Sadly, it appears that I order way more manhattans and martinis in public than either of you. I’ve ordered both from bartenders all over this country and they will ask for clarity or often just make a manhattan with bourbon. Most default a martini to vodka or ask which way as well. This really isn’t even a discussion. If you think I’m off on it, try ordering from different places than your frequent hangout.

I just ordered one last week at a place I've never been to in Phoenix and the bartender made sure to point out they didn't have rye and asked if a bourbon was okay.

But you probably do order more martinis than me,

The last time I ordered a drink stronger than beer or wine at a bar, Will Muschamp had just been hired as Florida's head football coach, and people were excited about the idea.

My sweet Lord. Reading the thread since the Muschamp hiring is borderline exhausting. Some of the hawtest takes on this recruiting board, ever, on here between pages 45 and 48. I was quoting posts at first and by the time I reached 20, I just deleted them all, said “fuck it” and made myself a rye manhattan.

If you can’t be excited by the Muschamp hire and all that that implies, wow. PK did really well, but he basically recused himself from having to be involved with talent evaluations and was regularly pining to get back to the west coast. Muschamp had agreed to take the DC role when Sarkisian was hired and helped handpick the staff. His wife stunned everyone and refused to agree to moving back to Austin. She loves Austin and returns several times a year to visit with friends and shop. She didn’t want to leave while the kids were in college. So Muschamp had to bow out. PK was a great back up, but Muschamp is who Sarkisian wanted from the jump.

Muschamp is hands on with talent evaluation, with all of the game planning, has deep knowledge of the Georgia nemesis, endless energy, and will never be a yes man. He will tell Sarkisian straight up when he thinks he’s fucking up. The guy used to eat Greg Davis alive, in front of Mack Brown.

You and I probably know some of the same people.

Another reason to be excited, Muschamp will absolutely offer his input on strength and conditioning. I think we are going to see a different approach this offseason.

For sure, but I’m not sure he will have an issue with our current program. The people I know in the S&C community seem to like Becton pretty well, and they run with the people who Muschamp used to like (Tom Moffitt disciples). Muschamp’s biggest issue with our strength program was the lack of accountability in the weight room. I don’t think that’s currently an issue, but I’m not as plugged in as I used to be.

I’ve always qualified my manhattan orders with rye and have only been called on the redundancy once, by the Alamo South Lamar bartender of all people. Just for grins I started saying “manhattan, please” and the conversation has to keep going with “well what do you want in it?” So it’s easier just to say rye manhattan and if they want me to be specific, I can be, but they usually figure out the rye on their own.

So in the end-of-season program audit, Sark has identified the defense as the failure of this team’s success and the area that needs drastic overhaul?

He might not exactly be the genius some labeled him as.

Or that’s not what happened at all. Hope this helps you.

true, but look at PK's results

DFEI:

25:13

24: 3

23: 6

22: 8

21: 47

3 top 10 defenses in the last 4 years, so it is a high bar for Muschamp to be a success. Sark is replacing one of the best DCs in the country. This is not like firing Akina.

Look, those are great numbers, but they're skewed. Look at the teams that we have beaten and the teams that have beaten us. Florida almost beat our asses by 2+ TD's until Sark  panicked, put in a true frosh T to replace Stroh, and our D couldn't even stop their dinged up QB, couldn't stop the run, and couldn't stop the pass...in week 5. Then we once again get blasted by Georgia by four scores. So in 2 years in conference, we have gotten body bagged by Georgia 3 times, FL was about to, though they might as well have since that's how smart our coaches are. It's a Georgia problem. PK cannot scheme well enough against Mike fucking Bobo, and Sark is getting his offense shoved into a locker. We blew leads against ASU in the peach bowl because we can't stop the run, we can't stop the pass which is why Clemson, a very bad Clemson team came back on us.

I like PK and am very happy he built the D back up, but he's hit a wall and can only do so much. Muschamp knows the entire league front to back, top to bottom. We'll be fine. We have the talent and the horses to win. If we can land a new OL coach all the better. Same with WR, because Jackson isn't teaching or developing shit. He's letting other teams develop so he can take credit for it (Golden, Bond, Mosley, Mitchell). Other than Wingo making a good catch, it's really hit or miss, and that's unacceptable for a true Soph former five-star who has heen playing since day 1. Moore? He's been there, but again, he barely catches. McCutcheon looks to be good, but how would we know since he only got one or two passes thrown to him every 3 games.

Yeah. There are some damn fine non-alcoholic beers nowadays, and there have always been great NA wines (aka high end grape juice), but everything I read about NA liquor is... they just seem gross.

Non alcoholic bourbon and spirits in general are to sweet I feel. It was so gross it helped me quit for a while. Healthy now so hopefully seen the last of those rough days.

Only with chicken fajitas.

I spent 2 years in college waiting tables at Pappasito’s. If you think for a second that just saying the word “fajitas” and that being that for the order is a thing, you are getting mocked and laughed at in the restaurant kitchen by your server and his/her friends after attempting it. I imagine you are a running gag for any server waiting on you, but this would add to it.

I had a guy insist one time on ordering only “fajitas” and he told me to educate myself when I asked for clarity. I got written up when he complained about initially receiving vegetable fajitas as his entree. It was worth it.

Oh right, I've been sick all week and wasn't sure if I had dreamed that or not. I actually Googled it and didn't see anything, but I did it gain and saw that he's in the portal. Why? Dude had the chance to absolutely wreck  shop in his final year. I thought he was happy here? I'm bummed now.

This is something to save. His evaluations at Texas were dog shit. He’s a relic that has Sark’s number.

If I recall, Muschamp was making some terrible LB evaluations towards the end of his tenure.  We need the scouting department to help with evaluations.  Muschamp was a hell of a recruiter back in the day.  Hopefully he still is, but we might want to double check who he wants to recruit.

aren't all proper manhattans made with rye anyway?

Yes.  Rye Manhattan is redundant.

3 hours ago, closetojumping said:

I’m not a cocktail snob, so my view is “no”. A regular bourbon manhattan is smoother. I like more of the bite but would never shun a well made bourbon manny.

Are you also of the opinion that martinis and gibsons can only be called such if they’re made with gin? Do you have a handlebar mustache that you wax daily, sir?

3 hours ago, JBJ said:

I'm no purist and think people can enjoy bourbon manhattans and vodka martinis.  But if you order a martini it will come with gin by default and if you order a manhattan it will come with rye by default.

I really don't give a shit. I'm just sayin' calling it a "rye manhattan" is redundant. I personally prefer bourbon manhattans as well. Never heard anyone call a manhattan made with rye anything other than a manhattan, so it just sounded weird to see someone write "rye manhattan."

3 hours ago, Rimbo said:

Yeah it'd be like saying "Gin martini." Or "Kahlua White Russian." Or "butter pound cake."

Or "good hire" when your HFC hires Will Muschamp as DC.

Just... redundant.

Check out Athletic Brewery.

Best day is way better (full line of ales and IPAs), corona and Heineken have good ones too, at this point from a taste standpoint there’s zero reason to drink a beer with alcohol in it. All the major breweries and many of the large craft breweries have legit NAs, and they should their survival depends on it.

sorry @Slacks

He’s said in the NIL era if you want to be coached up and learn how to play ball then come play for me, if not then go somewhere else.

At some point the money grab will even out and the programs that develop will have the upper hand.
