Texas Recruiting Notes 2026: They Can't Keep Getting Away With This

He carried that over since his days of being the OC for the Falcons. Years ago I remember watching a coaching clinic with his saying the RB was the first read and if it is open, the QB must throw that route. It's amazing that DCs have had this play and tape of this this play or variations of it for a years and still can't do shit about it.

That’s funny. I was going type something similar. It does make me laugh when it works. Texas runs it so much, how are teams not prepared.

I don't think it's about defenses being prepared. I think they absolutely know it's coming. But you can't call the perfect defense on every play.

I think it speaks more to Sark's insane ability as a play caller to know exactly when the defense wants to call a play side blitz, which leaves them vulnerable to this play. It's uncanny how often he calls this play exactly when the defense has the worst possible blitz called.

Until now I didn't have hard evidence, but now there's no convincing me otherwise: the NFL is just as corrupt as the NBA and the SEC, and they want to be in bed with the money handlers at TU.  Yeah, I'm sure it's PURE coincidence the NFL draft worked out for Green Bay to conveniently land Golden, just as Texas is recruiting Finley. Everyone knows Finley's top choice is Notre Dame, a midwest school with genuine Catholic, American values.  No shock the Sips are calling all their friends (including Goodell) to trick Finley into abandoning his first love and following the skank down the street.  She will chew you up and spit you out, my man.

This is personal for me.  I've been a loyal NFL combine and NFL draft watcher since my great uncle Terry put me up on his shoulders so I could watch John Roper run drills at the 1989 combine.  But what I saw this year sickened me, and I had no choice but to take a deep breath, gently turn off the TV, and find something more deserving of my hard earned time and money.  NFL is never getting another DIME from me.  The free marketing for the TU defensive end -- a 4th round pick! -- as he walked to the podium and bear hugged by Goodell (or should I say, Bad-ell).  What other 4th round pick IN THE HISTORY OF THE DRAFT got the red carpet treatment?

Recruiting thoughts to start the week

I'm back in Texas after 12 days on the road. There was a lot learned, a number of sources spoken with and more.

1. Texas is a cool school/hot team on the trail. Dia Bell talked about, top prospects are back to responding to the question of if they would have interest in visiting Texas with "Of course, it's Texas". Kids in the Southeast Region of ages 16-18 know Texas as being in the last two CFB Playoffs, players winning awards, a lot of NFL draft picks and seeing recognizable players signing with and playing at Texas.

2. Texas leads for 4-star++ DL Kendall Guervil (Fort Myers, Fla./High).

3. Texas leads or is right there with Florida and Miami for 4-star+ TE Heze Kent (Brunswick, Ga./High).

4. Texas has a legit shot with 4-star++ DB Justice Fitzpatrick (Fort Lauderdale, Fla./St. Thomas Aquinas). Georgia, Miami and Alabama the comp with Georgia having the long standing relationships and comfort for the parents.

5. I feel really good about OL recruiting. Texas leads or is even with 4-star++ Samuel Roseborough (Clearwater, Fla./High), 5-star John Turntine (Fort Worth, Texas/North Crowley) and 4-star++ Felix Ojo (Mansfield, Texas/Lake Ridge). Texas is in it for 4-star+ Sam Utu (Orange, Calif./Lutheran) and felt good about the visit with 4-star+ Malakai Lee (Honolulu, Hi./Kamehameha).

6. I like the net cast with defensive line recruiting, but I can see it playing out into the season.

7. WInning out for one of the Peach State LB's is going to be key. 5-star Xavier Griffin (Gainesville, Ga./High) and 4-star++ Brayden Rouse (Marietta, Ga./Kell) are very much in play.

8. Texas has a legit shot to flip 4-star++ WR and Texas A&M verbal Aaron Gregory (Douglassville, Ga./Douglas County).

9. OTF places Texas as a slight favorite over Clemson and South Carolina for 4-star++ CB Samari Matthews (Cornelius, N.C./Hough).

10. Texas is ALL IN on 4-star++ DB Davon Benjamin (Westlake Village, Calif./Oaks Christian). Mark Orphey and Johnny Nansen will be back at the school this week.

11. The Texas staff will be back on the road this week. AJ Milwee will see Dia Bell one more time, plus seeing 2027 QB's. Mark Orphey will see Benjamin, Samari Matthews and Justice Fitzpatrick. Kenny Baker will see DL's and be in Atlanta area. Chad Scott is expected by Carthage High, and Texas is ALL IN on K.J. Edwards.

I love that we are shooting our shot. Hopefully we can also find a few more 3 star +++-+^^% diamonds in the rough

I don’t think I’ve ever seen Texas extend their reach so far out of state for the defensive front four/five prospects, and it’s great. People called last year a down year in Texas for DL, and this year is even worse.

Compared to this time last year, DL seems to be in better shape (knock on wood) as it looks like we are seriously engaging a larger number of “Plan A’s” and seem to be in better position with them. Kind of comical last year that the staff was putting a lot of faith in landing Kevin Wynn, who wanted to go to a culinary program (which we don’t have) and whose dad was a die hard FSU fan.

EDGE, however, could go in any number of directions…does anyone have any idea how this will shake out?  Dre Quinn seems like the only prospect that likes Texas as much as the staff likes him.

Landon Barnes is in-state, has tOSU and UGA offers, and we seem to be right on schedule in that recruitment: https://247sports.com/player/landon-barnes-46148025/

On Zaden Krempin, from Horns 247 (Hank South)

Texas offensive coordinator and OL coach Kyle Flood made two stops on Wednesday night -- one to see four-star offensive tackle John Turntine III and another to visit four-star offensive tackle Zaden Krempin.

Horns247 has long projected the former in UT's 2026 class. That remains unchanged. But for Krempin, Horns247 is starting to hear more Texas chatter speaking with sources about the Prosper product. It's not a huge shock considering Krempin has been a regular on the Forty Acres, and has an official visit set to Austin for June 13-15, but we have yet to dive in on projecting him in the class.

I feel better about the prospects of that happening now more than I have so far in this recruitment.

We'll continue to see how things play out going into OV season. Krempin has visits set to LSU, Texas A&M, SMU, Texas, and Michigan. (HANK SOUTH)

Does Jermicheal come around the program much?

I imagine he will visit more often when his son is here.

Our recruiting has gone so national that IT made Justin Wells leave East Texas. He must be lost and confused.

Justin Wells, two blunts in after driving from East Texas to Alabama: "Alright Vodney, need you to stand by your locker and strike a crucifixion pose. Excellent, that's perfect, I've got a long drive back so gotta run, cool if I just say you have a good relationship with Kenny Baker?"

In-state offer

Freeze, Flood, the crops are done either way

CJ Vogel

Texas extended an offer to 2026 Cy Springs WR/ATH Paris Melvin Jr. Friday afternoon.

Melvin, a 5-foot-11-inch and 170-pound playmaker, now holds 35 offers in his recruitment with the Longhorns joining the race. Speaking of races, Melvin was a member of the Cy Springs state qualifying 4x1 relay earlier this spring.

Melvin was also named the 16–6A District MVP in 2024.

Worth monitoring this offer with one true athlete in the boat with Jermaine Bishop Jr., and Texas right in the hunt for another in Jalen Lott.
