Thanks. I have been on the boards since 1997 when I was a student at Texas. We've spent decades as fans and board patrons feeling powerless to create any real change. The Internet, social media, and time building knowledge and money have brought us to the point where we can actually do something about this sport we love. My expectation is that this does indeed help this staff, the players, future players, and the program. If we could start winning at an elite level again, that would justify the effort we have put in since early July when it became immediately evident that the Athletic Department wasn't going to be a help. If Texas, its layers of fanbase from the BMDs to the middles to the everyday fans, the city of Austin, and the state of Texas are truly able to harness the competitive advantages within NIL's framework, UT can have an engine built that very few other programs can rival and will put these silly ass, dark market bagman games to absolute shame. @immamac @RGBIII @SydneyCarton @GlenFromTheMailRoom @SquishMitten and several folks not on this board, including Bobby Burton, played huge roles in getting this going. @texifornia @Burt Macklin @Dbeasy @henrygandorf and a number of other folks (shout yourself out for positive rep if you're not named) helped get this from idea to a germinating sapling as well. Here's to bigger and better.126 points

There are a few people where who are on the board of this cool little charity that we made that is going to be focused on the intersection of Charitable works and Name Image and Likeness for UT Student-Athletes of all sports. Our first initiative will be dubbed the Pancake Factory. You can find more information here: https://hornswithheart.org/ Thanks and Hook 'Em56 points

Note: Originally posted in 2006 on Hornfans by user Wide-e-wide. After much deliberation, I will reluctantly tell the story of my family touring the Christmas lights in Waco last week. My wife told me about this thing at the beginning of December. To be honest I had forgotten all about it until the night before. I did not want to go. Call me a scrooge but riding around looking at electricity captured in colored bulbs is not my idea of entertainment. However, the kids were looking forward to it and apparently at some point I had agreed to do it. This little tour got us for 6 bucks a head. My wife, her parents, our 4 kids and I all went. Now I wasn’t a math major but that's $48 to ride around in a trolley and look at lights. WTF? (I found this out the day of) So we drive all the way the hell to downtown Waco and sit and wait for this trolley to take us on the tour. They’ve got a tree, Santa, hot cocoa- All that shit. Finally all the trolleys roll up and Shaquandra our official Christmas lights tour guide hops out and says “Y’all going to look at the lights?....(pause) Okay den let’s get our roll on!” My initial gripe is that the bitch is driving at mach speed and you can’t see shit but a blurry-ass Santa and the occasional Wal-Mart $9.99 wire light-up reindeer. My father-in-law asks if she could slow down a bit so that we could take pictures and appreciate the lights a little more..(his words not mine). By this time I’ve already leaned over and whispered in my wife’s ear “$48 for this shit?” She gives me the obligatory elbow and “stop being like that” We roll along for about 15 minutes looking at every tacky piece of shit overkill light extravaganza in East Waco. Suddenly we get on the highway and start heading to the other side of town. We ride for a good 12-15 minutes without seeing a single damn house decorated. So I lean over to the wife again and say “umm where the hell are we going?” Elbow “shut up” and all that again. Shaquandra has Mariah Carey’s Christmas cd blasting and we just getting our roll on...and then it happened. Signs and streets started to look really familiar. My oldest daughter says “hey there’s HEB.” As in the HEB right down the road from our house (approx. 1/2 mile) I lean over to the wife again “This bitch better not turn right at this light!” What does the driver do????? That’s right folks, fucking turns right and heads right to our neighborhood. Not only our neighborhood “BUT OUR FUCKING STREET!! I am just at a loss for words by this point. I cannot believe this is happening. Street after street, house after house for a good 30 minutes. The driver is going on and on about “oooh like over thurr- look at the Santa up on the roof kids.” I know bitch “I'M THE ONE THAT FUCKING PUT HIS FAT ASS UP THERE LAST WEEK" I can’t type this anymore it's just too painful. The point is, we spent almost $50 to look at the Christmas lights in our own damn neighborhood. My wife just hung her head in shame. I’ll be in charge of Christmas spirit next year thank you very much.46 points

Here's the problem with this kind of comment and the kind of logic that aggies have already starting throwing out there too - it's pretty fucking hard to do this kind of thing without a Phil Knight. There is a shit ton of catherding and hustle and sales. I see similar kinds of comments when I've been a part of a start-up or small business exit: "Oh yeah, I always thought about doing that too." Did you? Cool. It's like start-up Santa Claus just shows up to selected doorsteps and makes it all happen for people. Ideas are free. The hustle is sold separately. Getting an idea from the ether and then into a vision, to a strategy, then to tactics with measurable actions and results, and owning the risk in putting in all of that effort - that shit is complicated trending towards chaos. Good luck just whipping things right up and also making them sustainable.46 points

seeing aggy crying about us making this a charitable situation reminded me that one of my first pieces of feedback in early august was to make sure it was tied to a charity for tax purposes, write-offs, etc so now i'm going to take full credit for that part of it and for aggy being bent the fuck out of shape. you're welcome.36 points

Funniest part about the A&M "of course we have this" reactions is that they expect people to believe that they, A&M, had a first in the country program that would pay players and lead to recruiting success and didn't tell everyone about it constantly since the moment it started. Be serious. A&M fans are the vegan crossfitters of college sports.32 points

It’s all fun and games to make fun of Texas for not winning with our resources. And like clockwork, as soon as Texas flexes it’s muscle a little bit everybody is going to start bitching.23 points

I'm waiting for @Pato del Muertoto return and tell us how the timing for this thing, particularly with Cristobal publicly accepting the Miami job this morning and the OL impacts there, was just poorly planned by "power brokers" who don't know shit about publicity, the internet, or making things go viral. Clearly this whole thing was a fucking massive failure and a giant catastrophe. I'm so embarrassed.23 points

Kudos to all that have put all these deals together, both heard and unheard of, to help get Texas Football to where it should be. As a current Surly poor, I'll speak for those who won't say thank you. Even to the small donors of our own Burnt Ends deal. Thank you and let's fucking go!!!23 points

Well, when TE was first mentioned in the original NIL thread, the logic was that it was a manageable position for a smaller amount of money to lead to a meaingful impact on the players. Things took off from there. For OL, bags being dropped on any OL of consequence has created problems for schools not dropping bags, like Texas, for a decade+ now. So, the way you get positions to have a chance to stop sucking is to make the money right for others that might have looked elsewhere. It's not a perfect plan, but I and others aren't Walt Disney or Steve Jobs, so a good plan that can be executed on right now felt like it made plenty of sense.18 points

I think it was a bullshit move. Defenders have to be hyper careful, in order not to get a penalty on a sliding QB. It was clear the defender thought he was sliding a pulled up. Should be a 15 yard penalty, just like the defender would've gotten if he'd hit him in the slide.18 points

It's ironic, he just described their entire bag plan the last 3 years. The only difference is that he might be realizing that he's pimping a fine ass DVD player, and we're streaming platforms.17 points

The guy who has contributed literally nothing on any level to anything associated with NIL while living on this board with almost 25,000 posts has shown up to tell everyone else what to do. Your posts here show your ignorance on the subject, but given your posting proclivities, we know that won't stop you.16 points
