OK, I guess Kermit's right--maybe Pop does need to hang it up.

Cuz fuck The Nephew. Always and forever.

So mixed on this

Kawhi did help us get 14, he helped cement Duncan from all time tier 2 to all time tier 1.

And kawhi on his post game.. he's right.  I'd boo the shit out of him in a game but if I did see him at a taqueria I'd prob say nice things to his face..

I was at the game tonight. Completely stunned when he did that, in the middle of a fucking game. Like it's a completely normal sports thing, since when are ANY sports fans better than that?

Also, Branham does not need to be starting in the NBA. And some other guys like Champaigne and Bassey belong either in Austin or way at the end of the bench. The fact that those guys see minutes tells me how thin we are on talent right now. The bench is a mess.

It is becoming increasingly clear that Duncan made Pop more than Pop made Duncan. Pop is too arrogant and full of himself to see how badly he has lost the plot. Hopefully he figures it out asap or just retires so we don't piss away a generational talent.

Pop regularly says Duncan made him. Doesn’t mean he’s not a good coach.

Duncan is to Pop what Brady was to Bellichick. It's pathetic, Pop is the old man shouting get off my lawn, he's become less tolerable than Steve Kerr. Pop should've retired with dignity years ago, now he's just a sad joke. Imagine stopping a game to tell fans to stop booing a player that knifed the franchise in the back and sent the Spurs into the death spiral that they find themselves in today.

I am paying top dollar for my tickets as long as I'm being respectful to the people around me I can boo the opponent if I feel like it. Its a sporting event he's a "villain" to our team. Where was he when the boos would pour down on old man crawford? (Fuck him by the way) its not a matter of class its about being a fan(atic)

Pop is old and is acting as if he can't be fired. And maybe he's right and he can't be fired.  At this point I'm tired of his shit and he's going to end up wasting a generational talent. He needs to go.

Also fuck Kawhi Leonard. Now and forever.

Oh and I just watched the video. Fuck Pop. Get this fucking guy out of here.

The sheer fucking audacity. I still can’t believe he walked to the microphone to lecture the fans. After sobering up, 8 hours of sleep, Thanksgiving lunch, more alcohol, and the traditional audition of the finger puppets, it’s still one of the more condescending things I’ve seen a professional coach do. Credit to San Antonio, they booed that idiot louder after that.

Stumbled into this thread for the first time in a long time. Pretty shocked to see all the Pop hate, and anger over the team’s play. It’s almost like some of you don’t even understand the game at all.

Pop is widely regarded as one of the greatest coaches to ever coach, bringing an offensive scheme that led to multiple championships and is now copied by multiple teams around the NBA. Several NBA coaches came from his coaching tree.

As to the performance of the team over the last several years, if you had paid attention to the other teams in the NBA you’d realize that it is extremely difficult to maintain for long periods the type of success the Spurs had. It’s unprecedented.

At some point, every franchise has to rebuild. The Spurs have dumped the last two years and this year, to get Wemby and whatever else they will get from a war chest of draft picks. What they are in the process of doing should have very positive results. They have a few more steps to take before it’s done, and in the meantime they need to lose, and get their young guys experience.

The fact that some of you don’t understand this makes you weak pussy ass Spurs fans.

Say what you will about pop and whether he was just a product of Tim, but he instilled the culture that permeates the franchise. They were a bush league mom and pop (no pun) store before he was put in charge. For God's sake, Bob Bass literally used to fix the toilets in the Hemisfair Arena. Now the league is peppered with his minions on the bench and in front offices that have tried to emulate what he's built. You can't deny his accomplishments.

And as far as I'm concerned he's earned the right to go out in his own terms and let's face it, nobody in the organization has the gravitas to shit can him any way. Barring finding out that he's been covering up for Bret Brown molesting the ballboys in the locker room, he ain't going nowhere until he wants to.

That said, he's operating with complete autonomy and he has entered into naked emperor territory. At some point we need to question if he's getting too old for the job and if his judgment is sound. I thought it was really fucked up when he started dating Bud's ex wife. His politics don't bother me as much as it does that he doesn't expound as thoughtfully about his basketball team as he does on the events of the day. But still, he don't give a fuck. He's clearly going to do whatever he wants and there's really nobody who's going to tell him anything any more. Winning is the great deodorant and literally no coach has done more winning than him but come the fuck on. If anyone is immune from this kind of shit it's him but holy shit last night he was as embarrassing as the on the court product has been.

I'm not quite ready for him to go but it wouldn't upset me nearly as much as it used to.

Wemby has been assisted on 61 field goals. Sochan has 5 of those. That is criminal to Wemby.

It's criminal to Sochan too.

He was one of the most interesting players last year and his strengths could have been developed instead of forcing him into a position he's never played before.

And that is showing and it's shitty for him.

Maybe next year or the year after whatever he's learning will pay dividends.

Hopefully with an actual starting PG and ball handler/facilitator on the team by then.

It's hard to believe they haven't won since Wemby went off against Phoenix.

They suck but the schedule has not been kind. The in season tourney group they got thrown into was particularly brutal. The defense is particularly horrid and tough to watch. I think I could live with a lot of the offensive offense, but they aren't competing on defense worth a shit. That said, they have actually been playing a little better of late. There are some glimmers of hope, but yeah... they are going to end up with a top 5 pick again almost certainly.

I'm going to allocate my time during the rest of this season to mentally filtering out the good shit that Wemby does while averting my eyes to just about everything else going on, and then scouting the draft and writing coyote / Pop / Mary Bet Budenholzer fantasy porn.

This is basically where I am. I love watching Wemby (and Sochan and DV... sometimes) but the rest of the team just pisses me the fuck off to where it's hard to sit through a game. We're almost 20 games in and are somehow incapable of throwing a fucking entry pass or lob in transition to Wemby. He should be putting up 25-28 a night in his sleep.

Playing Branham any minutes is a recipe for losing, which is why he’s starting I guess.

He needs to be in the G League. He is about two levels below a replacement offensive PG and a level below on D. He has a fucking -6.7 BPM.

Overall - I'm not really sure what the hell Pop is doing. My main hope is that Wemby winds up being too good for anyone to fuck it up. I'm not super optimistic so far based on what I've seen this season.

He actually has some good spots last night, when the game was over and Denver had eased off. Actually, that’s harsh. He made shots from behind the arc, for once. He’s a weird player in that there is no redeeming qualities to his game outside of midrange shots. He is definitely the worst defender on the team, and that’s saying something with Doug McDermott breathing in a Spurs uniform. What does he do? What does he offer. I can’t even fantasize about his improvement without going limp. I’d rather play a failing, confidence-less Champagnie at this point. In his defense though, I have seen him throw lobs to Wemby, which is more than I can say for Keldon or Sochan. You can’t throw it high enough, and yet time after time deflection/steal. Maybe it is hard to throw the ball up 15 feet instead of 12.

Jesus fuck can we just keep Wemby and trade for a new team? These fuckers couldn't hit him if he was the ocean and they fell out of a boat. He should be shooting every other time down the floor. He's that much better than everyone else - or if he isn't yet he's going to be.
