"A CBS News data analysis conducted from April 7-18 found that at least 17 states are less than 50% compliant with the law, which goes into effect May 7. "

I’m not sure what this means. What I have read is all newly issued IDs in all 50 states and district of Columbia are real ID compliant. OK was last in 2025. Does that quote mean there are still states issuing non-compliant IDs, or only half the people that need to renew have bothered to renew? In Texas, at least, you have to renew every 10 years, so there shouldn’t be many people left

I think it means people who have not gotten the new ID that is Real ID compliant.

Yes. Took my wife (no pics) almost a year to get her DL renewed thanks to Abbott’s fuckery with DMV staffing so she had been using her passport when flying. Expired DLs usually work but apparently a TSA agent having a bad day might fuck with you on it

I flew out of Love Field a few months back and had forgotten that I'd left my driver's license on the scanner in my office (had to scan it for something).  Fortunately I still had my old expired license in my wallet.  I had to go through additional screening (basically just another pat down and a few questions) but they let me fly.  I did have the license sent to me for the return trip since I wasn't sure if I'd have it as easy on the way back.

Flew to Milwaukee on a Sam’s card in 2008.

Flew from Dhaka Bangladesh to Chittagong with no ID at all.  Our company "fixer" drove his car straight on to the tarmac, handed us our tickets and up the stairs we went.

Would you use a SEAL team for that? Is ordering planes to strafe and bomb the waters around the wreckage too overt?

Shorter chain-of-command and easier to keep things quiet since pretty much everything they do is classified at a higher level, so fewer people in the loop.

Also, probably a lot of verbal orders that can be denied by various people in said chain-of-command.

I have an actual Kiowa buddy who grew up on a reservation.  He tells me that half of the white dudes he has met claim to be 1/16th (not 1/4 as I said earlier) Cherokee.  He assumes because they were deemed one of the most civilized (alphabet etc).

I guess another aspect that seemed strange would be the presence of the SEAL team on site. I guess that indicates this "kill 'em all" mandate was very premeditated. I'm sure the USN likes being ruthless pirates instead of the world's greatest navy.

I heard something that they either launched the missile themselves or had pinpointed the target somehow, but it all seemed odd why they were mentioned and why they were involved, since we have drones that do this stuff now.

Like I said, if they were involved, it's because the powers that be wanted things quiet about what the orders were.

I am guessing that the admirals involved are not going to take the fall by themselves.

I always figured it's because of the cheesy Paul Revere and the Raiders song.  So proud to live; so proud to die.
