  1. Lifelong conservative. I voted third-party in '16 and abstained in '20. Last week I voted blue for both president and senator for the first time.

  2. This kind of stuff makes me ragey beyond belief. How DARE these entitled, clueless men preach about something that is entirely hypothetical to them. Yesterday I read this New Yorker article about the conservative strategy to ban abortion nationwide, and the article starts by talking about a proposition on the ballot in Amarillo called the "Sanctuary City for the Unborn Ordinance." In addition to banning abortion in the city, it also would prohibit people who live in Amarillo from getting abortions in other states. (Can they even do that? What the actual fuck?) The "sanctuary city movement" is spearheaded by this dickhead named Mark Lee Dickson, a minister from East Texas. I googled him and this is part of his bio: "Mark Lee Dickson is a God-fearing, Texas born and raised, pro-life activist who fights for the rights of all human beings from conception till natural death." Y'all, I was about to pop OFF. "Till natural death", unless it's a pregnant woman, I assume? That's when I lose the ability to fight for my own life, right? You say "till natural death" but you really mean "till natural death as long as you're not pregnant and in a position to have to choose your life or the baby's." And the whole thing about having exceptions for the life of the mother is bullshit, too - all this says to me is that I have to be on death's door before they'll "allow" an abortion. What is the line? Do I have to lose consciousness? Wait till I start bleeding out? I lost a pregnancy in 2010 and had to have a D&C. I wanted that baby more than anything and the irony was not lost on me that I was having the same procedure as many women who have elective abortions. But I will fight every day for women to be able to make that decision for themselves. Hell, indeed, hath no fury like a woman scorned, and we are beyond scorned. We are furious. Mark Lee Dickson and his ilk better get ready because we're done being treated like second-class citizens. Women get shit done. It may not happen now, and it may take some time, but we WILL get our rights back, and fuck anyone who stands in the way.

  3. Anyone with a functioning not hate rotted brain understands what's going on. Kamala is the only choice for the majority of the country. One candidate is pulling up in garbage trucks painted bright orange in a costume not on Halloween and the other is the current serving Vice President of the United States juggling her job and closing out one of the most competent political campaigns of many of our lifetimes. We are not going back.

  4. I’m From what I’ve seen from other converts, the scales will slowly fall from your eyes. It starts with “I have to hold my nose and vote for Dems for the sake of sanity and decorum.” Two years later, you’re perusing platforms to educate yourself on the off-year candidates and it hits you: “The Dems actually make sense about a lot of things.” By the next election cycle, you’re working your way through the back catalog of Behind the Bastards and thinking “How the fuck did I ever support this nefarious Reagan shitbag?” Enjoy the journey.

  9. I think a lot of people on here have no idea what women were not allowed to do on their own. It wasn't until the 1960's that women could get a bank account on their own. It was 1974 when we could get credit cards. MAGA wants to make women 100% dependent on men because they believe that women are here on earth to serve them. FUCK THEM.

  16. My Jewish nieces just started at Episcopal school because the catholic school boys circled up and shouted “Heil Hitler” at them, and the school and bishop did nothing because god forbid they discipline BMD kids. They missed the perfect chance to promote ecumenical inclusion and to nip antisemitism in the bud. Cowards.

If The Economist had a vote, we would cast it for Kamala Harris." https://www.economist.com/leaders/2024/10/31/a-second-trump-term-comes-with-unacceptable-risks

  21. Js1's points above are why confidence in a Harris win should not be irrational. I had all those feeling about Hillary Clinton. She was incredibly qualified to be President, far more so than Trump. But for all of the reasons above I was one of the multitude of Democratic voters who were unenthusiastic about voting for Hillary, and I also had in the back of my mind that Trump might just be a harmless buffoon. But I still voted for her, and there may have been a significant number of those who voted for Obama in 2008 and 2012 who sat that one out. Now we have a candidate injecting some fresh energy into the presidential race, much more so than Biden in 2020, in contrast with just how incredibly embarrassing, dangerous, and just plain shitty Trump's character and leadership has revealed. I think that's going to bring a lot more voters back to support the Democratic nominee, as well as the very promising demographic of new voters. I feel better about Harris than I did about Biden in 2020.

  22. I have irrational confidence that Harris wins and by quite a bit. Well, I'm not sure it is irrational, but isn't based on hard data.

  24. Nicolle Wallace played earlier a series of clips of Trump calling democrats "vile, disgusting, evil, vermin", etc. This double standard where one party gets to say whatever they want at any time, and the other is playing by the rules like it's still 1988.... Not sure I can take another cycle of it without losing my fucking mind.
