I’m a little skeptical that Flood is going anywhere, and I certainly don’t think Sarkisian is going to push for it.

There’s probably an argument here that Flood needs to have more supervision shopping for the groceries than he does baking the cake.

Flood seems to do well with OTs but not with G/C. Maybe they just need an Assistant OL coach to help with the interior

This is what I have been thinking.  We have interior DL coaches and Edge coaches, why not interior OL coaches.  Coaching limits are gone, so maybe it could be a thing.  But I dont know shit about fuck, so it could be a terrible idea.

I think there's too much line coordination that requires a single authority to have different positional coaches (you can certainly add coaches for technique).

My other thought is that Cole Hudson, Conner Robertson, and probably DJ Campbell are what they are, for better or for worse (in other words, I don't think there's a lot of untapped aptitude that's there to bring out with more coaching).

I have zero clue, however, why Stroh and Neto appear unplayable.

Coordination makes sense to me. Not that they look too coordinated this year.

Relevant because San Jose St’s offensive line was better than ours when we played them. And it still did not meet the Spartan’s standards. Imagine if Flood is allowed to keep his job.

How did SJSU’s OL do against Ohio State? OU? Arkansas? TAMU?
One game is not an entire season.

Flood needs to get his shit together, but unless there is a clear upgrade available, we should stand pat.

Is our support staff generally in a good spot now? I’ve been out of recruiting and such due to some health issues, but with Kiffin heading to LSU would we want to try to get Billy Glasscock back? Just a name I recognized in some articles today.

The only person being thrown out there by folks who would know as being "definitely" out is Akina. Doesn't mean there won't be other changes, but anyone worried that Akina is coming back should stop worrying about it if they can pull themselves together.

Can't wait for people to mention Corey Raymond

Is Akina out because he is old and it was always going to be just a year, or because Sark has performance standards and is evaluating his staff and making hard decisions?

Akina was defacto fired almost as quickly as defensive coach great Larry MacDuff.  That ill conceived experiment in nostalgia cost us the Florida game and 4-5 touchdowns against Georgia. One of the most colossally fucking stupid hires in Texas history.

That’s a very weird set of rhetorical questions. For the entire season up until the Vanderbilt game, we had a bottom 10% offensive line in college football. That’s completely unacceptable at Texas. We recruited and evaluated our own roster poorly. Flood is the main reason (along with Akina) we are sitting at home during the playoffs. You have to fire Flood.

Just playing this out, but do you?  How do you know that Flood didn’t recommend grabbing lineman in the portal last winter and Sarkisian told him that money was getting devoted to DT?

I think if you want to fire Flood it also needs to be because the line got dominated by Georgia in 2024, performed poorly in the Sugarbowl versus Washington, and that was with a Lombardi award winner and other lineman with lots of experience/NFL prospects.  One might say that’s true of any top 5 vs top 5 match-up but it’s evident we aren’t matching the success Alabama’s offense had under Sarkisian and that was the standard presumably when you hired him.

In his favor, the line clearly improved between Florida and A&M.

lol wut. That’s not even remotely in his favor.  it took him 8 games to figure out who his best 5 was, not because of a bunch of individual development along the line.

That’s probably the biggest indictment on him. He had no fucking clue who his bets guys were and he tried 4 other options before he lucked into that lineup due to injury.

When I say in his favor, it's evidence that he's able to make adjustments that lead to improvement.

Again, I don't think we have visibility into what was going on in practice.  Why, for example, did it appear Stroh was working?  One of my biggest complaints about the $9.95 coterie is they don't seem to dig into these kinds of questions and I think it's partially because Flood is one of their best sources.

I'm not trying to defend Flood, I don't care who the coach is as long as they are pancaking defensive lineman and I have a suspicion that a good bit of the under-performance is unrelated to Flood's efficacy as a coach.

Whether or not Flood is back is a bit irrelevant to the premise of whether or not he actually did his job this year. The answer to that question is that he did not, and that is a belief held within Belmont and among its benefactors.

Flood was apparently challenged about using the portal to field his best 5 and he effectively said “my team is on the court (field)” and ended the discussion after last season. His loyalty was not rewarded and it cost Texas. He went late into this season calling Connor fucking Stroh one of his kind of guys. Solid work. That dude is walking and the portal is being used heavily this cycle and none of that is because Kyle Flood has done his job and deserves to continue to draw a salary from Texas.

It's just staggering mismanagement. I think we all had doubts about what we were going to be putting on the field, but it was more like "Well, I guess Flood and Sark know something we don't." Nope, evidently not.

Same exact deal at RB. "Well I guess Christian Clark must be looking like a Bijan clone in practice, and Baxter must look 100% of how he looked two years ago". Nope. What the fuck were these guys watching?

We have yet to field an elite OL since Flood came to Texas. Granted the last couple of years weren't an abomination like this year, they still folded like cheap tents when we played the elite teams. Flood should not get any benefit of the doubt at this point. He has had plenty of time to correct a lingering and worsening issue.

I get that Sark isn't going to give up play calling.  So maybe we have to force flood out solely to get a new OL coach/OC type that will actually help improve the run game in critical situations against quality opponents.

If it didn't happen with the 23 and 24 lines, comprised 100% of NFL players (it sounds weird, but Jake Majors and Hayden Conner are currently on NFL rosters, and DJ Campbell will be), then I don't think it's gonna happen here with Flood. Unless he stumbles into an OL somehow made up of nothing but Justin Blalocks.

Where did Sark stand on the issue? If Sark went to Flood and said we need to shore up the line in the portal and Flood played his full hand of cards to stand pat, then I'm not as upset with Sark. I'd heard they were kind of butting heads in the early part of the season but never heard what it was about. Either way, Flood has to go.

Guessing the same thing Abdul Carter was.  No time for doing their actual jobs.

LaAllan Clark is being mentioned on the LSU On3 board as an option at edge coach if Blake Baker goes to Tulane and takes LSU's current edge coach with him.

Okay, in what form? By moderators who might know something or just people wishing they had him?

That entire LSU situation is murky as hell right now. There were reports last night about them trying to hire Elijah Robinson but it is unclear if that would be to replace Kyle Williams (DTs) or Kevin Peoples (edges). Either or both of those guys could be headed to Tulane with their DC. Williams is only in his first year there but the players love him. Hoping he moves along to Tulane but he is an LSU grad so who knows. Probably depends on the replacement DC hire.

A poster who seems to have had intel in the past mentioned Clark's name for edge coach and Scottie Hazelton for DC.

Peoples followed Baker from Missouri to LSU so I think the thought is he would be going to Tulane with him too.

I think Williams was just a stopgap hire after Bo Davis left so late in hiring cycle. That seems to be who Elijah Robinson would be replacing.

Peoples being gone seems basically certain. Just not clear whether Williams will also be out. Could go along with Baker to Tulane or just be replaced by LSU anyway. I do know the players supposedly loved him and he was big in helping to keep Brown and Anderson on board during all the coaching chaos. /shrug
