion clinics. But that's not the reception that we got at your magnificent stadium. At one point, I had lost my direction, and an old maroon-wearing lady in a wheelchair rolled up to say "howdy" and to ask if I needed help finding my seat. After helping me find my section, she gave me her address and told me that she would bake me a pecan pie after the game and told me to pick it up on my way home tomorrow. And heck, I hoped to win the game, but I never expected to win halftime, and we sure didn't. The Fightin' Texas Aggie Band was all we could have imagined. What a performance! I can see how y'all are so proud of them, particularly as the entire band is made up of future Generals and Admirals that will keep our nation safe. Anyway, that's all for now. Thanks for an amazing day in beautiful College Station, and I hope that our fans are 1% as welcoming and classy as the Aggies are when you come down to our place.10 points

I think the only fair and balanced solution is to create a Surly association with the Athletic. And let Randolph Duke supply all of the content.8 points

He's a professional liar. He lies on every front, to every person he interacts with, and he does so by choice in order to make money. That's a piece of shit in my view. Has he stolen money from a charity? I don't know, but I think it's a safe assumption that he's done shit like that or worse.6 points

Roach has been criminally misused throughout his career after his freshman season. He calls a spade a spade and says what we're all thinking. I don't find that to be a complaint.6 points

Great post. My single biggest issue with the texags stupidity from The AA is different than yours. My issue is that the alignment offers a tinge of legitimacy to a site that is as crooked and dishonest as any site in the history of the Internet. Most other fans don't have a clue about aggies, much less the improprieties of texags. They'll see their stuff and assume it is established. It's like hearing Geoff Ketchum do interviews on national radio shows as a "journalist" and a reputable source regarding UT athletics. Neither Billy Liucci or Geoff Ketchum are worth the sweat it would take to beat them into a coma. They're terrible people doing terrible things, and anyone giving guys like that credence should also go fuck themselves.6 points

The only other little ray of sunshine on this deal is that my wife complains that whenever she tells me something, I typically look it up online to make sure she isn't completely wrong. I mean, even the simplest shit like the weather forecast. She invariably gets mad at me and says shit like, "What? Don't you believe me. Why are you doubting me? Why can't you just trust what I'm saying? " Now I get to gleefully remind her of this golden fuck up every single gotdam time she gets on my ass about rechecking whatever bullshit fact that she thinks she knows. So I have that going for me. Which is nice.6 points

Just popping in to say that my wife scheduled our Spring Break trip with the kids the week after they actually have Spring Break. I take full responsibility for trusting her crazy ass and not looking the dates up myself, but it's all about the nonrefundable hotel reservations.6 points

Rocket had the first of two femoral head ostectomies yesterday. This one was on the worst side, the one where his hip was basically permanently dislocated because the joint was nonexistent. He's grumpy but less about pain and more because he can't jump on Edgar and keeps wacking into everything with the cone. They'll operate on the other side in a few months once this side is healed up. Chapman threw an 84mph spinner out over the plate. Any competent MLB hitter should put good wood on that even without a buzzer. But y'all know what? They cheated in 2017. Did other teams cheat too? Probably, but there's a good chance it'll never be confirmed. And y'all know what else? Flags fly forever. Fuck dumpster Fiers. Fuck Manfred. Fuck the Dodgers, Yankees, and the Red Sox. Everyone outside of Houston hates the Astros and fuck them too. This team will be playing with a major chip on their shoulder this year, and I don't want to think they'll let us down. I'm just hoping for a Julia dance dance routine after the clinching game of the World Series.5 points

I once got stuck in immigration at the Madrid airport with two other non-EU citizens. It was me, Hakeem Olajuwon and his agent. We hung out and talked for over an hour. Once we were released and began to part ways, I yelled "Hakeem!" and as he looked at me I ripped open my shirt to reveal my David Robinson chest tattoo while yelling "behold the greatest Center of all time!" /csb Ok, the David Robinson tattoo part didn't happen.4 points

Bellinger hit .143 with 17 K's in the 2017 world series then backed up that shit stain performance with a .063, 6 k's in 16 AB performance in the 2018 WS. The guy is in pure deflection mode - he has proved he cannot handle the big stage and may have single handily cost his team two titles due to his choke jobs.4 points

I'm not a Bernie voter. I've stated who I'm voting for two dozen times on this board. However, I'll admit that he is my second choice. I'd rather move left than right if (when) my candidate loses. Obama wanted a public option with the ACA and Hillary/Bill were pushing for universal health care 30 years ago. The Democrats were always pro-union/workers' rights. I'm pretty sure they're the only party at the moment (that can win) that cares about the environment. I seriously doubt Bernie will pass any tax rates higher than what existed at some point in the 20th century before our decades long experiment in failed trickle down economics. He doesn't seem too out of line. Yeah, the far left Democrats are very scary and radical. We should be very afraid of the FDR-type Democrats running and nominate someone that the new George. W. Bush wing of the Democratic party feels more comfortable and safe with.4 points

i do find it amusing that the dipshit brigade started to rear its head in the thread finally when the topic became about the personal biases of a juror after pages and pages of avoiding the topic of an attorney general doing to the president's bidding in overriding a sentencing recommendation that was by the book for a political friend who had been found guilty by a jury of some pretty fucking serious crimes. and the fact that four u.s. attorneys have withdrawn from the case in protest does not warrant their comment but a retweet from one of the jurors causes their heads to explode. they truly are shameless pieces of shit with absolutely no ethical or moral boundaries. they are willing participants in a cult of personality that applauds the irrational and the vile. this situation is absolutely indefensible to anyone who cares about the health of the country. there is literally nothing about it that can be spun and decent or appropriate and it is the type of shit that we used to make fun of south american banana republics and russia for...and now they giggle at it and make up some horseshit trolling line of trump brilliantly orchestrating the whole thing to get a juror's personal opinions impeached. shameful and pathetic.4 points
