Non-Texas Recruiting 2022

I’ve been reading over on Red Raider Insider or whatever the fuck their 247 site is called. It’s sad. Here are some things I noticed:

-a lot of them think this is about blocking Tech, Baylor, UH and TCU from stealing quality recruits. You read that correctly.

-they have an almost uniform understanding that Texas and OU will be lame duck partners in the Big 12 through 2025 with no power or control.

-they’re going to the Pac 12 with the hippies. A few are noticing that their tv ratings are “in decline” and “not good” since the firing of Mike Leach. It’s like a scene in a horror movie where one of the people in the scene starts to realize that they’re not being taken where they were told they were being taken but no one else is paying any attention.

-pleas for Art Briles to save them.

-some believe they’re living under the curse of Mike Leach, which I hope is true.

-somehow Chris Beard played a hand in all of this.

-oh, btw, Adams has assembled perhaps the greatest roster in the history of Texas Tech basketball.

-OU is not to blame with all of this. It’s evil Texas and they hope to never play us in any sport ever again when this is over (until we call to schedule something).

-they have zero interest in doing anything to support anyone else in the Big 12 or keeping the conference intact. Maybe, maaaayyyybe they’d work with Oklahoma State if that could get them into the Pac 12.

I’ve read 4 threads. That board is a hidden gem and I wish I had more time.

It seems like the DB recruiting paints the picture (to me) first you had Pride and Covil once they were in the boat and the class floor was set the focus went to the big fish in Everette and Sabb.

....what? Where's the hating Texas bit?

From the Fong article:

Bell’s recruitment didn’t take off until the calendar flipped to 2021. Prior to that he would reach out to schools all the time with his film, etc., mostly being ignored.

“Nobody responded,” Bell said. Undeterred, he kept working, playing quarterback, running back and receiver over the last two seasons racking up over 1,000 yards rushing and 25 touchdowns over that span with 682 yards receiving and seven more scores, and he has one future opponent circled. “Mainly Texas. If they get to the SEC, I can’t wait to play them, Horns down forever.”

Lol. I guess there's a kid like this every year. I quite enjoyed Latrell McCutchin's antics last cycle so let's see if this kid's enough of a prima donna to do the same.

Meh, there’s a Baker Mayfield every year. Dude should suck dick for money if he really wants to know what it tastes like to be Baker Mayfield.

In article:  "a fan can stroll into Ohio Stadium this fall with an Ewers No. 3 jersey and Quinn will get a cut of the check."

Ohio State becomes latest school to launch group licensing program

Buckeye athletes will receive a cut of jersey sales, among other opportunities

ZACH BARNETT   9 HOURS AGO

Quote

Ohio State on Tuesday became the latest school to launch a group licensing program for its own student-athletes. The Buckeyes will work with The Brandr Group, the same firm that North Carolina to launch its own program, the first of its kind in college athletics.

Just like at UNC, TBG will work with Ohio State's licensees to cut deals with athletes across all 36 Buckeye teams.

"This first Ohio State group licensing program will begin by offering jerseys and then grow to include merchandise such as video games, apparel, trading cards and bobble heads," the announcement reads.

The Brandr Group will not broker deals for individual or groups of Buckeye athletes, it is simply working as a conduit for such deals to be done.

“This is a unique opportunity for our student-athletes,” OSU senior associate AD Carey Hoyt said. “We are passionate about educating and providing opportunities for student-athletes to take advantage of their Name, Image and Likeness, and co-branding them with Ohio State’s official trademarks and logos is going to be an exciting new way for them to monetize on their NIL.”

In the long term, this means Ohio State will likely appear, with its actual roster, in the coming EA Sports video game. In the meantime, a fan can stroll into Ohio Stadium this fall with an Ewers No. 3 jersey and Quinn will get a cut of the check.

So basically he pimped himself to several schools (presumably including Texas) and none responded...but the only one he hates is Texas. Cool, noted

https://crescentcitysports.com/recruiting-top-50-metro-new-orleans-recruits-in-class-of-2022-nos-1-25/

As usual, the New Orleans metro area is stocked with top quality talent for the 2022 football recruiting class, attracting the elite college football programs from around the country.

Time to look at the scouting notes on the top 25 recruits in the area (see Nos. 25-50 here).

1. DB Jacoby Matthews (6-2, 210) Ponchatoula, the five-star safety verbally committed to LSU for ’22. He compares favorably to former LSU/NFL safety Ryan Clark with whom he trains in the offseason. Matthews started as a freshman as an All District on the Ponchatoula basketball team. He can return punts, is an excellent tackler, functions well in space, instinctive, quick diagnosis. Played QB for Wave last season, threw for 858 yards, 10 TD’s, ran for 548 yards and 9 scores.

2. WR Shazz Preston (5-11, 185) St. James, top four includes LSU, Mississippi State, Alabama and Ole Miss. Mickey Joseph trying to seal deal for LSU. His brother Shawn plays at Mississippi State. Reminds me of Early Doucet. In 2019, he had 63 catches, 1,018 yds. 9 TD’s. In 2020, 50 grabs, 865 yards, 9 TD’s.

3. WR Aaron Anderson (5-10, 175, 4.39 forty) Edna Karr, committed to LSU, in 2020, 35 catches 678 yards 8 TD’s. Elite punt returner with 6 TD’s in ’20. Can turn short catch to long run. Smooth routes. Catches in a crowd. Runs 100, 200, 4×100 and 4×200 meters.

4. OLB Javae Gilmore (6-4, 200) Amite, suitors include LSU, Arkansas, Florida State, Georgia Tech, Virginia Tech, SMU, Mississippi State, Memphis, Kentucky and Ole Miss. Covers a lot of ground, could play safety, super athletic, great baseball player. Brother, Amani, played QB at Kentucky.
