It’s truly breathtaking how much important shit Jared Kushner doesn’t accomplish. Seems every time I pick up a newspaper there’s another story about Kushner zooming from one massive unfinished project to the next. One day, he’s busy not bringing peace to the Middle East. The next, he’s parachuting in to make zero progress slowing down a global pandemic. And now we’re reading that this wunderkind of unfinished business has been burning the midnight oil behind the scenes to scuttle billion dollar deals for critical medical equipment. Is there any task so big that Jared Kushner can’t not get it done?22 points

Not sure where to put this, but I just got my wife pretty good. She had just posted a picture on Facebook of our youngest, on our bed, doing a Google Meet with some of his classmates. The majority of her current FB friends are other teachers in the district and childhood friends from TN. When she wasn't looking, I put a bottle of lube and a condom on the night stand, behind where my son was working. I then hurried into the bedroom to let her know that the picture is great - especially with the lube and condom on the background. She immediately looks at the night stand and sees the goods. You should have heard her yell. It was awesome.19 points

Yesterday the need for ventilators was overblown. Today it's an emergency. I wouldn't let this guy manage a Whataburger.11 points

I would spend 14 days locked in the Cloak Room than listen to a single Clay Travis Coronavirus take.11 points

Why wouldn't we have added one extra billion to the 2T stimulus package for ventilators? We elect the dumbest mother fuckers, probably only because you have to be an idiotic sociopath to get into politics.11 points

That was TABC trying to rein in what Abbott put out there. The horse is out of the barn, and a bunch of restaurants I know are saying “fuck it” and selling anyway. Fuck TABC10 points

These are two good companion pieces that weren't necessarily meant to be. 1. Published 3/20. It ran some math to predict numbers, and has been prescient. In fact, things have been slightly worse. https://finance.yahoo.com/news/hell-coming-mathematical-proof-185019616.html?soc_src=community&soc_trk=fb 2. From The Atlantic today. https://www.theatlantic.com/health/archive/2020/03/how-will-coronavirus-end/608719/?fbclid=IwAR13fspWXu4LVFP90mFCLL71MgeP8i7nE3tqfKaNZlLdhzbJlecZ0Zdjqno Fuck Trump. The exacerbation described in these articles are on him and his administration. Anyone that says otherwise is frankly an idiot. Why we weren't spending the drop in the bucket to produce masks, ventilators and fucking tests in early February is an absolute failing. You can argue no president would. Fuck your hypotheticals. This president didn't. And he said there would be close to zero cases less than a month ago. We should NEVER let society forget that. That single statement fuels a moral imperative that folks vote him out of office. If you vote for him in November, you are immoral and/or stupid.10 points

Kushner is a bag man. He went to the MidEast to collect money. He was trying to set up back channels to Russia to collect money. I've been wondering about the money to be made on a pandemic that is allowed to go uncontrolled. Trump refuses to order supplies to be made after stalling the response. That drives up demand for ventilators and other supplies. Trump prefers a deal be made. He sends Kushner. FEMA balks at the price. Why would the price be exorbitant? Excessive? Kushner was sent to collect money. I have no link or evidence. I have only deductions. The states are in a bidding war for supplies. Money flows. Who could stop that? Trump. Why wouldn't he stop it? Money. Trump is overplaying his hand. His lack of empathy blocks him from seeing the resentment he'll generate by subjecting so many citizens to gruesome illness and death. He can't escape the public statements and continued callousness. When people have family and friends suffering, they will focus. They will want to know why. Wouldn't it be a crime against humanity to refuse medical help to your own countrymen? To actively block aid that could have been delivered? Donald Trump is the worst man of my time on earth. He is rotten to his soulless core. He is the face of the United States of America right now. Enormous shame and ongoing horror. So much suffering. So little sense to it.10 points

