I have no idea what's going on with our coaching staff.

No one can seem to figure out who is responsible for the good stuff and who is to blame for the bad stuff. Half the fanbase is pissed when someone leaves and the other half say they were pushed out.

Titles are all over the place, making it tough to find out who is exactly responsible for what.

Guess it doesn't really matter. Napier will succeed or fail based in part on these moves and they will be self evident in the end.

Florida is on my radar because my Dad set some state records swimming for them years ago.  But now that we are in the SEC by primary interest with Florida's current strength is, that I do have multiple presentation choices to consider before kickoff October 5th, 2025.

I had fried alligator bites in St. Martinsville, La. many years ago, and several bites in I thought "It really does taste like chicken." Until I took a bite of what looked like darker meat, and then thought, "Oh, this doesn't taste like chicken."  It was super gamey.

Alligator gets chewy really easily too.

I have never attempted to cook it myself.

What's up with Lagway?  Is his shoulder good, is he having surgery, is he fucked up?

Yes.

Oh, and for the record, I cringe every time this thread gets bumped.  Never good.

At one point we had NCState and Cal scheduled for 2026 (as well as FSU).

Cal was canceled so that they could schedule UCLA now that the two were in different conferences.

NCState was canceled so that they could schedule UVA OOC since the new ACC schedule killed the game.

I assume the Texas versions of these games would remain on a schedule, even with 9 games. Why would you guys get rid of these and not the FCS dogshit? While neither team is a power, both are capably of fielding bowl teams.

I've read this like 3 times and I cannot figure out what you are asking.

If you're struggling to grasp my writing, you should probably put me on ignore and stay focused on whoever it is that keeps you coming back, I guess.

Alright, good talk, I guess.

He is saying dump the FCS non-conference games, not the non-power 4 FBS non-conference games.  And, I feel like he has a point.  This fall we play Florida State, Miami, South Florida and Long Island University (ugh).  Texas plays Ohio State, San Jose State, UTEP and Sam Houston State.  While both of these lists have some ugly dance partners, at least Texas' list are all FBS.  Some SEC schools need to throw in an FCS opponent to get that "all but guaranteed" win on the books.  Florida, IMO, is not one of them.

I guess that's why I didn't understand what he was asking. We aren't dumping anyone.

These are new games that we've had to scramble to add for 2026 and 2027 after Cal and NCState canceled.

Which is fine if we go to a 9 game SEC schedule because that means we'll always have 10 P4 games at a minimum.

Now I just hope they follow through with the 9 game schedule so we don't have to find yet another filler game.

Swamp247 is saying that Lagway will miss at least the first two weeks of practice. Allegedly, he has a calf strain and they don’t want to risk an achilles tear.

I am not on there enough to really know, like basically I might check something with news like this, so basically never, but I think the guys talking about this are insiders, given how they’re being regarded by other posters, and not mods since they don’t have any mod tags. Has this been reported elsewhere? Apparently Napier has an Elko-esque history of being purposely misleading and opaque with injury updates.

Not sure who else are regulars that are also gator fans.

Not sure. I think we’re a basketball school now.

j/k.  I think he will miss significant time, we lose six games, and Billy is fired.   if Lagway won’t be playing next year (for whatever reason) there will be a race to the transfer portal by the wide receivers who were attracted to Lagway….as opposed to our offensive scheme… such as it is.

Florida became my 2nd favorite team as a kid because I like alligators, and that developed into still being a fan and following them as an adult. Lagway is currently in a boot and is unlikely to play in the first game. There’s a growing concern that he’s made of glass and will never play a healthy season in Gainesville. Needless to say Florida is completely fucked without him. They have Baugh and a solid o-line and solid receivers but it’s all meaningless if there’s no threat to get it to the guys outside.

I really like Florida’s young skill talent on offense. If Lagway can go, with the experienced OL and the Wilsons and Baugh and the like, the O side should be pretty damned good. With Roberts still involved on the D, I see little room for optimism there. In any event, thanks for the thoughts on Lagway’s health.

I have nothing against Florida and like watching talented QBs who have the potential to be great.  Sure seems like Lagway has it all except durability.  His deep ball passes last year when healthy were absolute dimes.

If Napier gets fired, I hope the staff tries to pick him up in some capacity. I've always thought he was a good coach, even if he's in a bit over his head at Florida.

He’s a terrible coach. He’s a pretty good recruiter, he only gets 3 stars and low 4 stars but almost all of them turn out to be decent to very good college players.

I like alligators too. I think they make great boots and luggage.

I guess Florida made the right decision last year? They won their last 4 over 3 pretty good teams and their in state rival. They were 6-0 in games where Lagway started and finished the game.

They’re fucked without Lagway is the easy take, but the more difficult observation is that Sunbelt Billy let the program get to a place where one player will make or break them.

Didn't Lagway also have shoulder surgery too?  Who's to say that doesn't affect his big arm.

I'll defer to @Helobious who probably knows better than I do, but I think he's having surgery to fix a problem that's been there for a while. He played baseball in high school and his throwing motion in football was affected. He never really got the motion down and it has created significant wear on his shoulder. He didn't want to miss the time it would take to fix it, so he never had the surgery. He finally had the operation this off season.

That's a long way of saying, I think the surgery was intended to improve his arm.

He hasn’t had shoulder surgery yet, he went the rehab route, meaning his shoulder will blow up this year at somepoint.

I had fried gator tails once at some Cajun restaurant in Houston years ago - I don't remember the name of it (not Pappadeaux's or Landry's). It tasted like chewing a mouthful of rubber bands. Never again

Gator is a lot like chicken. It can be like chewing gum if it's from a shitty source even if it's prepared properly.

When I get it, I usually just go for fried gator bites because most places go with a spicier batter.

I have never tried cooking any myself. I'll stick to smoking beef, pork, and chicken.

As far as this season, I've got nothin. Just along for the ride. Can't let myself spend time worrying about injuries or anything like that. It's gonna happen anyway.

Listening to SXM 84 the last week, I don’t think Florida is confident that DJ will start the season and much less be a factor for the whole season. And their QB room is getting your coach fired bad.

For last year’s UF game, the chefs grilled or smoked a 5 foot gator, I don’t remember how it was prepared but it wasn’t fried, and then also served fried gator bites. This is at the buffet for the south end zone suites. I thought it was a funny set up to go with everything else they served. The bites could have really been any kind of chunky white meat. The grilled or smoked stuff was unique and good though.
