The blueprint to be a great coach? Yeah I don’t know why all the other programs bailed on the seminar it was only 999.99.

Or maybe being both a HC and an OC isn’t the way. But now he’s effectively a quasi HC who will only have to deaL with one side of the ball and never ever have to listen to the defensive headset and he can solely focus on his play calling.

Muschamp is more than capable of handling shit for defense.

I’m convinced he keeps boobs like Harris and Flood around to have a fall guy or two for when his way fails. Always some excuse that isn’t the fact that so far his way don’t work.

If Flood and Harris are still here in year 7 and we still haven’t had a semi final win what will the excuse be then? Intelligent fans question what went on behind the scenes this year bc we know it’s more than just X’s and O’s.

If sark were laser focused on being a HC we absolutely would have won with Ewers. And again with Arch. As long as he continues to do things his way he will always meet better opponents bc those HC’s are focused on being a HC and the entire team not just their playbook and pawning shit off to a less than competent staff. Now there is so much parity Sark cannot merely out athlete the top P4 teams anymore.

He might try looking in the mirror and making some real changes that actually might get him the trophy. But he has like an addict’s personality in my opinion. I don’t mean he’s using I mean he’s got an excuse for everything and there is always someone or something to blame. He’s been given a lot of latitude and a lot of money and results in year six should be expected of him. Unless the ones not expecting us to win it all are braindead.

Yeah well good for him.

Interesting also that if Cignetti makes it to the natty it would be year 2 at Indiana of all places and if Oregon wins then Lanning would make it in his 4th year while being 39 years old.

Yeah, but Sark was in a completely different situation in his first two season. He inherited a bad roster, his players weren't experienced, he was in a tougher conference, the school wasn't ready to spend, the portal was different, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. 😆

Fair or not, Cignetti has re-set the bar for expectations. You're either smart enough to take advantage of the current system or it's taking advantage of you.

This season and the aftermath has been a mess for Sark. Your offense sucked because...you had to be charge of the defense? Okay, got it.

The verdict is still out on him, but thanks to people like Cignetti, he is pretty much out of excuses. So are a lot of other coaches.

And as someone who makes a shit-ton of money and has some of the deepest resources in the game, he sure better produce next year, or stakeholders have every right to question whether he is the person.

Miami beat down two one loss SEC teams in the playoffs, and added THEE Ohio State in between. Maybe they can focus? Maybe they would be undefeated playing in the overrated secsecsec?

"Beat down" is a bit strong. I agree that Miami is an excellent team, but let's not overstate things.

Texas vs. A&M was 27-17. Miami vs. A&M was 10-3. You called the Aggies a "one less SEC team" but let's be real - they were not that great, certainly no better than Texas. And A&M took Miami down to the wire, while our game was effectively over halfway through the 4th. Miami's win over Ole Miss was awesome - just an amazing football game. But it was not a "beat down." There were 5 lead changes in the 4th quarter. That was an even match up. OSU is another quality win, but how quality? OSU only beat Texas by 7, and it was playing the "early 2025" version of Texas where Manning couldn't complete a 10 yard pass.

I'm not saying Miami isn't a great team. Maybe you're right and they would have done better in the SEC than they did in the ACC. But the facts you're using to support that assumption are specious.

Except not.

Texas is allowed to pay players just as much as all the other teams can now. Under those coaches you listed, we did not.

this is exactly the kind of chicken shit mentality that has always kept us from having a program like osu, bama, goergia. They aren't afraid to win and do what it takes to win. Our fans are pussies too terrified that the next guy may be worse so we should all be happy with good but not good enough.

That’s how long it took to have UT fans sounding like Liucci. The results on the field in a competitive tournament don’t matter, just the hrrrr-drrrr week-in-week-out grind of SECX3. Any SECX3 team is magically better than anyone else, and the only reason those other teams can win is because:

1) Week-in-week out grind beat up the SECX3 teams.

2) SECX3 didn’t want to be there.

If any full-strength SECX3 team were to play in any other conference, they’d sweep the conference and the playoffs. It’s science.

Now explain why Indiana and Oregon would have 3-4 losses in the SECX3. I’m sure you can. Same logic. Or any of the other 8 P4 teams that beat SECX3 teams in this postseason.

Are we talking about Indiana or Oregon? What I AM saying is a team capable of losing to Pitt and SMU is capable of losing to any team with a pulse. So it's simple logic that the more capable teams you put on their schedule, the higher percentage you lose more games due to lack of focus. You know, kinda like we did. What does Indiana and Oregon have to do with that?

The ACC is not a good conference. Not sure why that's up for debate. This is who Miami had on their schedule.

FSU- beat Bama first game of the season when Bama was trying to git it's shit together but then had Florida hang 40 on them last game

Stanford- lost to Hawaii and scored aggy(three points) vs BYU in a loss.

