The Stampede: 10 recruits Texas is in good position for in the 2027 cycle

Horns247 Staff

Though the 2026 recruiting class remains the focus for Steve Sarkisian, Brandon Harris, and the rest of the Longhorns' recruiting department, the page is starting to get turned to the 2027 class with the rising junior class entering their third year of high school and their most important season of high school football, or at least when it comes to recruiting.

With the Texas recruiting department being the well oiled machine it is, the Longhorns have already extended 118 offers in the 2027 class by our count, but today we're here to talk about 10 specific recruits.

In this week's edition of The Stampede, Horns247's weekly gathering of recruiting intel, Hank South and Jordan Scruggs team up to breakdown 10 recruits Texas is in a good position for in the 2027 cycle.

Let's get into it!

Chandler (Ariz.) Basha Top247 RB Noah Roberts —

Stan Drayton landed a big-time running back from Arizona in Bijan Robinson, Tashard Choice landed another in Christian Clark, now Chad Scott is on the clock for his share of Grand Canyon State playmakers. The Longhorns offered Roberts in early May off a season he rushed for 1,067 yards and 19 touchdowns, to go with 358 yards receiving and another five scores.

Texas, Oregon, Arizona State, Ohio State and Washington are the schools of note early for Roberts, who holds 10.7 track speed.

He'll narrow his list down further this fall, but the Longhorns are squarely among consideration for the 6-foot-1, 190-pounder. (SOUTH)

Pflugerville Weiss Top247 WR Tre Moore —

Moore is the first local wide receiver prospect to collect an offer from the Longhorns since the 2023 cycle, and he's the highest ranked receiver prospect to come out of Austin since 2022. As you can assume, it was a big deal when Texas joined the race by offering at January's Junior Day. Moore has returned for visits a handful of times since and saw several Texas practices this spring.

An Oklahoma and Alabama legacy, sources are high on Texas and Texas A&M's position at this early juncture, but schools like Alabama, LSU, or Oregon can't be discounted down the stretch either. Moore comes from a long line of college athletes and has an uncle that played wide receiver in the NFL so him and his camp have gone about the process in an incredibly calculated way and will be patient and smart with their recruiting process with a commitment timeline set for next year.

"Sometimes he talks to me about his time in the NFL," Moore said about his conversations with Chris Jackson. "He showed me the NFL playbook and man it's a lot, it's a lot. And he was telling me how he really grooms the receivers to be great and how he's pushing receivers out [out to the NFL] every year so if you come in there as a freshman you have a chance to play."

"They're very professional," Moore said about Texas' practices. "They do what needs to be done. There's not a lot of talking but they do what needs to be done and then they get out."

So what is Moore expecting from the Longhorns in 2025?

"I'm expecting big things. I'm expecting a National Championship out of them. I believe they can do it, we just gotta see what's gonna happen." (SCRUGGS)

Fort Bend Crawford Top247 WR Alvin Mosley —

One of the rare dual-sport athletes with legit offers in both football and basketball, Mosley is a hyperathletic 6-foot-2, 185 pounder that's just now starting to tap into his potential on the gridiron. Though Mosley's recruitment took longer than it should've to get going due to the fact that Mosley is playing at a brand new school very few people have heard of, but the race eventually took off once the spring evaluation period rolled around and programs were able to see him practice in person. 18 offers later, and Mosley holds scholarships from Arkansas, Florida State, TCU, SMU, and Texas and he'll be collecting plenty more before all is said and done.

Mosley is high on the Longhorns after visiting and earning an offer after competing at Texas' June 1st Elite Camp earlier this summer. The offer came just weeks after Chris Jackson went to see Mosley at his school in May where he invited Mosley to camp in Austin.

"It feels good," Mosley said after getting the offer. "It's a big school, and it's really big. I was with coach Sark and coach Jackson and they were all talking to me, helping me through the drills and everything. It felt good, it felt good out there."

Mosley received his offer after the camp from Steve Sarkisian himself.

"It was after the camp. Coach Jackson told me to go with coach Sark and I went and we talked and he offered me," Mosley said. "I tried to keep a straight face, but I was smiling hard."

Where did the Longhorns stand after the June offer?

"Texas is at the top for sure," Mosley said. "Texas is a big program. They just went deep in the playoff this year so that's really big." (SCRUGGS)

Argyle Top247 WR Julian Caldwell —

The 6-foot, 170 pound field-stretching Caldwell owns several sub-11 100M times and averaged 27.66 yards per catch as a sophomore, which will always catch the attention of Steve Sarkisian and Co. Raised in a burnt orange house, Caldwell grew up a fan of the Longhorns and attended several games at DKR throughout his childhood years. Though the Longhorns are strong in that aspect, Caldwell isn't going to pick his college destination based off who he grew up rooting for, and Texas will have to outlast other contenders Oregon and LSU, though the childhood fandom part certainly doesn't hurt.

