This.  It’s the trap of being so committed to counter punching( taking what the defensive alignment “gives”) that you don’t develop a consistent identity(plays you execute with cutthroat skill) as an offense.  Sarks biggest failure IMPO

Yep. Sark is most definitely a numbers guy.

Can we stop talking about Arch last year as if it has any fucking relevance to the piece of shit product we’re seeing this year?

I think that people are just wondering WTF? Arch last year looked like someone you'd expect to be at least a competent QB. This year he mostly looks like someone only vaguely familiar with the rudiments of the position. I don't expect him to magically become better because of last year, but seriously--WTF? Did Sarkesian put him through some kind of Clockwork Orange conditioning? Does he now panic at the sight of a football?

what poster used to make those video breakdowns each week that really helped some(like me) not bitch as much after seeing slow motion film of our offense and defense.

The poster you’re referring to, I think, was NeedsMoreBourbon.

Incredible content. If he’s still doing his thing somewhere, I would pay a solid subscription fee for his stuff.

sark isn’t out here like, “oh shit i need to win right now, my seat is hot, better bench (see: alienate and send to the portal) the one guy i’ve built this entire program around!”. benching arch would mean that sark is admitting complete failure when it comes to his ability to coach up “the greatest qb prospect ever”, and that’s not how sark (or any coach) works.

arch is *the* focal point for this organization (as it were). the entire plan revolves around arch being the guy, and i’m sorry, but you don’t know shit shout coaches if you think they’re likely to just give up on “their guy” after seven games because it’s not going well. and to do so in this case would be blowing up the whole thing and starting from scratch. you think sark wants to give up on arch for the rest of this year and go into next year with more uncertainty than ever? stop thinking that this is about winning games today and start realizing that this is about sark seeing his plan to fruition, a plan which squarely revolves around arch manning.

There’s also the sunk cost fallacy though

Arch had plenty of fuckups in this game, no need to invent new ones.

The play call? The rush is coming. You can see it out of the corner of your eye. Get rid of the football. What do you think coaches tell you to do in this situation vs a blitz?

1) keep running the play and take the sack

2)abort the play and throw the ball away

3)throw the ball to the first available guy you see who is free

I don’t need a video breakdown to see a ball bounce at a receivers feet or the QB hold the ball for 4 seconds

Look. To anyone who truly wants to know and isnt just look for an alternate reason to protect their own ego. Just go back and watch the Miss St game from last year. His best game. Miss St was such a bad team that it really didnt matter what we did because it was all working. They had no pass rush and couldn't stop the run. But if you watch it you can see the same issues. Arch had all day to throw but pay attention to how slowly he is going through his progressions. Pay attention to where in the route he is hitting guys. Intermediate throws are never on the break. Always at the middle or end of the route. Trying to take the top off the defense consistently. On his runs he stands back there forever and then takes off. Its all there. Even in his successes. We were too busy celebrating to see it. But if you were paying attention you said to yourself, he is going to have to speed that up if he hopes to remain upright against competent defenses. A little while later we saw all those issues come to fruition vs Georgia. So did Sark. Which is why he pulled him after two series and put Ewers back in there.

Go on YouTube and watch the condensed version on Texas Clips. Speed past all the defense and just watch the offense. I honestly dont know how anyone is surprised at what they are seeing. Seriously.

I like you and you're a smart guy, but you've lost the plot on this one.

Wingo is the DECOY. Sark designed and called the play. You are asking Arch to abandon the play, instead of the OL to execute.

Come back to reality.

This sounds like a Sark teaching problem. Quinn also struggled with recognizing the blitz and got drilled against Georgia before he could dump it off to the hot route. Quinn would also ignore open crossers in the middle of the field in favor of throwing screens behind the LOS. At least Quinn was quick enough to throw the screens, Arch can’t even do that.

The problems we were all bitching about with Quinn are magnified exponentially with Arch throwing it in the dirt and behind his receivers. Quinn wasn’t as terrible as Arch, but he would also throw it in a way where receivers would have to twist around and adjust to the ball behind them instead of putting the ball out in front of them. At least Quinn threw a catchable ball, Arch can’t even do that. This is all bad teaching by Sark and it’s showing even more because Arch is worse. It looks like the only reason Caldwell seems good is because his QB mind hasn’t been completely infected with Sark’s teaching methods.

oh man. Pretty much sums up our offense.

A wide open receiver.
An open receiver who could be completion with a good throw

And an OL getting absolutely beat with a RB who’s supposed to protecting the Qb staring off into space / blocking a ghost.

The worst part is it isnt even some cherry picked thing. It was just one of about 12 examples.

If the ball hits you in the hands you are supposed to catch it.  Wingo currently requires a perfectly throne ball to make the catch. Arch ain't perfect by any means, but there were plenty of catchable balls our guys weren't coming up with yesterday.

