I have a theory that it’s because a lot of the players who were “friends” and etc all retired or not in playoffs at the moment.

Referees also call a completely different game in playoffs vs regular season. It is crazy how much more grabbing/pulling etc they are allowing.

Under the basket looks like when there are under water cameras at a water polo game, nothing but grabbing/pulling and shoves that would 100% be called during regular season.

If Bill Laimbeer is your measurement of great defenders from the 80s and 90s, then I understand your position

?

You listed the Pistons and I named a guy that played 30 mpg for both of those title teams that would struggle in today's game. And he was a good defender in that era.

You called out a player who was basically a role player in the scheme of that defense. There were three other players that were vital part of those Pistons teams that were on the NBA all defensive teams, in Mahorn, Rodman, & Dumars. Meanwhile three of the last four years the NBA MVP looks like an oversize fucking bartender And the namesake of this thread is doughy as fuck.

Pardon me for laughing at your assessment of defensive players, especially with regard to conditioning and whether they could play today or not

80's & 90's

I don’t think those really belong together.

Bill Lambier would get played off the floor in today's game. So would a bunch of the dudes that the Bulls ran out there around MJ and Pippen.

No. Lambier was pretty good and the rest of the starters on those two teams would be good in any era of the game. And never mind the pistons, as for the Bulls- you’re  saying Horace Grant, Bill Cartwright John Salley, Stacy King and Dennis fucking Rodman would get played off the court? Come on man.

The Pistons era crossed over from the 80s to the 90s. So did the Knicks. And so did the Bulls. Hell, the Rockets defensively were pretty damn salty during that time.

Re: the last few posts, I just had no idea that today's NBA was the golden era of the sport. Evidently a lot of other people have missed it as well.

Man, Giannis being available might have been an important piece of information to wait for for a defensive-minded GM who isn't a particularly big fan of his franchise player.

Wasn’t Milwaukee someone they reached out to and Milwaukee didn’t want to do a 1 for 1 trade? Though if they knew Giannis wanted out, maybe they listen. But then again, Luka probably wasn’t signing an extension with Milwaukee

#1 took Kyrie, AD, Lively, Gafford, PJ Washington and the Mavs losing the playin to happen. Might have been rigged once they lost the playin but at the time they were middle of the pack in the west and it was (and remains) the worst trade ever.

Not good enough for Nico. He’s gonna trade the pick for Joel Embiid. Nico knows best.

Best. Bench. Ever.

I was shocked and of course it was rigged. For the first time EVER in Dallas favor. A team that has never had the #1 pick, and has never even moved up in the lottery once in 17 tries.

Oh, and the Mavericks are NOT moving to Vegas.  You may not believe the "top 5 market shit" but what you will believe as that the owners would lose 20+ million in buy in fees bynot doing a new team, and letting them move.

It's not happening.

Counterpoint:

1) Seattle will get an expansion team before Vegas no matter what.

2) A post Mavs expansion team in Dallas would generate more fees than a Vegas team, and on a more convenient timeline.

The number of times the league has prevented teams from leaving cities that do not support a new arena is *zero.*
If the public won’t pony up for a new arena and the lege doesn’t get behind gambling so they can self-fund, they are gone.

I think Vegas gets a team first personally(even though Seattle SHOULD)

That's if they have them lined up...there is a groundswell for a Vegas team. They would have so many groups trying to buy in it would be silly.

The last point isn't worth it. If the Owners lose out on Casinos in Texas, they're more likely to sell out than try to move. They didn't get into the Mavs for the basketball, but as a catalyst for an all encompassing new Casino/entertainment market in North Texas. They don't need the Mavs for that in Vegas.

It just don't make sense.  And now with the draft, the interest will be back for the Mavs, right or wrong, so the chances are less IMO.

This is the part that hasn't made sense to me in the discussion. Why the league make more if the expansion was Vegas or if the Mavs move and the expansion is DFW?

Larger fee for an expansion team in DFW because it’s a bigger market, a better market, has richer people, and would be 5-6 years further out

Laker fan here.  No.  I’d give LeBron and Bronny for Flagg and Gafford

That's not enough...to take Bronny off your hands alone would require your best 1st round pick you can offer.  And throw in Reeves and it'll be close.

Honestly watch Dallas/Lakers do some deal with Gafford.  Not sure what the fuck Dallas could get back as Reeves or Luka, obviously, is all that's worth anything on that team now(lebron at 40 no thanks)

I'll stop thread hijacking after this, but his film won best drama and best editing at his film festival.  The crowd gasped at the final twist.  It was awesome.  AND, he was wearing a TX Manning jersey as one of the actors.

The worst part is the guy at the bottom is clearly better than everyone but the Top 2...and those top 2 guys are quite a bit older.

His fat ass can barely fit in the seat.

I for one, am very glad, I don't have to partake in the annual "he's taking his body seriously, and he looks skinny here!" discourse this offseason.

Bring me Flagg.

This is literally the "worst trade in history" thread in which MY team made the stupid trade. So yes I'm here...WTF?

And yes, I mentioned it at this one point, but I'm so happy not to have it flooding my social media and seeing people argue over it all summer.

Not sure what shit in your cereal this morning, but I wasn't it.