SMU- lost to TCU and Baylor

Syracuse- lost to Tenn and had ND score 70 on them.

NC State- lost to ND.

V-Tech lost to South Carolina, Vandy, and OLD DOMINION for fucks sake.

Pitt lost to West Virginia and ND.

I'm no SEC stan at all, but let's not act like the Big12 and ACC are on the same level as the B1G and SEC.

I don't care for the ACC at all. But to claim Miami would have multiple losses in the SEC is ludicrous this year, when the only objective evidence we have is that the SEC fared abysmally against OOC competition, regular season and post. I'm absolutely not a UM fan, but any team can lose on any given Saturday. UT-UF, for example. I also think it's ridiculous that they lost to SMU and Louisville. But look at SEC OOC losses. Plenty of equal claims can be made about any SEC team this year except Georgia and, maybe, UT, although the UF loss was a bad loss.

to add on-

I posted this in the game thread awhile ago, but you cannot look at bowl matchups as evidence of which conference is better any longer. With NFL opt outs, the portal, and skewed records in bowls it's all shit. Why is 5-7 quarterbackless Miss St playing 8-4 Wake in a bowl? Last year Cam Ward refused to play the second half in a bowl they were winning at half. They lost. The only measure is in season cross-conference matchups.

Let me make this clear. I think Miami is a really good team. They have solid QB play. Great line play. Physical backs. An absolute baller on the outside and a solid D. That said they lack focus from top to bottom. Last night I watched a team come out getting 8 yards a carry and then forget that they couldn't be stopped in the run game for 2 quarters even though the few times they went back to it it still worked the same. I watched a team pile up penalties. I watched a team drop 4 interceptions. I watched a team that did everything they could to lose that football game yet still win.

I thought to myself, I see now how they lost to SMU and Louisville. You are also going to get a few inexplicable Carson Beck games that you have to overcome too. Indiana and Oregon are not those types of teams out there undisciplined and shooting themselves in the foot all game. Miami is. They've been like that under Cristobal, so I am confident they would have a few games where the stars aligned and all their bullshit added up to a loss.

14 hours ago, Jkwellborn said:

we lost to Florida, we aren't deserving, no way this team could win the 4 straight games anyway... - Surly poster or someone

I'm going to play devil's advocate here for a second—

If Sark doesn't at the very least make the semis next season with Arch, is it time to finally point and say "Dude is fucking lost. We need and should do better. We're gonna end up with our own James Franklin"? Because even Mack won a championship in his 6th year when it was much, much harder to do with everyone jockying for the 1-2. How much rope should someone as a HC at Texas realistically get? We're a blue blood, but not the only one. Plenty have fired coaches at other blue bloods for incompetence and just not getting it done. We aren't special.

Or

You'll have people say "He won with a generational QB! the GOAT!" OK? Well, Sark has a generational QB from the first family of football. Mack had GDGD. Sark has himself. It's not like Texas is hurting for money or talent, but it's starting to show some warts on the talent side. It's hurting for evaluation and coaching. People can't make excuses forever unless you're aggy. Should people continue to have hope that Sark can finally get over the hump, even with what seems like literally our entire roster outside of starters bolting? With a portal to raid every single year? Top 1-10 classes every year he's been the coach? And no, I'm not counting the transition class, even though it had more NFL talent than he's showing now. He's the man in control, he does the hiring, he places the tags on his staff, including himself. At what point do the white knighters look in the mirror and admit they were wrong? Year 8, 9, 10-12? Because it's coming up faster than you remember.

The best way to deal with the current landscape is to build a factory with a culture that has an identity. No school is immune to this bullshit but some are having an easier time of it than others.

We had Ewers and then we got Arch. Unfortunately Ewers slid in the draft so far he almost didn’t get drafted and everyone knows unless Arch was completely irredeemably awful he was going in the first round and now we know he’s definitely the dude.

What is the identity? I am looking for that to come from Muschamp. I wouldn’t mind being DB University or some shit. We get it. Many many dudes are looking for the best paycheck right now. But of those dudes there are a LOT that want to be coached up at their position so that they can thrive in the NFL and make big bucks with a huge contract bc they actually do love playing football. We need to hire dudes to find those dudes and target them. I don’t know how this 2026 portal shit will play out. I don’t know if we pushed some guys out the door bc we need to work on our people skills or if we at least 1:1 replaced who we lost. We have to figure out what our culture and our fucking system is and find the dudes that fit exactly what we want to accomplish. We are going with a leaner roster than ever and pushing the NFL-lite type of stuff but at the end of the day there is no reason we cannot enjoy the success Indiana is in the toughest P4 conference. SEC looks like ass right now, beatable asswater. They will bounce back. And the system will eventually get under control.