George R. R. Morton designed an air raid offense. He called it The Game of Throwns.

Some of us were seeing the holding of the ball. Errant passes. Inability to play inside the structure of the offense. But we were touted as haters. We even brought receipts in the form of video and was accused of putting together "lowlights". I was dead right about Arch Derka but now we wanna blame every damn thing under the sun in order to not have to own up. Its he changed his mechanics. Then its the play calling. Its the line. Its every damn thing under the sun but him. Caldwell comes in and gets the ball out. No sack or pressure. Arch comes right back in and is running for his life. You guys just refuse to take ownership of being wrong. We will probably light Miss St up again and everyone here will proclaim the ship lighted. Rinse and repeat. But you do you. Carry on.

When did Caldwell come in and get the ball out? I think he had 1 completion against the competition that does not count when Arch is in, according to you.

Ryan Wingo raises his hands and jumps  in the air almost immediately after the ball is snapped. It’s a clear sign that he is a distraction/decoy in the play design.

Wanting Arch to throw it to him there is literally asking him to overrule the play call in real time. A ridiculous ask.

The failure of this one play is on Sark. It requires excellent timing/rhythm and good protection, two things that don’t exist in this passing offense right now.

Huh? No disrespect but the way this is worded is tough to understand. Caldwell had thrown 10 passes and completed 7 of them, including the one in the Florida game. Now I wanna make it clear that I am not advocating for him to come in. Just pointing out that he dropped back and threw the ball with no issues and the very next play the O-line went right back to Arch running for his life.

Why not? We know Sark won’t do it unless there’s an injury or we’re getting blown out but you’ve pointed out all the reasons Arch isn’t getting it done. Every play Caldwell has run has been decisive

How do you even know that?  And even IF that's the case, that's an easy 5-8 yard completion if not more if he's elusive enough.

It was the only good play on our last possession against Florida with the game on the line. It's only one play, but it was high pressure with Caldwell going in cold. I'm thinking it was one of those nice plays with a receiver open for a nice gain. It's not hard throw. Arch had not a single play like that on that possession.

Because I've watched a lot of football?  Receivers on the LOS that raise their hands and jump at the snap are decoys. Always.

Anyone saying the opposite just doesn't know what they are talking about.

A) Wingo shouldn't do that.

B) Arch gets hit before Endries clears.

C) I assume Moore should be checking HOT, but he's not.

D) "Just throw it" is literally how Mateer had a nearly 6 INT game against us.  You actually just want to take a sack sometimes.

Yeah, that isn't a Arch issue, that is a Sark issue. Thinking Kentucky is going to be fooled by the window dressing that hasn't fooled them all night. I knew this game was going to be a problem when we had it third and two and tried running the double reverse pass to the TE and Kentucky wasn't fooled at all. Meanwhile, Sarkisian waits until the final drive to acutally call plays that could work against their defense, then reverts back to shit in OT.

Sarkisian and Manning just aren't a match.

Sark loves the deep ball. Took him awhile to give up on throwing it with Quinn. He eventually went to basically OZ and screen offense (obviously over-simplified). Manning stands in there and takes a shot. He has a good deep ball. That is Sark crack. Arch isnt ready to carry this offense and the OL cannot hold up for that shit. Sark needs to stop trying to live up to his rep as a play caller/designer and figure out an offense that fits this group. Anything requiring 3 seconds of protection is DOA.

My biggest concern right now with Arch is his mentality. Yes, he's working hard. Yes, he's taking a beating and shown toughness standing in the pocket. He owns his mistakes and poor play. Plenty of blame falls on Sark's shoulders and a piss poor OL too. The shitty offense has been a total team and staff effort.

But Arch has got to start being a leader.

When asked recently on a OTF podcast, Bobby (or Gerry, can't remember) tentatively named Wisner as a team leader on offense. That's not gonna work for us. Tre is awesome and he was the clear offensive MVP vs. OU. But the QB has to be the leader. Quinn might not have been super demonstrative, but his air of confidence and cool demeanor had a very positive effect with his leadership skills.

The outside pressure and national media attention has caused this team and staff to react with protectiveness with Arch. I get it, they have good intentions. Taaffe was acting like a big brother trying to defend Arch post-game. But it's not working.

Sark always praised Arch for being a "great teammate" and just one of the guys the last two years while he sat behind Quinn. That you wouldn't know he was a famous hotshot Manning by the way he interacted with the team. That's great and I have a lot of respect for Arch trying to blend in.

But he is the starting QB at the University of Texas now. And he has to flip that switch and become a leader. Embrace the accountability. Hold yourself and your teammates accountable. The spark starts with him.
