  1. Shaka to Marquette. Don't let the door hit you on the way out.

  2. I think he will do well there, especially if he gets some good assistants. I don't harbor any ill will for Shaka, but he had to go. The Big 12 is a meat grinder filled with elite coaches and he was AT BEST middle of the pack. The Big East will be much easier sledding. He ran a clean program, graduated kids, navigated us through Andrew Jones and Covid. I'll root for him honestly. But we need someone much better.

  3. on Around the Horn just now they did a segment on Shaka, with Reali asking, "do you leave a job like Texas for Marquette?" Cowlishaw went first and said, "you leave Texas for Marquette if you've been at Texas for six years, have a losing record in Big XII play, you can't get past the first round, you find a way to lose to Abilene Christian when they shoot 30%..." Reali cuts him off and says, "so you're saying Shaka saw the writing on the wall at Texas?" and Cowlishaw says, "Lotta writing on the wall for Shaka, looked like Charlie Kelley's wall." amazing response from Cowlishaw. πŸ˜‚

  4. I seriously doubt he quit. They gave him the dignity to leave on his own or he was about to be shit canned. Good riddance you fucking loser. You make Rick Barnes look like Coach K and that is hard to do. You had one fluke run a decade ago and still living off that. You fucking suck.

  5. Shaka was so bad he turned UT into a stepping stone job.

  6. Good on Shaka for going out gracefully and not holding the AD hostage like both Herman and Mack did. Resigned with some dignity, landed on his feet, and most importantly, he's not our problem anymore. Perfect way for it all to unfold. Win win for everyone. Good job CDC and Shaka. Hope he does well at Marquette.

  8. Hasn't won a tournament game since 2013? Man you'd have to be pretty shitty to have that kind of history.

  11. Here's a guide for people who are new to the coaching search: Will our new coach leave an NBA job for us? No Will our new coach leave a college job they've been at for 20+ years/won a championship with/have turned down NBA interviews during this time? No Will our new coach be the guy with the 53 million dollar buyout? No

  16. This guy on the marquette basketball board He gets it Did people not watch his Texas teams and still think this is the VCU guy? His Texas teams were all highly ranked recruits that stood around and watched a guy create off the dribble. No ball movement, no synergy, the opposite of exciting. On defense they didn't try to create TO's and they rebounded poorly. Literally exactly what we just fired. I'm perplexed by this "exciting" brand of basketball narrative.

  20. This isn't football. Finish in the top half of the Big 12 and make the tournament 80-90% of the time. Play to seed. Finish in the top 3 of the conference frequently. Win the conference once (no, the conference tournament doesn't count) every 5-10 years. Make a deep run in the tounament every 3-4 years. That'll keep most of the fans at bay.

  23. Good for Shaka. I don't have any hate for this guy and don't understand why anyone would. He couldn't coach this team very well, but unlike some of our uh, other coaches in other sports, wasn't an egotistical dick. I really did feel sorry for the guy. I think he knew he was over his head a bit - he certainly got a lot less out front through the years, but maintained his upbeat nature without sounding too plastic. Even in this transfer, rather than let UT hang out on its own payoff noose, he did the right thing and sought another job when the plane was near the mountain. I truly wish him good luck and for the first time in awhile, am really sorry that it didn't work out here. He's a better guy than what happened here. Chris Beard would be the best basketball coach, by far, not even close, if he's hired. That's all I got.

  24. Sophomore year at Southwest Texas State University (1986) Larry McMurtry came to Al's English class to read a few chapters of Lonesome Dove. He and the lady Professor were friends and was there to share his novel with her classes. This was a Thursday class so it ran an hour and a half, I stuck around for the next class because the few chapters he read wasn't enough. He did allow for questions afterwards and was engaging with the students, this was all in a classroom that fit no more than 30 students in Flowers Hall. One of the better 3 hour learning blocks in young Al's undergraduate education.

  28. Daily Texan board is that way, bruh. Feel free to toss in a couple quick followups, like: "How does not giving someone in line water help with election integrity?" "How does limiting hours to right after work ends help with election security?" "What does it feel like to be a fascist piece of human shit that should rot in hell?"

We had a blast recording this interview and we hope you have a blast listening to it. We talk about a wide variety of topics including his recruitment, his time at Texas on and off the field through 3 coaching regimes and some topics that have absolutely nothing to do with anything except life.

  30. What sort of buyout is Marquette going to have to pay for stealing away Shaka while he's under contract to us?
    8 points
  31. LMAO. If the BOR and Hartzell say we can afford $7M annual, we can afford $7M annual. I'm not asking questions. I love it when Texas fans get fussy about coaching salaries. They are completely inconsequential. Pay 'em, don't pay 'em, I don't care, but it's not causing my daughter's tuition to jump if we throw money at Chris Beard. It's just not.

  33. "Marquette buddy of mine says Smart wont happen as he evidently pissed off the AD and BMD by bailing on a handshake agreement to go there when the UT job opened up. That will be 9.95 etc. " My post on the Fire Shaka thread didn't age well. Thank god. My Marquette guy is ready to blow his brains out. I told him he has no idea.
