Good, his OBP will tick up and our odds of scoring increases. That means the net effect of his play is positive (I think).

And the team is still better when he plays. Nothing else should matter because he’s not a bad guy, just a weirdo, and the team is not adversely affected by his inclusion in the lineup in any way (quite the opposite).

Completely 100% agree. Just adding a little color.

If we're just not going to be legit contenders this season — and that looks more and more to be the case — I assume we'd much rather know it now than the week after the trade deadline. Doesn't make the buy/sell decision a snap in either case, but at least it gives us a better chance to add needed weaponry for the future.

Deadline needs:

1. lefty hitting everyday OF (ok if it’s a rental)

2. SP capable of starting a playoff game (ok if it’s a rental)

3. High leverage RP (needs to be controlled beyond this season)

To get those holes filled, the Astros can offer: an extra everyday caliber OF (Meyers, McCormick, or Julks), a extra BoR SP (Bielak, Blanco, Urquidy, or France), a solid group of 2nd/3rd tier prospects (Melton, Lee, Arrighetti, Loperfido, etc.), and some payroll flexibility.  Even in a sellers’ market they should be able to get what they need, without trading away any of their core players or their top prospect (Gilbert).
