Spikes Car Radio has me into Sheffield watches right now. Picked up an A1 Driver a month ago for summer pool time. Now I’m leaning towards picking up the new Rally. Just not sure it will take much wrist time away from my El Primero which is my daily.

They’re going to do some releases later in the year with a Swiss movement.

Anyone else like this brand? The affordability makes them dangerous.

Really digging the look of the Baltic Aquascaphe. Don't think I'll get it though... I'm going to save up for a Black Bay.

I think that's the right choice. Textured dials are in vogue right now, but they feel like a fad that will eventually look outdated down the road.

my son is graduating from highschool this academic year (next May) and I'd like to get him an affordable but nicer watch.

He has 4 watches now, two old school digital he likes (funny when we were growing up they weren't old school, they was modern marvels). he also has two traditional style both fossil (i wouldn't have gotten two of the same brand but whateves).  I ain't buying him a digital.

What's your guys fav watches at say sub $750?

The Seiko SPB143 is just above that price range.  It can be found for around $900 sometimes.  Another Submariner clone, but I like it.  It's a throwback to their 1965 dive watch.  I dig the satin sheen dial.

Have a Seiko solar unit that stem is not working properly and was quoted $260 for repair which is probably over double what the watch is worth anybody no somewhere to try to get it fixed reasonably in Houston area.

That’s $575 at Macy’s right now. I have similar looking Citizen Promaster Titanium Diver that $460

If he wants something sporty, look into the Seiko Alpinist line.

I've gone to my Seiko Alpinist as my daily wearer the past couple of years.  It's been running 5 minutes fast everyday though, any ideas where to get it serviced in Austin?

Not mine, but this is what it looks like.

If I had to pick today I think it would be the seiko style first recommended - this one or the black version of this one …

the longines is nice but that seems more like a college grad gift.

$575 doesn’t seem like an over spend for an 18 year old that likes watches.

The gmt hand seems like an annoyance otherwise I like that whole line.

I use gmt hands not for gmt but for home time when I'm traveling. Rest of the time they're set to the same time so the hands are stacked.

Hadn’t thought about that. That’s a pretty cool way to use it.

Not a fan of any watch that has the date function randomly tossed somewhere on the dial

It's not completely random.  Seiko on the 007 and some others, including that one, rotated the movement so the crown/stem isn't at 90 degrees so as not to dig into your wrist.  The date wheel goes with it.

I haven't found the crown digging in to be much of an issue.

However, my watch during most of college was a Hamilton Field Watch like this.  image-asset.jpeg?format=2500w

And the crown created this sort of callus on my wrist.  I didn't know it was happening, I couldn't feel it.  But on the rare occasion I took off the watch, I could see this little patch of skin that was different from the rest.  For a sec, I actually thought It was leprosy or some shit.😬😬
