Have fun at your tailgate!  One day I'm sure your team will be popular enough to fill up a real parade route through a city instead of recreating a Turkey Trot.

This cope post might actually be more sad than what elguapo has posted. Maybe Astros fans should take the day off...like people in DFW are doing to watch the World Series parade.

Suck Ranger cock.

Hence why Houston is aggy at heart. The stuff I have read trying to deflect and downplay the Rangers not only winning it all, but beating Houston to get it done, is some Texags shit. Right after we beat Houston, immediately it was "yeah but Philly is going to push your shit in!". Yeah well, maybe they shouldn't also blow a 3-2 lead going back home like Houston. Then we see pics of how bad the ratings are down this series. Boo hoo who the fuck cares about tv ratings that should only matter to tv execs and advertisers. And this isn't all Astros fans at all. But definitely a noticeable amount doing everything they can to try and spin this. Every single thing Astros fans had in their ammo towards against the Rangers disappeared in the last 2 weeks. Texas beat them to get to the WS. But you still had some saying "hurrr durrrr it means zero if you lose the WS, we will come back and laugh". Lmao. Just like aggy, needing to root for someone else to do the job you couldn't. Riding the coat tails of another team. So, Houston desperately held out hope that somehow Texas would lose the WS. That way, they can still have that in their ammo. And keep posting Cruz gifs and calling Texas choke artists and losing a 3rd WS. But Texas won 3 straight in Arizona. And left no doubt. Holding Arizona to 2 measly runs against pitchers not against the bottom depths of our bullpen. Houston now has zero to say to Texas that means shit. Forever world champions. 1-0 against Houston in the playoffs. Adolis Garcia dropping his nuts all over their team in their own park.

Poooor agggy. Whoop!

Forget deGrom, because he's *always* hurt.  That was just a boneheaded trade.

The others: 4 injuries, none longer than about a quarter of the season?  Yeah, that is not a bad run of injuries.  Christ, it adds up the same as one guy missing the whole season.

Edit: okay, add Heim and Gray.  It's an average run of injuries, guys.  It probably cost you a few games in standings.  It didn't turn a 105-win team into a 90-win team.  Fun fact: no one's ever won 105 without having half a dozen guys go to the IL, too.

Christ, this is some silliness.  Most of y'all were burying your own team on your own thread a month ago.  Now, they were the best team all year?  Come on, man.

this guy out here telling us to forget the 8-10 additional wins degrom would have been good for on this team over the full season, saying injuries probably cost us a few games but not 15. that’s the real silliness.

It doesn't matter who the Rangers beat in the playoffs, how long it took to win one, or how many the Astros have versus the Rangers. What matters is we got one and one of the most enjoyable aspects is we dispatched the Astros in the most cruelest of fashions to earn our way to the World Series. But parse it however you want, you can't take it away from us.

So you're saying that DeGrom would have been .5-2.5 WAR better than Gerrit Cole this past season, also exceeding his career-best WAR seasons that he posted 4 and 5 years ago?  Is that the argument here?

your math is dumb.

no.  a healthy degrom with 30 odd starts would effectively replace our number 5 starters starts.  that's a lot more wins.  it's not a WAR measrurement.

DeGrom hasn't had more than 15 starts in a season since 2019.

How will Astros fans cope when they miss the playoffs next year? They might lose half of their fanbase.

They truly think they’re a contender next year. Pure math says even if they win the west (they won’t) they’re not going anywhere in the playoffs. No one is making fucking 8 LCS’s in a row.

I'm not the one wishcasting the number of DeGrom's "expected" starts and expecting him to exceed his career winning percentage with no weight given to recent performance data.

It's not just that.  Texas did not have a single starting pitcher with a losing record this season (except for Yerry Rodriguez who went 0-1 in an opener role).  That's pretty incredible.  But because of that stat, there is no mathematical way that even prime DeGrom is going to give you 8-10 more wins than your 5th starters did this season.

Can you elaborate why we wouldn’t be? Vegas/common sense seems to think we are contenders (like the rangers)

Name a key contributor to the Astros 2023 team who won't be returning next season.  I'll wait.

We're about to add roughly 3 WAR (conservatively) at the catching position.

We have a couple of pitching wild cards returning (McCullers/Garcia) that could shore up pitching.

Our GOAT probably won't miss more than a third of the season in 2024.

We have a couple of areas where we can improve in free agency.

Go ahead and bury the Astros.  It will make next year more fun.

lol.  i'm not sure it is possible to believe that adding a fully healthy cy young winner doesn't give you 8-10 more wins.

when the rangers trotted out something a little subpar, they were well sub-.500 (e.g., in Bradford starts (8 times), Rangers were 1-7 (.125). When Dunning started (26 times), they were 13-13).

You just give "even a prime deGrom" those Bradford starts and you probably flip around that 1-7.  And you have 16 more starts to give him from Dunning. There's "no mathematical way" the Rangers end up with two more wins?  That's to say nothing of the downstream affects of the bullpen being less taxed because you've got an ace pitching in those games so they could be more rested for other games.

Okay then LMJ is worth 4 more Altuve 4 more Alvarez 2 more and let’s throw in 1 for Garcia. Bam 101 wins.

lol. Good luck with that.

Everyone’s coming back, but minus Yordan they’ll all just be another year into their decline. And there’s zero high quality FA’s this off-season outside of Shohei. None. You won’t find help there.

Cy Young winner in 2019 who hasn't pitched a full season since then.

deGrom's career WP is .596, so flipping that W-L record around is highly doubftul.

I can kind of fix your argument by saying "i'm not sure it is possible to believe that using a time machine to bring in a fully healthy cy young winner from 2018-2019 doesn't give you 8-10 more wins."

i'm not sure you can hold a thought for 30 seconds.

you: "a prime deGrom couldn't do this."

me: of course a prime deGrom could, see.

you: "haha, why are you talking about a prime deGrom?"

I sure as shit can't follow your nonsense and bullshit stats.  Bradford was 4-3 in 8 starts for .1 WAR.  Dunning was 12-7 in 26 starts for 3.0 WAR.  That's 34 starts.  if PRIME deGrom steps in with his 9.5 WAR from 2018, that's only a difference of 6.4 WAR.

Forget WAR.  Let's just use records.  Dunning/Bradford were 16-10 in 34 starts.  To improve by 8-10 wins, deGrom would have to record 24 wins at a minimum in his 30 starts.

So the theoretical math works, but the REAL WORLD math does not.  Even for deGrom at his very best ever, which is five years in the past.

OK... I conflated Bradford's wins in relief with his wins as a starter.  Same with Dunning.

Refactoring the starter records:

Dunning:  10-7

Bradford: 1-3

Combined: 11-10

8 to 10 games better would require deGrom to win 19 of 30 starts.  Still not a realistic expectation.

i'm not sure if you know what a start is.

a start is when you start the game as a pitcher.  it usually follows the national anthem.  the inning will read "1."  in stats, it is often signified by a GS.  the rangers were 1-7 when bradford starts.  he also got results as a reliever.

it's confusing, but you can think of it as the time that javier got an out.  that was a start.  when maton got an out, the inning still read '1' but didn't count as a start.  that might be what's messing you up.

Fixed my post because I realized my error before you pointed it out.  Thanks, though.

Not really fair to tag Bradford with three extra Ls with the 1-7 stat.