"Just continuing to build our relationship and show that we can work together," Caldwell said about Chris Jackson after the June 1 Elite Camp. "He's a very high-energy man. He's very knowledgeable. You can tell he knows a lot about the game and he can develop me into the receiver I want to be."

The rising junior also sat down with Steve Sarkisian.

"It was great," he said. "He has big goals for this team. I think he can take them to the national championship this year."

"They're up there. I'ma say that," Caldwell said after the camp. "They've been my dream school since I was a little kid. I come to all the games. It's definitely a school of high interest for me." (SCRUGGS)

Crowley three-star WR Tay Ellis —

Ellis has a strong football and track profile, excelling in both through the first two years of his high school career. So far, Ellis has hauled in 91 catches for 1,502 receiving yards and 18 touchdowns on an average of 16.5 yards per catch. He's caught the attention of plenty of programs, Texas included.

"It stands out a lot," Ellis said of Texas' WR success in the last few years earlier this year. "The relationship piece, the culture, it's very important to me but what's even more important to me is your track record. Because I see myself going to the league so if you have a good track record that definitely makes you stick out more than other coaches."

Texas, Ohio State, Oregon, Texas A&M, SMU, Oklahoma, TCU, and USC are schools of note for the 6-foot, 175-pounder.

"Texas is definitely standing out with Coach Jackson," Ellis told 247Sports one month ago. (SOUTH)

San Antonio Roosevelt Top247 OT Kaeden Scott —

Scott's recruitment has all the makings of a Texas-Texas A&M battle when all is said and done. He's had the opportunity to get to know offensive line coach Kyle Flood since the staff offered in October of last year. Scott is a verified 6-foot-6, 290 pounds with 35-inch arms. You can see why Texas, and plenty of others, covet the San Antonio area standout. (SOUTH)

Dallas South Oak Cliff Top247 OT Brian Swanson —

From our read this spring it'll come down to Texas, Texas A&M and Oklahoma for Swanson, who could make a case for the top offensive lineman in the state for 2027. The Longhorns staff is treating him as a priority in the early going. Texas offered Swanson prior to his sophomore year if that shows you how high the staff thinks of him. He'll be another national profile recruit, but keep an eye on the Longhorns at this point. (SOUTH)

Gilmer Top247 OT Ismael Camara —

The rising 6-foot-6, 330-pound junior already has a national profile, with heavy interest in out-of-state schools like Florida, Colorado, and Tennessee. Camara's great grandfather was three-sport athlete at UF. When Camara was offered by Texas early last month, he noted his big brother, former Texas great Curtis Brown, forged the path from Gilmer. That connection could pay dividends in this recruitment that will feature plenty of competition going forward. (SOUTH)

DeSoto Top247 DL K'Adrian Redmond —

The Top247 d-line is the second ranked defensive line prospect in the state in the 2027 class and has been on the Texas radar for over a year even though he didn't pick up his offer till this spring. Regardless of the timing on the offer, Redmond has already made it down to Texas three if not four times already and the Longhorns are high on the list with Texas A&M at this early juncture.

"It's the atmosphere," Redmond told Horns247 in March of what draws him to a return trip. "Everybody's involved, everybody supports everyone else at Texas. They go to the baseball games, to the basketball games, and I can see the support,"

Apart from the Longhorns, Redmond was upfront about what other schools are standing out in his recruitment early on.

"It's Texas and A&M, that's about it right now," he said. (SCRUGGS)

Waxahachie Top247 S JayQuan Snell —

The Lone Star State's top ranked 2027 safety prospect has held an offer from the Longhorns longer than anyone else on this list as Snell's has been a Texas target going back to when Terry Joseph and Blake Gideon were calling the shots in Texas' secondary. The Top247 safety has returned to campus several times since and made it to Austin twice this spring and summer to see the new defensive back staff at Texas. Those trips have helped Texas' chances in the short and long run, but it'll be a national race for the 6-foot-3, 200 pounder who already holds north of three dozen offers.

"It's been a blessing really. It's been pretty good to bond with the new coaches that came in and just get to know them, and them get to know me as well, and just build that relationship and hopefully we can keep building."

When asked what stands out or separates the Texas secondary staff compared to the secondary staffs of other top tier programs that are in the hunt for Snell, the Waxahachie product gave an insightful answer on what he's noticed from being around Duane Akina, Mark Orphey, and Keynodo Hudson this spring.

"Well, they stand out a lot more than a lot of other schools, just the way they coach. Coach Akina, he's old school and I like that about him. He gets on your butt and they're a brotherhood when it comes to a coaching staff. You can tell that they spend a lot of time together and that rubs us off on the players." (SCRUGGS)
