Mrs. Wheeler was way too hot for Mr. Wheeler.

A lot of people were disappointed in the finale and the last season in general, It’s not that it was bad it just was very mid, unless you’re into excessive amounts of awkward emotional monologue and crying

I didn't watch a single second of it the last 10 years. But because it's one of the few vestages of monoculture (because it started like 10 years ago) I decided to speedrun the series and feel like I got a good grasp of the thing and invested around an hour in youtube recaps of season 1-4 and then a longer season 5 episode by episode recap.

I got it, seems like it was decent and creative and nostalgic for the Gen-X folks. Personally I wouldn't have enjoyed it based on understanding it all now. But I can imagine a messageboard of UT guys and gals (smart/dorky), in their 50's (gen X, nostalgia), could love it.

When the Soprano's originally aired, I thought Kelli was plain and Adriana was hot. On rewatch, Kelli seemed much more attractive and Adriana was meh.

I don't know, Adriana was pretty damn hot.

We were all 25+ years younger then. This all makes sense

It was explained to me that Will's coming out meeting was necessary to take away the one thing that Vecna could use against him - the fear, however rational or irrational, of losing all of his friends if they found out. That explanation gives a little more context as to why they were having such a discussion in the middle of trying to save the world.

Found a second screener

Finally got to watch it last night. I am impressed that they stuck the landing like that and totally redeemed themselves. I wasn't expecting much at all with how the season had gone up to the finale. My nerd complaint is the sound effects people adding shell casings hitting the floor when Hopper was using a revolver.

Wasn’t mentioned in the show, but 1987 was the middle of the aids epidemic and the gay population was most heavily hit, or at least portrayed as such in the news and politics. So even with total acceptance, there would be fear for his wellbeing from everyone including himself.

Just read online that (contrary to this thread) most online are deeply disappointed and creating alternative conspiracy theories:

The Stranger Things Finale Was So Bad That Fans Are Convinced There’s Another Episode Surprise Dropping This Week

We’ve got another “The Johnlock Conspiracy” situation on our hands.

For the uninitiated, “Johnlock” was the ship name for John Watson and Sherlock Holmes from BBC’s Sherlock. “TJLC” was the fandom term for a very specific set of shippers who believed that the show’s January 2017 finale, where Holmes and Watson remained just friends, must be a smokescreen for the real finale where they ended up together.

This time around the ship is Byler, or fans of Stranger Things fans that think that Will Byers and Mike Wheeler should have similarly ended up together in the finale. And, again like in 2017, fans are so angry about this that they’ve convinced themselves that there’s a secret second finale dropping this week. They’re calling it #ConformityGate and they believe that the last episode was all an illusion created by the show’s villain, Vecna, and that a new episode released on January 7th will confirm this.

I was thinking about how if they'd treated it how it actually would've gone in 1987, the first question he'd have gotten would've been around how he planned on not getting AIDS.

The shipping thing is so dumb. Will deserves better than Mike and anyway, Mike is so very, very straight.

No matter how good a show is, there will always be internet dorks who want to shit on it.

Head canon is one of the hardest things a multi-season show has to overcome. Fans turn into shareholders who feel they should have a say in how a show turns out.

Finale was decent, but a small part of me is annoyed that Eleven didn't get a happy ending given everything she endured.

I didn't give a shit about Mike and El not ending up together, but I would've liked Hopper to find a waffle or something just so he knows.

Exactly. But instead we got something "open to the audience's interpretation."

I’m pretty surprised there is much debate about it being open to audience interpretation. It seemed pretty clear to me that El being alive was just a story that Mike told the group and they chose to believe because it made for a nicer ending for their friend.

For her to be alive, her and her sister would have had to wordlessly lock in that this is the time to execute the super secret plan with a million variables happening around them. The sister has to fake her death to Hop after getting surprised ambushed (because we saw her die on screen), and then stay alive while bleeding out so that she could project the fake image at the perfect moment (even though she wasn’t with them and would have no idea when that was) amongst the commotion of Sara Conner’s army (who she didn’t know would be there).

And even if you believe all that, if Mike and the rest of the kids really thought she was still alive, they aren’t going to go looking for her? These people have fought their way through multiple dimensions of space and time, all they do is make plans with maps. They aren’t going to book a trip to Iceland and check out some waterfalls just in case?

I think she's most likely dead too. But because all of those other kids "believe," they've left the door open. The cynic in me expects a money grab return 10 years from now if the Duffers' and Millie Bobby Brown's careers have gone stagnant. Mike gets a blank postcard with a photo of three waterfalls on the front...

This theory was proven 20 years ago. Are you familiar with GIFT?

She's dead. After all the angst and teeth-gnashing when Hopper kept El being alive a secret from Mike & co. earlier in the show, she wouldn't do that to him again.

Waffle? Postcard? Guys, she can remote into their minds and say hi whenever she feels like it if she’s alive.

But lieutenant Dan, you ain't got no ass!

Also, bullshit. Mr Wheeler was awesome. Always bitching about the kids, just wanted to pound out Mrs Wheeler and work on his golf swing

Doesn't seem that clear cut to me. For starters the Duffers said they want people to have their own interpretations. Secondly, that scene was just odd and muddled with Mike predicting sensible near futures for everyone else, too. It was like the Duffers are big fans of The Leftovers and kinda aped its ending but it didn't work as well.

Also kinda funny that there was that emotional scene with Hop and Mike on the bench where Hop gives a big speech about choosing the road of acceptance. Then like a day later Mike is like, "nah fuck all that, she's still alive guys!"
