  1. It is remarkable where this is going. It's like something out of our collective fantasies. I view what's unfolding as proof that God hasn't fully turned his back on our fanbase, as he's sending this up for us in year 13 of our wandering in the desert. -Their boosters are meddling and pushing. -They think Jimbo Fisher would be some sort of magical CEO As Head Coach with no foundation to support that. This guy is a room temperature IQ egotist with Napoleon Complex. -They think Jimbo Fisher would willingly abdicate playcalling duties with no foundation to support that. That's a massive part of his identity. -They believe a hot shot OC would come to College Station and light his career on fire by agreeing to be constantly subverted by Fisher for an extra $1million. Hot shot OCs aren't HS recruits. They know what they're doing in their career and their goal is usually a HC gig. They're not torching that for one paycheck at a dead end debacle of a job. ATM's best hope is a Mark Whipple type who really is looking for just a paycheck, but that kind of guy and Fisher will blend like oil and water. He already has the guy least likely to give a shit about getting anything done as an OC in Dickey. -They're telling themselves "but we're young". -They think Weigman, a guy with concussion problems in the past, will save the day behind that offensive line. -Addazio and Durkin both being shitty and emblematic of Fisher's history of getting stale and hiring downgrades when coaches leave. I don't know how you downgrade from Dickey, Addazio and Craig in the offseason, but I expect to see Fisher pull it off. -The offensive line is so conclusively bad that they're now incapable of glossing it, and it is getting worse. @bizzle told us declaratively heading into the season that Fatheree was a day 1 NFL pick. That one is going to be fucking hilarious to track. -They're going full Hornfans and admonishing each other about being respectful because "kids read these boards!!" and the part where they're worrying about Fisher's douchebag kid is the cherry on top. It keeps getting better and better. If Johnson is out and King is the guy against Bama and then again on the road at SCar, they really could be headed for a losing season here. That time when Liucci attempted to claim, with no factual support, that Sarkisian had been forced to name Ewers QB1 by boosters while something like that would never happen at ATM is aging like egg salad at a summer picnic. That program is being swamped with demands from numerous sides right now, all the while Fisher is trying to convince people to help him buy more recruits and players from the portal because the guys on campus aren't cutting it.

  4. For context, the 2022 Defense Dept Budget is $752.9 Billion. $16.8 Billion is 2.2% of the annual defense budget. Let's look at just some of what we got for that 2.2% of the annual defense budget. 1) Save a fledgling democracy, giving us a chance to stick up for our principles. This has united most Americans across the aisle, at a time when that has become incredibly rare. 2) Restores credibility of US intel agencies that had suffered badly since 2003. 3) Shows why NATO is critical. Until Russia invaded, the necessity of NATO was openly questioned publicly and frequently. Open Russian aggression reveals that NATO is absolutely critical to US and European stability. 4) Strengthens NATO. NATO gains Sweden and Finland and soon will be able to add Ukraine. That gives NATO 2 new bordering countries with Russia plus the ability to hinder the Russian Black Sea Fleet and completely bottle up the Russian Baltic Sea Fleet in port. 4) Destroys the bulk of the professional Russian army, along with their equipment. Also destroys the ability for Russia to replenish and rebuild that equipment, rendering Russia impotent for at least the next decade or so. 5) Shows that US equipment is utterly dominant versus Russian tech, which almost certainly also applies to Chinese tech. You want shit that works and works well? Buy USA. 6) Makes it much less likely China tries to take Taiwan by force. Even not even considering military aspects, their economy would be destroyed instantly by sanctions. All that for 2.2% of the annual defense budget, $16.8 Billion. That's one of the best returns on investment in history. Anyone criticizing the US sending aid to Ukraine does not have US strategic interests in mind.

  9. Based on my understanding of the culture of the Russian Army, I don't think we should at all assume that this encounter was consensual. And that would really suck--here you are, a poor Russian conscript getting face-raped by a fucking corporal . . . and then you get blown up by a Ukrainian mortar. That's a shitty day. Back then, my father worked for an airline and we flew everywhere non-rev. So we were supposed to leave on the Lufthansa flight on Saturday (I think) from St. Petersburg to Frankfurt, but it was full. We couldn't catch any other flights out that day, so we went back to our hotel. It just didn't occur to any of us that our visas were expiring that day. We show up the next morning for the Lufthansa flight. No problem--plenty of seats. Sadly, no upgrade. In those days, they used to upgrade non-revs pretty frequently. But as I recall, we got an upgrade to Business on the connecting flight from Frankfurt to Dallas. Anyhoo . . . Then we go through immigration, and the guy notices that our visas had expired the previous day. There's a long discussion between the immigration officer and Dmitri (our driver), and Dmitri comes back and very gravely informs us that "this is the worst of all possible worlds." So there is some further discussion in Russian between Dmitri and the immigration officer, during which the immigration officer walks off and rifles through our bags that are still on the x-ray machine. It all takes about ten minutes. And Dmitri then comes back and says that the immigration officer wants a "bottle." What? We're all puzzled. Turns out, my father was bringing back something like 8 bottles of Stolichnaya, which at that time you could get for about $2. My father's like "fuck that dude," and goes over to the little immigration booth and slaps a $5 bill on the counter. The immigration guy's eyes get big and he starts yelling in Russian, and Dmitri very quickly grabs the $5 bill, tucks it into one of our passports, and slides the passports back over to the immigration officer. The passports are quickly stamped and we hustle our happy American asses off to the Lufthansa gate.

  11. Shit. I have been doing that for the past 10 years. It's the American Way. "Lisa, if you don’t like your job, you don’t go on strike. You just go in every day and do it really half-assed. That’s the American way.”- Homer J Simpson

  13. This is correct. My father was on the ground. I had the honor of knowing SFC Shuggart as part of my dad's team. These guys went in knowing they were in trouble. The Pakistani response group sucked and retreated, and they still went in. The training was there. The major issue was relying on others to support. It is a major reason US forces operate as independent groups vs. under the UN banner. We learned from it, modified our plans, and people like General Scott Miller (who was also there) applied them for future operations. There was a lot of soul searching after this event. RIP to all we lost.

  16. The problem between Jimbo and Henson is that one of them knows how to coach and develop a good OL and the other guy is an egomaniac who wants everything done his way despite a mountain of evidence it doesn’t work. I think you might be able to figure out which guy is still at A&M.
