Cartels beheading people and shit. Nothing new, been going on since AD900. They are just continuing a tradition.

copy and pasted highlights below.

When Mexican police found a pile of about 150 skulls in a cave near the Guatemalan border, they thought they were looking at a crime scene, and took the bones to the state capital.

It took a decade of tests and analysis to determine the skulls were from sacrificial victims killed between AD 900 and 1200, the National Institute of Anthropology and History said Wednesday.

The police investigator’s suspicions in 2012 were not unreasonable; the border area around the town of Frontera Comalapa in southern Chiapas state has long been plagued by violence and immigrant trafficking. And pre-Hispanic skull piles in Mexico usually show a hole bashed through each side of every skull, and were usually found in ceremonial plazas, not caves.

Meh.

Aztecs and other pre-Columbian civilizations played Ulama (world's oldest game probably).  Look it up.  While it's a myth that teams played with skulls used as a "ball", they often decorated their courts with dozens of skulls.  And often the team that won was decapitated - pre-Columbian tribes considered it an honor to die as the game was far more symbolic than just a game.  Never mind the human sacrifices surrounding the games.  And every major Mesoamerican town/city had a ball court for Ulama.  But maybe the most impressive thing surrounding these sports are the tzompantli ). These had a base with upright wood posts.  Tens of thousands of human skulls were displayed on these "racks"; one Conquistador reported as many as 136,000, but even if this is doubted, scientists found one with a definite head count (see what I did there?  yuk yuk yuk) of over 60,000.  Almost all of these skulls were human sacrifice; others were decapitated "winners" of the ball games displayed as sort of the statue outside the stadium thing... a tribute of sorts.

Among the most brutal worlds I know of is pre-Columbian America.  Death was not only commonplace, but sought after in many activities.

A pile of a measly 150 skulls is more of an afterthought than anything significant in that world.

my brother is an archeologist based out of central america and the yucatán.  he has found some cool fucking shit. including the “maize” god.  Locals would take newborns and bound their heads in a way that would make it resemble an ear of corn when older. they would then use these “gods” to reenact their “creation of the world” event in religious ceremonies.

Mexican security chief confirms cartel family members entered US in a deal with Trump administration

MEXICO CITY (AP) — Mexico’s security chief confirmed Tuesday that 17 family members of cartel leaders crossed into the U.S. last week as part of a deal between a son of the former head of the Sinaloa Cartel and the Trump administration.

Mexican Security Secretary Omar García Harfuch confirmed a report by independent journalist Luis Chaparro that family members of Ovidio Guzman Lopez, who was extradited to the United States in 2023, had entered the U.S.

Guzmán Lopez is one of the brothers left running a faction of the Sinaloa Cartel after notorious capo Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán was imprisoned in the U.S. Video showed the family members walking across the border from Tijuana with their suitcases to waiting U.S. agents.

Rumors had circulated last week that the younger Guzmán would plead guilty to avoid trial for several drug trafficking charges in the U.S. after being extradited in 2023.

García Harfuch confirmed the family members’ crossing in a radio interview and said it was clear to Mexican authorities that they were doing so after negotiations between Guzmán López and the U.S. government.
