I agree with most of what you're saying. However, I don't think we needed a hero quarterback *last night. I think we need a QB that had the ability to run some and more frequently throw accurate non-loft long balls.
If only we knew where to find one.
Our D kept us in the game, but Kirby out coached Sark primarily based on Sark's habits and Quinn’s weaknesses.
Quality Ds and coaching staffs will be able to do the same.
Quinn is a good college quarter back. I'm still smoking hopium Sark alters his mindset and plays Arch more, and Quinn doesn't Quinn it up in the playoffs... but I'm pretty sure I'll need to mainline some copium before the season is over.
Still have my national championship ticket...

Sark’s too stubborn to alter his mindset. I noticed him yesterday and he looked nervous and almost terrified. Even during the pregame. Not sure if he was feeling well or just like the coach in water boy where he was terrified of his nemesis on the other sideline.

Quinn was simply good enough but not the alpha to will the team over the top with off-schedule plays. His attitude seems like he doesn’t give a fuck. No energy. Sark didn’t help with his playcalling either. Like I’ve been saying all season, Sark and Quinn are the crucial reasons if or if we won’t win a title.

Most NFL GMs always fall in love with arm strength and measurables. See Anthony Richardson and the legendary bust from LSU. He will get drafted but he will probably mentally burn out quickly or be a long term backup. The NFL won’t coddle him like Sark and I don’t think he’s physically changed much in 4 years.

We lost to backup QB with limited snaps and a 1 armed INT monkey.

Putting the loss on Quinn is crazy. Quinn was the best part of our offense. Yes, he isn't a fiery leader that is going to elevate the team. He is a game manager at this point and we just need to accept that. But he played well enough to win. The line got dominated in the run game and our receivers ain't ones come up with tough contested catches. This offense needs a j whitt and it needs a Roschon. We need leaders on O other than QB.  Bitch about those OT passes if you want, but those are makeable plays. Moore had a ton of space to the sidelines where Quinn threw but kept his route more vertical. Wingo needs to learn to use his body to make tough catches. It sucks that we don't have personnel to deal with defenses with elite speed in the redzone, but we just don't. Yes, Arch is almost certainly a better option in the RedZone if we play Georgia again or if we end up facing an Ohio State. But I don't think any other teams in the playoffs match up as well with us.

Quinn is anti clutch and I can’t wait for his time to be done here. If he decides not to enter the draft, I hope Sark points him toward the portal. So done with him

I don’t think I’m speaking for just myself when I say I can wait 4 more games…

This is where I'm at. He shouldn't have been in the position the rest of the team put him in to magic a win into existence. He did more than enough to win throughout the game. I'm bummed.

That corner route to wingo, the one Quinn threw up on a prayer when the db had outside leverage the entire route? That’s like throwing into triple coverage and saying wr is to blame.

all the cute stuff sark does when it's just back to basics smash the guy in front of your face football is what fucks up the run game against Georgia.

Quinn not being a run threat and unable to shake an arm tackle or two every now and again against this Georgia defensive front is also a big reason they can stay home and just rush their lane etc.

I think a few posters have put it best. Quinn played good enough to win tonight, but didn't win the game when he could.

Its a bummer, but the guy just isn't a winner in the sense that he becomes possessed and must win at all costs.

Beck went in with 1 arm and handed it off to win the game. The entire time he was out on the sidelines he was shown seething and clearly wanting to play with one fucking arm - still locked in as if he was to go in every play. He wasn't smiling, loligagging, he was actively communicating with the backup, completely plugged in on the walkie talkie to the plays coming in. He was a fucking gamer.

This is what people dont see from Quinn and why he's catching a lot of shit for not winning the game himself.

He just isn't the guy, and sark needed a hero QB tonight and instead he got a good enough QB.

Outside of the Beck portion, I agree will all of this. I think Ewers has RSF(Resting Sad Face), I don’t blame him for how he looks on the sidelines.

Ewers did not lose this game and the blame should be from top to bottom. Almost every area had a faults last night. But this was the game to prove all the doubters wrong. When the Oline is getting man handled in the run game, receivers are uncharacteristically dropping passes, Sark having questionable play calling, and Bert absolutely shitting his pants—this was the game to put the team on your back. He failed in that aspect. He had plenty of opportunities to grab the game by the balls and win it. Ewers succumbs to the pressure when his team needs 1 or 2 throws from him when the lights are bright.

I didn't say the receiver was to blame. It isn't his fault. But yes, it was a makeable play by a stronger receiver. Again, people are criticizing Quinn for not being Superman and making the spectacular plays to elevate the offense. I'm saying other people on the team could do the same.

Idk that people are criticizing him as much as they are saying he's never going to make those plays ever. That's what sucks. You don't want the ball in Quinns hands to win the game. That's lame.

What I saw was predictable runs with our big humans moving sideways on 1st downs, leading to second and long.

oh wait I got a good one for this:

play action long developing routes.

3rd and long.  Where’s the blitz coming from. Oh shit.

the stuff that worked was on hurry up, intermediate routes in between the zones until getting to red zone.

in the red zone that space was too small and we didn’t have a mobile quarterback to punish them with qb run, option, etc.

it’s why Georgia’s backup was able to move the ball.  Outside the 1 big Etienne run both defenses were quite effective.

Sark has to do better calling plays in those situations.

