Mahomes went 13-19 at Texas Tech.  How does that happen?

Incredibly bad defense
Incredibly bad offensive line
Kliff Kingsbury is phenomenal at one part of football, not the whole shebang. What Kingsbury inherited from Quitterville was also shit.  See also: multiple starters at QB who were Freshmen, before Mahomes arrived.

It could never be worse than the Tech football program since December of 2009.

What's the risk?  Someone else's money?  That's college sports.

Tech is still pissed at Texas, and still would prefer that they were in the same conference with Texas for the opportunity to beat them every once in a while even if it means fewer conference championships.

It cracks me up when bootstrappers and coattail-riders who were all too happy to ditch the border conference swell with indignation at our leaving them in the conference(s) into which they begged/extorted us to get them admission.

Maybe, but you better be working damn near 70 hours a week.

People I know in Ft Worth said he did a bit more than "scout" overlooked players.  WOS, Jasper, Newton, etc aren't exactly programs that just started having success or producing college level talent in the 2000's.

The Lombardi trophy wall is absolutely embarrassing. That’s an NFL team award. Do they also have all of Mahomes AFC conference trophies? What about the AFC west banners?  I

As a loser and an underachiever personally and professionally, I don't feel it's my place to ask more of the teams I follow and their heralds than I ask of myself.

Worked basically 15 years at the same company, reliably hand in 8-4 level performance, got myself demoted from a management position that I'd handled competently but unspectacularly for several years by giving myself a scathing annual self-evaluation a couple of years ago, just normal stuff. Unprovoked, I put in writing and submitted to my manager that "I haven't maintained a culture of accountability".

Yeah that’s bullshit; $110K jobs should only be for important shit like product evangelists or program managers…

I am confused, when did Tech win conference titles, a Rose Bowl, and finish in the Top 10 in back to back seasons.

Wait, you wish you were TCU in the MWC or in CUSA or in the WAC when once again we won games and titles and didn't just spend money.

Ok, I should’ve said we look like we are on our way to being TCU in the old MWC/CUSA/whatever. I could’ve said Boise State or some other mid level team.

sure I do hope we get similar results to TCU, but I’m just having sour grapes like any other Tech fan lol

How the hell was he making $110K being a pipe fitter in a fire hydrant factory?

it doesn't say he was a pipe fitter.....it just says he worked at a fire hydrant factory.....he could have been in sales, he could have been the top metallurgist, the CFO, or a number of other things besides sitting by a hot casting line every day

Wait, you are accessing on the internet who checks easily found information?

I was actually curious about the company as I at one time had a client in that area who did similar work and was curious, but you are right, no one else on this site has ever did a quick search on the internet about someone they came across from a story on the internet.

All of this money can’t be coming from one person:

It is estimated that Texas Tech will pay out $55 million in revenue sharing and NIL across all sports programs in 2025, which is believed to be the highest in the country.

It is NOT just one, but there is most definitely a bigger fish than others.  https://www.fanrunradio.com/sports/the-richest-team-in-college-football-just-got-richer

When did Florida join the Big 12?

From wikipedia:

The sole University of Florida sports team that does not play in the SEC is the women's lacrosse team, which plays a sport the SEC has never sponsored. That team joined the Big 12 Conference in 2024 in advance of that conference's first women's lacrosse season in spring 2025.

Do you really believe that Texas Tech is spending more money on football than any other school?

If it helps, that article is factually incorrect regarding Texas and NIL for last season and assumptions going forward. Laughably so, regarding 2024.

Fanrunradio and its crack team of journalists, litigators, and athletic department insiders can not be so easily dismissed, sir.

Evidently he didn’t piss on anything or anybody at the fire hydrant factory.

No i don't.  Hell aggy lights a lot of money on fire too.

The article was more of a simple reply about who Cody Campbell was and is, with regard to where the Tech money comes from.  You saw that in the post you quoted, right?  Of course you did.

Big XII lacrosse is weird as hell, no original members. I looked it up when the Big XII social media posted UF as a conference champion. ACC would seem like a way better fit.

I was saying ACC makes more sense for UF specifically, but those others make sense too since Stanford and Cal both have programs and are ACC.

Not sure the ACC would be excited about schools whose student bodies can be frequently found on a number of amateur porn sites.....or so it is reported on the internet.

Tech may not be spending more money on football than others, but they may be spending more on softball than anybody else ... and it looks like they've bought several more All-Americans (apparently, before the portal was even open).

https://www.si.com/onsi/softball/news/how-an-nil-loophole-is-transforming-texas-tech-into-a-softball-powerhouse

I'm going to go cross-post this on the softball thread if it's not already there, but the thing I find really fascinating about this is that Cody Campbell is chair of Tech's board of regents. Gotta wonder how his very strong interest in sports success is going to affect the way he views the way the rest of the university is run.

He’s also providing some of the funding for Tech’s AAU. push. He seems to be a kinda hands on guy.

If so, good for them. This state needs another good school. One is not enough.