But all gas no brakes is not a culture nor an identity. It needs to be something else. We have to start turning out Badasses at a position group and we will attract the dudes who want that.

I don’t know if the Jason Whitten stuff will work at OU but if it does with the WR’s they will start getting those dudes in battles with other schools who want to succeed at the next level.

I am Uninspired by Flood. And I imagine recruits and transfer targets might be as well,

Muschamp can get dudes and get them to the next level. We have to show we can do that and we won’t have to worry about the attrition to the extent we have it right now. Some of that is Harris and if Harris is doing shit like this in front of our players and potential transfer targets it explains some of the shit that’s happening specifically to our team even though it’s happening to everyone. These recruits who wNt to succeed at the next level want to be coached up and we have to show we can actually do that and find the ones who want to play!

After all I’ve heard and read here and the recruit thread it seems like many are getting the below treatment from Harris and that cannot continue.

He’s lightning in a bottle. I think it’s not just that he’s process oriented, or that his teams practice hard and they work hard, he’s exceptional at spotting talent. Plenty of good to great HC’s have been around Saban. Coached under him, they know he ate and breathed and slept football. Spent hours watching film, looking at this recruit and that recruit. Plenty of them have gone on to build good to great teams. But I submit that most on Saban’s tree don’t have Cig’s eye for talent, some don’t have the same work ethic and some try things that are not process oriented that don’t work. At the end of the day, plenty of teams work hard, have regular practices, have a great staff. And so on. Some have access to more money and talent and years of top recruiting classes to build on that Cig did not.

So in terms of his being a unicorn 🦄 I’d say yeah he is: he is exceptional at finding talent. That’s his super power. Everyone can learn to be process oriented, practice hard, have good S&C coaches and so on…they can do this. But I don’t think anyone I’ve seen in my life has the innate ability or gift to spot the talent.

I personally think it's only fair we give Sark seven to eleven more years to fully implement his system and come up with a new slogan, too.

ACC ACC ACC

In last night’s post Peach Bowl game beatdown coverage it was mentioned that when meeting with recruits or transfers that Indiana’s primary focus (according to staff) is to ask whether the player cares more about winning or more about being drafted. They want guys who want to win more than they do being drafted.

So that’s all we have to do then! Get the word out to our people! 😂

I’ve heard people here say Lanning and Kiffin and Freeman as potential replacements for Sark or they are on a wish list for some. Cig would knock the shit out of all three of them. At least this year.

Something tells me they won’t have too much of a drop off next season either especially since Day is a buffoon, Pedo State has new Coach, Michigan has new Coach, Michigan State has new Coach, Riley is not a complete Coach, UCLA has JMU’s Coach now, Washington threatened to sue the pants off their returning QB, Lanning has to reload like a mother fucker and now has PTSD from the Peach Bowl.

who the fuck outside of Ohio State is really a massive challenge for Cig? They are benefitting also from a ton of conference disarray and the fact he’s the best coach in the country. Period.

I think that’s why we have to go all in this year with the portal. The trenches are the most important thing. I expect Muschamp to have a fierce defense so the biggest concern is the OLine and if we can win the battle on OLine we should be able to make a run. And you are 💯 right how we have been doing things is not sustainable. But I guess right now in an effort to be “more positive” this is the year to go all in. We have Arch, a shiny new RB and we appear poised to grab some dudes in the portal. The SEC is bearable and dealing with some shit. We have a rough schedule. If our OLine holds we will make the playoffs this year. That’s me being positive as I can be.

The truth is if we don’t start building a culture and an identity once Arch is gone we are going to be in a hurt locker. And we better start emulating teams like Indiana and going for tough players on both lines or we will be back to the Herman days. Or worse. That’s me being negative and realizing that the landscape as it stands currently is out of control for everyone. Just like the draft we have to hit on targets that are the right fit and try to build a culture and identity so kids who want to play at the next level and who love to win will want to come here to get coached up. Just grabbing the coolest athlete in the portal or best recruit isn’t enough for anyone. Only the best coaches will continue to thrive. And our staff (outside of Muschamp) doesn’t inspire much confidence.

That’s as positive as I’m likely to get. This reboot better have roots in a culture and an identity or it will be a one and done season. For all the marbles. And not sustainable. All of us will take it if it means we win an MNC but if it doesn’t the future is uncertain and hard and real difficult changes will need to be made if Sark is going to be at the helm. Changes he may not want.

Probably mentioned in here somewhere but the difference between Cignetti and most Head Coaches is that Cignetti is not a position based coach.

He is a talent manager , and he hired OC and DC to manage their sides of the ball , making him a Head Coach.

Not that we need more signs that it's too much to do both , but the booms he's lobbing are top teams should make people like Sark rethink some things.