What. The everloving. FUCK????? How can anyone support him? He's fucking brain damaged. I literally don't even KNOW anyone that fucking stupid. Seriously, the dumbest fucking moron that I know, knows that this is a fucking virus, and that scientists know exactly what it is. Trump fans: you fellate the dumbest fucking mouthbreathing moron to have ever held office. Remember how we used to make fun of "Go Gata," and "what if Guam capsizes?" Sorry, those comments are fucking Nobel Prize level genius compared to the fucking idiocy coming out of your GOD"S mouth. You worship stupid. And worship necessary means that you believe the object of worship is BETTER than you. You pathetic fuckers think this moron is BETTER than. Sweet Jesus, how stupid does that make YOU?9 points

Wanted to report back from the Retail Front. It's been a week or so since my last update. I'm not putting this in the Virus thread but that thread is insane at this point. Anyway, consumer buying has waned a bit but is still strong. Foot traffic is down from its peak 10 days ago (thank God) but it is still relatively strong and baskets are still big. Big Food has also hit their limit. Almost all of the major players are completely out of everything and are able to make maybe 60% of current demand. (This varies by category.) Assortments are being drastically reduced. No more long tail items. It'll only be the basics and even then it will take Big Food 2-4 weeks to catch up and even then, they'll have to allocate. Shelves may be empty for a few weeks in some cases and smaller players are being told it may be months before they get anything at all. Consumption has definitely changed. With no one eating out anymore, people are eating prolly double or triple than what they were previously eating before. The American food industry is weird. There is actually quite a bit of food in the network, it's just divided up between Food Service and Retail. You're starting to see some redirection in that now. Some that previously went to FS is now being modified to consumer retail. All the major chains are still selling out of everything they have. Also, it may have been covered in the other thread but truckers all got letters from their employers that designates them emergency essential personnel so in the event of domestic travel bans, they'll be able to cross state lines. For the non grocery retailers (apparel and the like), I honestly don't know how some of these guys are going to survive. I saw where Gap suspended its dividend today. They won't be only one. This segment was particularly strained before all of this but this could be the nail in the coffin for a lot of them. I don't see current trends changing anytime in the next few months.9 points

1) Haven't looked into the UT model yet. Will do and assumptions are definitely the starting point. 2) We are probably doing better than 50% just looking at how people are behaving. It may be showing up in the numbers this week as we've had a run of good days, but I don't think enough to call it a trend just yet. 3) If we are under reporting infected, it's a good thing actually. The way a virus spreads isn't exponential, it is close to a sigmoid: If we are 4x further along the curve than reported cases show, then the transmissivity is less than we think and the growth rate function there at the bottom peaks lower. The math behind this is kind of hard to explain, but the slope of the sigmoid above flattens which lowers the overall peak of the chart commonly posted. And because we are saying we are further along than we are, it is shrinking the curve moreso than the usual flattening where it pushes out to a later date. It also means that hospitalization, intubation, and mortality rates are 1/4 of what we think. 4) Same thing with long incubation periods or large asymptomatic cases. Most of the media takes that "omg, this is everywhere already" actually point to this being a lesser deal. I mean if it was everywhere back in February, then it really is flu-like as there have been relatively few severe cases until now. Adding a million "didn't even know they had it" cases makes this thing look more trivial, not more dangerous. It kills the narrative of those pushing it. 5) Most of the literature I've looked at avoids using the term "infected" as a category of people. There are exposed people (have the virus but can't spread), and infectious people (have the virus and can spread). If the disease is doubling every 3 days, and the incubation period is 6 days, then there are 4x as many exposed + infectious people as there are infectious people. But that's just semantics. There aren't really 4x as many cases. But I can't be sure that is what is meant when someone says "infected." It's one of those things lost in translation when scientific jargon gets simplified with no further explanation.9 points

"This pandemic or this disease uhmm, this uh, this, whatever you want to call it, you call it germ, you can call it a flu, you can call it a virus, you can call it many different names. Clay Travis is an idiot. He can't read a simple graph that shows that the spike in death rate will lag behind the spike in cases by 7-14 days. In two weeks if what he says holds true we can all celebrate.8 points

So we could have spent $3 billion in January, and had 240,000 ventilators to pass around by now? That plus some masks and wipes and we could have all gone about our business? Some government officials expressed concern about the possibility of ordering too many ventilators, leaving them with an expensive surplus. Hmm, surplus or another huge bailout and more deaths? Hard to choose which is worse.8 points