I saw Sark on the sidelines on several occasions visually frustrated, shaking his head, and mumbling under his breath after a Ewers bone-headed throw/decision which I interpreted as there were execution problems of said plays, and one’s Sark thought were pretty damn obvious

Placement could be better yes.  But that was really a great play by their db.  He didn’t look worried about bond running by him as he normally should hence the tight coverage.  Bond still gimpy.  More Wingo please.

Quinn’s just not that guy. Yes he will get yards and have a good game. But that’s not what is needed to win a NC. Nowadays a QB has to be able to move and make something happen with his feet when everything else is breaking down. The fact that he isn’t and rarely can in addition to having a suspect deep ball, well this is about our ceiling with him

You’re correct. I could be in the minority on this play but he had guys screaming on his left side and needed to get ball out. It wasn’t perfect but it hit Bonds in the hands and if it was Golden, Wingo, Bolden or Helm that ball likely get caught. Sometimes you needs to help out your QB and not be lazy and catch the damn ball.

I was about to say, he needs to step into that throw and deliver a rocket to the outside, instead it's a flutter ball thrown inside where Bond tries to make a play by sticking his hand out.

on Bond, I haven't watched him in depth to really study his route running ability so I don't know how much of a technician it is, but context clues would certainly seem to agree with your point that he's gimpy. Doesn't look like he can stick his foot in the ground and cut.

Unfortunately I think we’re in the same position with Sark that we are with Quinn. He is who he is and he’s not changing. He has his philosophy and while it works well against most teams and we have won a lot of games these last couple of seasons, he doesn’t look to be the kind of coach who is willing to make adjustments when his schemes have been figured out.

Sark won't adjust. He didn't adjust for Georgia's game plan. He won't adjust when his script isn't working. He will adjust to a QB with limitations, but only because he already put down his foot saying he was the starter. He won't adjust for a D with certain match up advantages due to commitments/choices/decisions he's already made.

Where does Quinn end up getting drafted? Serious question.

I think I’d be nervous has hell to do anything more than take him in the 3rd-4th and let him marinate for a couple years.

I think you are right, 3rd round or lower.  If he hasn’t ever survived a college season, he won’t survive an NFL season and this year has been a showcase for his numerous flaws.    I personally would only take him as a late round lottery ticket.  I think his ceiling is career backup where he’s just being asked to occasionally come in for a starter and play well for short stretches while relatively unscathed/healthy.

Given QBs in the NFL, his ceiling his career starter as a game manager. But his most likely trajectory is long term backup. But it isn't physical talent that holds him back. It is all mentality.

Additional thought on Quinn Ewers going forward: I suppose the playoff bracket could effect any decision to replace Quinn.  For example, if Texas’ first (2) opponents are SMU followed by Arizona State or Boise, Quinn may be granted a longer leash.  If it’s Bama/Clemson/other, maybe not so much.  And if Quinn performed against SMU, Arizona St/Boise, he may be granted more leash for the semifinal, but I would bet that semifinal leash will be very short.  It’s win or go home from here on out, and there are no guarantees you’ll be playing for a championship next year while they absolutely are playing for one now

How does PFF factor in throwing INTs with the game on the line?

How do you even grade out in the 90s throwing two picks? Could have easily been three. You could say the same about the last 6 games though. Hopefully Quinn comes back from the break healthier and bounces back in Austin. I feel like I’ve said that quite a few times this season.

I had 2 big surprise moments from Sark in this game. I was shocked he opened the OT with Manning. I was just as shocked when he opened immediately pulled him after gaining 5 yards. Not sure why he didn’t just hurry to the line and run with it, especially given the offenses Redzone issues

He is who he is at this point. A 30+ start QB shouldn’t require perfect conditions to excel.

He wasn’t awful yesterday but it’s not unreasonable to expect more from your third year starter.

Sark has to scheme everything up for him right now. He isn’t evaluating those around him or making the off schedule plays. Yes the OL could be better or the receivers could be better or a specific play call or two could be better but when a dude is the starting QB at Texas for 3 years he should be able to cover up stuff and right some wrongs. That isn’t asking for too much.

I think he just wanted a manageable 2nd down to start the series and he knew an Arch run was the safest way to do it.

Agreed. He dabbles, occasionally and for limited duration, in adjustments. Then he goes right back to being "fancy".

Christ on a cracker, I’m not even going to entertain that last sentence. I acknowledged where the throw should have been. At the same time, the ball literally hits Bond on the right shoulder pad and it’s not a one handed try like you’re making it out to be. That’s a normal drop or a catch with any other receiver on team. Poor throw by Ewers, poor effort by Bond.

That just doesn’t win at the highest level. Only one player touches the ball every single play. Game managers that don’t turn the ball over can win. Unfortunately we have a game manager who can’t manage to hold onto the football

Nobody has at any point asked for him to be superman. Asking a 3rd year starting QB, who was a top QB prospect and makes millions in NIL while playing for Texas with its best D in decades to score TDs (or at least not turn the ball over) in the red zone is... REASONABLE!

In two of the biggest games of the entire 1960s (Arky and Domers), James Street put the team on his back and led late 4Q TD drives, with huge 4th down conversions on perfect passes, to win fucking championships!

Something only VY has been able to do since.

Dr. Pepper Quinn has failed to do that three times: last year v. Washington, had two shots last night. Failed miserably, not even close.

There is one football goal at The University of Texas: Win conference and national championships. Especially national championships.

That's it. That's how QB greatness is measured at Texas. Regardless of decade.

We literally have not started the playoffs this year.
