Looks like rain at Spa this weekend.

Oh shit. Does that mean Lance Stroll is going to do well again?

The prince of chaos somehow does better in the rain.

Or he’ll bin it on the formation lap.

Williams supposedly came up with a fix for their overheating issues, but it hurts car performance.  Sainz' car broke immediately on his first lap in FP1, so maybe the fix isn't working so great.

These cars create so much spray. I just hope we don’t have another cancelled race behind the safety car like a couple years ago. It sucks these cars can’t actually race in the rain.

Leclerc had a great late breaking move on cold tires to overtake Norris after the Kemmel Straight.

Of course it was all for nothing because the clowns at Ferrari delivered a car that was about a half second per lap slower even with the new rear suspension that was supposed to magically fix all their issues, but it was executed perfectly.

I hope it's at least a little wet. Looks like Aston is banking on rain & gambled with a wet setup for Qualifying.

Keep seeing people act like RBR should have been splitting their parts between two cars when they only have two and if their guy fighting for the championship got floor damage it would have led to a pit lane stop costing him a zillion points?

Man, F1 is a really tough watch sometimes.

"Not going to be very much passing this week. It's a super narrow street course that the cars are just way too fucking big for."

Okay, makes sense.

What about a purpose-built, historical race track with elevation changes and lots of high speed corners?

"Nope. No passing there either."

It all still goes back to the cars being too fucking big and too fucking heavy, both of which are directly contradictory to the DNA of F1. Terrible on a tight street course, terrible in slow corners, and terrible in the rain/wet. And specifically today, the damage to the 'show' was even further exacerbated by not starting the race sooner. All around just a huge waste of a potentially great Sunday at Spa. Dry all weekend and then wet on Sunday - esp at Spa - used to typically be a great recipe. But nah. Let's take this great thing and fuck it all up.

Fucking love Nico

Lulz.

Maybe an unpopular opinion, but I like Nico and am glad to see him on the broadcasts. Always seems to provide insightful color commentary when he fills in for Martin and doesn’t give two effs about asking the awkward question.

Have no idea whether or not it's unpopular but I like Nico too.  I loved the way he grilled Jos.

Jos's lame-ass response, "I'm always quiet."

Brundle jumped in real fast to stop that from getting more awkward.  It was amusing.

Yeah I understand why of course, but I was sorry he did.  That could have been epic.

Yeah Nico's awesome for just not gaf and asking the questions everyone else wants to hear asked. Being a WDC with lifetime Paddock access probably helps in that regard. He's not worried about losing access. He's very quick on his feet and is able to subtly twist the knife or get straight to the meat of the subect when everyone else is dancing around it. He also brings a lot of good insights as a former driver that some of the other ex-drivers don't seem to want to talk about imho. Also, love Ant, Paul (too bad he's gone), & Bernie for just bringing fantastic technical and/or driving insights. Jenson's too nice to say anything remotely controversial about any of the drivers, and Martin is good if you can get past his sometimes blatant biases. Jacques is actually pretty good too, like a crazy French Canadian asshole version of Nico.

Crofty is like that big, goofy yellow lab that runs all over the yard not knowing much but not really needing to know that much (as far I'm concerned). And maybe even that's being too harsh on him imho. He knows a fair amount, but imho probably tosses silly theories and speculation into the discussion just so they get discussed & often dismissed - not necessarily because he actually believes them. He's good at being the guy that holds everything together, imho (which is much more difficult than it looks), and for me, that's all he needs to be. He's there to tie all the experts together, not to be an expert. That Harry Benjamin (?) guy seems to be being groomed for that spot, and he's pretty decent too imho.

Karun is utterly freaking useless and hopelessly annoying, other than being a decent F1 historian. For analytical or current info purposes, he's a big, long-winded bowl of shit. IMHO Ted is great in the Paddock and pitlane, bringing a lot of good info from there in a usually entertaining way.

Simon, Nat, & Naomi are good at the fluffy stuff & the three or more driver features/interviews per race weekend (2 with Lewis + 1 other Brit), so I'll allow them to stay. Karun and Crazy Danica can hit the bricks. /csb

Other than the obvious and probably understandable Brit bias in the Sky coverage, I'm good with it - although it does seem to be getting more and more dumbed down lately a la the old NBC coverage. Gonna be interesting to see what we get if Apple gets (got?) US rights tho.

I don't mind crazy Danica.  She's okay by me.

Karun on the other hand, ugh, what an absolute beating.

And I totally agree on Nico-- not only is he willing and able to discuss the more pointed topics, but he also adds a lot to the driving/technical discussions.  I really do like Jenson but I feel like he's supposed to be covering a similar role and he just doesn't bring as much to it.

Not sure if Crofty is truly bad at math or simply parroting what the people in his ear tell him to say to try to create tension at the end of the races.

There have been multiple instances when he will talk about a driver in second who is "shaving off" a specific amount of time per lap and will it be close and the math just doesn't work out. Plus you have the fact that when he does his "with it be tight at the end" schtick it rarely factors in future deterioration  at the end of the race by the second place driver frying their tires  trying to catch up and/or the leader has much more to give but is simply saving some as was the case with Oscar yesterday.

Yeah that happens so often at the end of races that I really think that's someone in his ear coaching him to manufacture drama where there really is none. And yeah (as is often the case) it was pretty clear that Lando was gaining on Oscar because he was pushing and Oscar was cruising and managing the gap. IMHO had he gotten close enough, Oscar would have just stepped it up a tad.

All true but I can't really fault them for wanting to create some drama.  Newbie race fans won't really ever notice the difference so it makes it exciting for them, and sophisticated race fans can separate the theatrics from the truth easily enough.

Nah I don't blame him/them at all. It's all part of their job, trying to keep as many viewers as they can until the end of the broadcast.

Agreed,  would have been interesting to watch that unfold if Lando had been in Oscar's car and Oscar in Lando's

I can see Oscar stacking up 6-7 high quality laps needed to cut a lead and still have something left in the tires, Lando however, I don't think of him if I was asked who could deliver that type of drive to pull back and win a race.
